    Hey, late to the party here… Have you run the smuggler 140mm rear option? If so, how’d that go? Have you been on that smuggler still? Still love it long term? The frame price has dropped and I’m thinking of pulling the trigger. I’d run it 150/140mm front/rear with a 36 and try and get that downhill build popping. Thoughts??

    I have the old Optic and old Sight and just got the new Sight and my mind was blown. It rides like a much bigger bike but still poppy like it's supposed to be at that travel. Made me wonder what this Optic was like and sounds like it's the same. Should be a rad bike for bulk flow trail laps!

      On those I have the silver spacers from Raceface that are thicker then the SRAM black ones that are thinner. Use one of each.

  • @EMTBonsai
    @EMTBonsai Před měsícem

    There must be something wrong with my new bike, or it's set up incorrectly. It's so firm that it feels like a hardtail! I'm a heavier rider, and the shock that came on the eMTB had a 0.9 spacer in 160 mm of travel. However, I need 260 psi to get 30% sag, making it very stiff. I don't have much of a choice here until I shed some weight and start again. But honestly, I think I'll have to put in a smaller spacer since I'm only using 75% of the travel, according to the O-ring. I have heard the magic spacer for the float x is the 0.6 and up to 0.7 mo more mo less so this is my next move

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před měsícem

      Maybe try going to a little larger of a spacer with less PSI in the shock? That should help with small bump compliance but still give you bottom out support.

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před měsícem

      Honestly, it's been a long time since I have had this bike. But from what I remember on trail mode I would get about 4500-5k in elevation. I didn't pay much attention to miles because that changes so much with terrain. Seemed like elevation was more of an accurate thing to base how long it would last on

    A S-Works Stumpy 2023, top notch mounted at 50% sale or a SB120? The stumpy would be the half price of the SB120!! I am coming from a 2017 INTENSE ACV so I think I will not be disappointed both ways..but I could be poorer 😂

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před měsícem

      Dang that is tough! The Sb120 will climb better than the Stumpy for sure. They have some crazy deals on SB120's right now also though, have you seen any of those? What build of SB120? The 2023 SWORKS comes with XX1 AXS correct? Not XX Transmission? Overall the stumpy is more well rounded in case you need to ride a little bit of a tougher trail, it won't feel as overwhelmed. But the SB120 will climb faster and still be a blast to descend on!

    Coming from the Megatower I wanted to step down to more efficient pedaling bike like the Tallboy or the SB120 and heard the Tallboy wasn’t a good climber with disappointed me as a Santa Cruz fan that wanted one. But maybe those people were just referring to the V4 and seems the minor change to the V5 improves the climbing ? Would you still recommend the Tallboy ? I also see Competitive Cyclist has amazing deals on the SB120 right now. Can get an X01 AXS SB120 for 5999 whereas that same build would be thousands more on the Tallboy. However I’m willing to look at an S build and do some mods here and there over time. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks !!!

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před měsícem

      Hey! Both are awesome bikes, it all depends on how you have the bike built. I have this tallboy built up at about 27lbs right now and it climbs amazing. Yes you can put heavier wheels and tires on it and it climbs more like a 140mm trail bike but then it also descends like a bike in that category also. The SB120 will climb a little bit better, but descend a little worse. Not worse really in a bad way just as in the rear end doesn't feel as plush as the tallboy. It is amazing what SC has done with the TB for 120mm of rear travel. Yeti and SC are my two favorite brands. I think that SC has the better 120mm bike, and I think Yeti has the better Enduro bike. So my two bikes that I currently own are a Tallboy and SB160, if that helps at all.

IT's not liike the Atlas is shid , its not , i just find it TOO GRIPPY that i cannot reposition my foot once i step on . the vaults i feel you get grip when you want it , and very little grip when you dont want it the Tmac feels alright i did have once a pedal flip on me and nearly shinned me ....probably my lack of technique

    Nice reviews. A couple of thoughts on how you could improve your content. You clearly have a lot of experience on these bikes. It would be helpful if you would provide context on how you like to ride and your trails you are testing on. The next step to help your viewers is to describe which types of trails best suit each bike. Instead of just giving us numbers for climbing, descending, etc., how about describing what about these characteristics differentiated it from the other bikes on test. Also best to describe how you got along with the bike in terms of fit and components. If the fit or components weren’t to your liking or were setup exactly how you like it that will dramatically change your perspective on any bike. You’re going to hate any bike that feels too big or too small, brakes you aren’t comfortable with, uncomfortable saddle, bars too wide or too barrow, etc.

