    • @FusingShop
      @FusingShop Před měsícem

      Hi! Heat the glass slowly in a more propane rich flame until it starts to get some heat into it. The dramatic temperature shifts is what makes the glass crack. Also any twists, bends, or distortions can be stress points in the glass and cause cracking or shattering. Hope this helps! Sim

    I am 69 and have been using pipes since the 1970's and up until this month i learned about glass screen filters. I have problems with the wire screens falling out, but seeing the glass screens going down into the pipe bowl hole to keep it in, thats exactly what i need and i will be trying to find a spot that sells them. I wish i had my health back and was younger because i would have liked to get into working with the glass. I am not very artistic but i watch your video's and you make it look easy if your steps are followed.. wonder how much is the equipment that you need to get started with making the pipes and screens?? This was fun to watch and you explain everything wonderfully.. i will be looking out for your next videos. I need to go back and look up ones i have not seen.. great job..

    • @FusingShop
      @FusingShop Před 2 měsíci

      Hi Judy! Thanks so much for your comment. I like to pop my bowls so that you don't need to use a screen. The metal screens always made me uneasy for some reason. The glass screens work well but it's another thing to have to clean and keep track of. I like to throw some herbs in a pipe and be done lol. The equipment depends on what you're looking to make. The torch and kiln are the most expensive but a lot of times you can find used equipment and save some bucks. If you're not looking to go beyond 25 mm tubing, then a small torch would do nicely. Thank you for your kind comments about my videos. I've been trying extra hard to keep them concise but still get as much detail in as possible. So much to teach and give over. For goblets, I blow a bubble on the end of tubing and flame cut off where I want to form the rim. You can make the goblet and stem for whatever glass you want as long as it's the same type of glass. I use borosilicate in my shop which has a COE of 33. As long as the COE is the same, you're good to go. All the best! Sim

    dumb question two, why is it wrong to make those thin glass stringers...dangerous??

      Definitely dangerous. The thinner you pull the glass, the weaker it becomes. This often means it's so thin it snaps into micro fragments which can get into your lungs. Plus thin glass can give you nasty, painful splinters. Hope this helps. Sim
