    This fridge for the price is an disaster. Impossible to keep food in the fridge or freezer at safe food storage temperatures whatever the weather. The controls for temperature are a total failure. Either freezer is not cold enough or cabinet wants to freeze. This Dometic NRX is expensive rubbish. Dometic for service and repairs on this fridge are hopeless. No product support.

    You mentioned the remote temperature upgrade. Can you elaborate on the EXACT details of how to connect it? The sensor part number is (1319842A/9005004B). I have a Multicontroller HD and it is connected the 4pin plug with a red, brown and black wire. The other 4 pin plug has a red, white, blue and black wire. I have read that there is a resistor somewhere in the loom. Which of the two looms mentioned would that resistor be in? I have also read that one can cut two wires coming out of the main plug and connect the remote temperature sensor there as well. Can you comment on how to connect the webasto remote temperature sensor?

    In theory you can adjust the fuel pump for altitude by using a pump with a lower dosage. Then the frequency is high enough even at lower fuel amounts to avoid starvation of the flame. Newer heaters do it that way.

    • @VanlifeOutfitters
      @VanlifeOutfitters Před 24 dny

      Typically the charging output from the alternator should be 4/0 with the Nations 280 amp 12-volt kit. If it's short enough you can use 2/0. I would recommend checking out our blog post that has an example wiring diagram as well. www.vanlifeoutfitters.com/example-power-system-victron-energy-batteries-with-nations-alternator-and-wakespeed-regulator/

    Got mine. Installation was easy - great tank. For anyone intimidated by his (comedic) struggling with the rivnuts, there is a MUCH easier way. Do not try to compress them in one single go! That is way too hard because the handles are out parallel to the work surface and it is like trying to bend a 2x4 to push the handles together. Only screw the rivnut on so that the tool handles come maybe 4" inches apart. A quick squeeze and the handles can easily be pulled together. You repeat that maybe 3 times and on the last squeeze you'll see the rivnut is firmly mounted. Much easier. One other tidbit - after installing your rivnut, put in a bolt and try torquing it down to whatever you plan to do when installing the tank supports. If you can't get the bolt in, you've stripped the rivnut and will need to drill it out (7/8" bit) and put in a new one. If they tighten up and can be removed with no problem, great! But if you are tightening them and notice the rivnut starts to spin, stop immediately, remove the bolt, and tighten the rivnut with the tool some more. It must not spin at all. Doing this with each rivnut as you install it is WAY easier than getting the tank mostly mounted and then realizing you have a problem with a nut and it is now harder to fix with the tank in the way.

    • @VanlifeOutfitters
      @VanlifeOutfitters Před 28 dny

      Thanks! The only parts that are below the van to affect ground clearance is the fuel pump/fuel line which can be located inside the cavities under the rig so it really doesn't affect ground clearance at all.

    • @distractedmonkeydesign
      @distractedmonkeydesign Před 28 dny

      @@VanlifeOutfitters Thanks for the quick response! I was actually wondering about the clearance space required around the unit itself. Most RV furnaces and water heaters need some clearance space surrounding the unit left clear. I managed to find the installation manual online and found the unit requires minimum 1" clearance front and back. The manual doesn't list a side to side clearance requirement although there is some implied by the heater hose connections.

    • @VanlifeOutfitters
      @VanlifeOutfitters Před 28 dny

  • @12vLife

    Will this void the factory warranty on brand new Sprinter? Void insurance coverage? Also, I understand new vans come with an option for a beefier Alternator, would this not be cleaner/easier than a having a second dedicated alternator?

    • @VanlifeOutfitters
      @VanlifeOutfitters Před měsícem

      Regarding the warranty, we're not legal experts but the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act makes it illegal to "void" a warranty based on aftermarket parts or other modifications. If your modification actually causes a problem, that problem is excluded from warranty coverage, but it was always excluded--nothing is "voided". Vehicle alternators are not purpose designed for continuous high-output charging like secondary alternators from Nations or other similar options are. They typically cannot be externally regulated with something like the Wakespeed that can monitor multiple factors like temperature of the alternator, voltage, current, etc. Vehicle alternators don't have safety features like avalanche diodes. Plenty of our customers will use their stock or upgraded vehicle alternators instead of a dedicated, purpose-build secondary. The general recommendation is to limit charging from a vehicle alternator to less than 50% of it's output rating so that you don't overtax it - particularly at idle. In a lithium battery system that is typically done with DC-DC chargers. To get an equivalent 200+ amps of charging from DC-DC chargers would be pretty expensive and have it's own complications.

    @1Beetlegeuse Před 2 měsíci

    I'm in Australia so our domestic appliances are 240v not 1110vv but that makes little difference. IMO the only reason to choose 12v or 24v is to maintain the same native voltage of the vehicle in situations where your power draw is basic. Lights, tv, small fridge. If you have any desire to use domestic type equipment such as induction, electric frypans, kettles, toasters, microvwaves, AC etc skip 12 and 24 and go straight to 48v. Its not like it costs more but it does allow a huge amount of potential. Just turning on a kettle requires 160 odd amps at 12v vs 40amps at 48. Even if the cable was free the bigger stuff is just a pain to work with not to mention resistance plays a big part as far as cable lengths go at such low voltages as 12v. When you ditch the 12/24 volt camping style appliances/brands for proper 110v/240v domestic items you get a much larger range to choose from too. Those rpm figures on the alternator are for alternator speed not engine speed. They are geared via pulley size and run faster than engine RPM. They output heaps at engine idle. I'm pretty sure the Nations alternator does have diode protection but you'd use a Balmar APM for the extremely rare occation the BMS load dumps due to an individual cell low/high voltage alarm. 48v alternators also need an external regulater like a Wakespeed or Balmar unit. Long story short, be realistic about what you want to power now and in the future and build accordingly. 48v is infinitely more flexible than 12v

    Does the mark 2 have more compute( CPU and memory) than the original cerbo gx . The Ekrano GX has significantly better hardware than the original cerbo gx.

      According to the Victron Community post below, "CPU of the Cerbo GX remains the same, dual core. CPU of the Ekrano GX is upgraded to quad core." community.victronenergy.com/questions/245954/cerbo-gx-mk2-what-are-the-differences.html

      @@VanlifeOutfitters as the cerbo gx is 4 years old that probably suggest the CPU is 6 a years old design , quite impressive they can still find them that old considering a new generation every year or so due to technological advances
