Nubian Records
United Kingdom
Registrace 4. 08. 2010
Nubian Records was set up in 1981 by Black Roots primarily to allow this Roots Reggae band to produce, record, release and license their music. The band originally formed the label after several major record companies had turned down approaches by them when they were seeking to get a major record deal during those early years. The first release on the label was Black Roots' limited edition 4 track 12" Demo Disc the year the label was set up. Since then almost everything that the band has recorded is owned by Nubian Records. The band and the label are one and the same and forms the buisness structure that they have set up to look after their interests.
Black Roots - Roots
Roots is the title track of the band’s new album. This song is all about origins and Black people’s origins began in Kemet. The title track ‘Roots’, emphasises this, which is why the album goes by this name. It speaks of Kemet, the original name for Egypt, a land of Black African people, that was first inhabited by the Kushites, now known as Nubians, 5,000 years ago. This fact is disputed but evidence puts Africans in Kemet building pyramids and thriving culturally, politically, and economically.
Kemet and Kush where two of the world's earliest documented civilizations. They were empires constructed and created by Black Africans. They were highly advanced, ancient black African civilizations that thrived for hundreds of years. The advances made by the rulers and people of these civilisations need to be recognised and celebrated today, because it is by overstanding your past that you can move forwards and overcome. Part of that process is acknowledging your ‘Roots’ and understanding who your ancestors are and the contributions they have made. Black people must take pride in the knowledge that so much that is taken for granted in the world today has root in Africa.

LYRICS
Long before light
Darkness was inside
Cannot turn back
To the time of create
Hearing such things
Out of the air
Falling out of grace
To our ancestor’s shame
Chorus
The leaves fade in the Earth
We are roots Kemet Roots
No branch only root
We a root
No branch
Ahya
Falsely waiting for the sky
The sky to open wide
Showering gifts
Of another man’s dream
When will we learn
Our ancestors are the grain
So don’t be lame
Grab hold of the rain
Chorus
The leaves fade in the Earth
We are roots Kemet Roots
No branch only root
We a root
No branch
Ahya
All our Ancestors out of the land of Kush
How did we end up in this place
First Dynasty 5300 years ago
5300 years ago
Unifying the land of Kush
The land of Kush
Chorus
The leaves fade in the Earth
We are roots Kemet Roots
No branch only root
We a root
No branch
Ahya
REPEAT Chorus
Guitar Solo
Long before light
Darkness was inside
