You very good speaking moob
How come I've never heard of you until today.
She’s teaching the white dialect. The green dialect is harder for many Hmong speakers who didn’t grow up with it.
The sexy sounds are awesome ❤
Tsis txau tseeg
Funny how I just came across your video just now. Your Hmong is actually pretty good compared to most Hmong nowadays!
For a foreigner --- an ESL of the Hmong language, which is very tonal, with 8 tones, as you've demonstrated 4 here ---- your ability to shift the tones was quite good. Unfortunately, most Hmong these days are literally not educated (or not concerned) enough to speak and/or to write with the appropriate tonal grammar. I am horrified, for example, when I see on a daily basis Hmong writing "Kuv niam NKAWD" as "Kuv niam NKAWV." "Tod and "Tov" makes no difference for Hmong these days.... They would, for example, say "Nqa qhov mis TOD coj los TOV rau khob dej no rau tus menyuam haus" ... as .... "Nqa qhov mis TOV coj los TOV rau khob dej no rau tus menyuam haus" ... and NOT BE BOTHERED at all by the fact that the second sentence (the one they choose) MAKES NO SENSE... TOD and TOV, as you know, have totally different meanings and tones. But, again, Hmong these days don't really care.... about the differences... No one teaches Hmong to them formally; there are no grammarians in Hmong or in Hmong schools... so everyone speaks as nws wants and, so, the language is both dying AND deteriorating at the same time, before our very eyes... In any case... you seem pretty gifted in linguistics so perhaps you know this or, perhaps, you don't.... but Thai and Lao, for example, are the only two major languages I know that have completely done away with the word DRINK. Today, in both Lao and Thai, it's EAT: I want to EAT some eater. I want to EAT some rice. They have dropped the word DEUM (drink). And native speakers of neither Lao nor Thai blink an eye about that odd linguistic deletion. As far as I know, all other major languages have --- "still" employ ---- different terms for the word DRINK (for liquids) and the word EAT (for solid foods). French, English, German, Norwegian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, Cantonese, Koreans, Bantu, Swahili, Italian, etc..... that I could search in Google .... all deploy different words for EATING and DRINKING, except, again, Lao and Thai..... The good thing about linguistics is that THEY EVOLVE, true. But it is never easy, within one's own lifetime, to be a witness to the slow deterioration of a language.... from tone to word deletions...
Your tonality is pretty good. Hmoob yeej tsis nyuaj npaum lus suav.
Do you have a video of Hmong alphabet? I’m having such a hard time making the sounds come out of my mouth without sounding like I’m making fun …. I can’t make my words sound this way- I figured maybe starting with learning the alphabet might help?
Yes we do. Not all of the letters are edited and posted but here is what has been released so far: czcams.com/play/PLoUe6cI34OIt4tuon5G9wmGmXjFRF59Jb.html&si=zEn9Kvo7MTGFTU27
And here’s another series started about the breakdown of the alphabet: czcams.com/play/PLoUe6cI34OItvheJ91t1pl2zlX4BrrWnV.html&si=yscz-RrWq-uUW6qg
This language is difficult as fk. I have new hmong friends at work and I want to be able to talk to them in their language but I'm feeling discouraged. I don't know how to make the sounds come out of my mouth like that!
Maybe videos here might help: czcams.com/play/PLoUe6cI34OItvheJ91t1pl2zlX4BrrWnV.html&si=yscz-RrWq-uUW6qg

Great question. When we lived in Thailand, we spoke it daily, but being back in California and working full time again, I have to work much harder to create opportunities to speak it. :)

If anyone is struggling with the W. You can practice it by saying "ew"... like as if you're grossed out by something. The sound you're looking for is in the middle between the "e" and "w". Say it very slow and with the deepest exaggeration like as if it's the most disgusting thing you've ever seen.
Qhia ntawv hmoob hais lus meej kawg .zoo siab ntau ๆ nawd mog
Thanks. This helps gets me comfortable to at least start the conversations lol.
Great Teacher:)
I’m Hmong. Well done! And good job explaining the tones visually with your hands. I liked that.
Thank you! 😃
Mus easy to remember thinking of going or to go means one is moving .
Absolutely love your videos Sarah!!
Not bad for a non native speaker. I speak the language for my entire life and I must say you can speak the miaozu/hmong dawb language fairly well.
A hmong person here, I'm trying to learn the language because I realize that I can't talk in Hmong like I used to when I was little. It's a bit hard to communicate with my mom.
If I can do it I know anyone can. Don't give up. I totally understand. :)