      @dialedmtb I'm running a Lyrik ultimate i have really enjoyed (its at 150mm right now). An axs x01 kit, wao - mullet convergence series. One up carbon bars, the alloy frame came with a vivid (pretty much the deciding factor to get the frame and the geo staying static between wheel sizes) building it has been rather pleasant. The routing had guide housings in, which was somewhat helpful. I've got a lot of tire on it right now which I may slim down. The bike will go with me to shuttle zones and winch and plummet trails. I'm hopeful it climbs better and is more capable then the status 140 I replaced. Pretty optimistic about that. I own hardtails and a carbon 120 trail bike ironically, that I still think this will compliment. I enjoy climbing so I'd like a bike that's comfortable at it and gives good traction. Descending I don't expect the shock and geo to feel overwhelming and I sku towards wheels on the ground tech with line choice. So I'm excited, might be perfect!

      Dang your bike is going to be rad! Yeah I like that they spec the bike with a vivid on it for the C2 Mullet and on the Frame only! Definitely will make it feel even deeper than mine does on the descent. You will have to update me and tell me how it rides for you!

      @dialedmtb shuttled yesterday just 2600 feet of descending and some climbing. Shattered some prs and didn't have the bike dialed at all. Rode today and did 2100 ft of elevation. It felt really comfortable and absolute sled downhill. Fantastic traction. Im mullet still and tipped the scales at 36lbs. Haha. Really planted in chunk, rear feels seemless and great when it grows on banked and flat corners. Had some slick drifting today on damp clay and it kept me upright.

    Gotta have black as a color option!

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před 4 měsíci

      Black always seems to rotate through about once per cycle of each frame generation. Or at least a really dark grey or something like that.

      @@dialedmtb my last three bikes have been black. I guess I’m just lucky.

    So TRP brakes are your preferred brakes? What rotor and pads do you like? Do you prefer 200mm rotors front and rear?

    • @dialedmtb
      @dialedmtb Před 4 měsíci

      So I actually like Magura MT7's better, just didn't have them on these bikes. The TRP's and Shimano 4 pistons are right behind the MT7's though. I would happily have any three of those on my bikes. For rotors, on my trail bike (120-130mm of travel) I run a 180 rear rotor and almost always a 203 front unless I am going for a lightweight short travel bike and am counting all the grams. For 140mm and up of rear travel I just go with 200 or 203 front and rear and be done with it. You can easily over hear a rear 180mm rear rotor on longer/steeper descents and once you do that the brakes never work as good until you replace the rotor.

    Pivot must have listened to you because for 2024, they did go slightly slacker in the head tube angle and steeper in the seat tube. Be interesting for you to review the updated 2024.

      I will most likely reach out to Pivot soon to see if they are interested in having me review the new bike. I just have a small injury and another bike showing up soon so if they do send it I want to be able to take full advantage of getting a good amount of time on it and not just a few rides. But yeah the new bike sounds awesome!! Exactly what I wanted out of it, it seems.

    Interesting that you compare its climbing capabilities to the sight. I dont see the point of having a short travel bike that pedals like a 140-150, and descends worse than a 140-150 bike.

      An aspect that is glossed over by most reviews is how well a bike pumps and generates speed in corners. Personally this is what separates a capable 125mm bike to a 150mm bike even if they may climb similarly. In short, rolling terrain is just plain more fun and faster on short travel bikes, even very capable ones like the optic.

      I would say it does perform better downhill then 140 and 150 bikes ive owned and ridden. It's definitely more playful and its ability to pump as mentioned above and stay planted and hold speed for shorter rear travel is unreal. Beyond summing that up to high pivot witchcraft. Its just incredibly well designed kinematic wise and geo for its use case. May not be for everyone but I'm riding shuttle zones and steep/tech trails with as much confidence as any bike I've ridden. With it being more engaging for not being a 170 travel bike.

    Looked really smooth through those rock gardens. Pretty impressive for a short travel bike.

      Yeah it was a lot smoother through those rocks than any other bike I have rode with 140mm of rear travel or less, pretty impressive for sure!

    I feel the opposite, the Crankbrothers being the most grippy due to the softer gum but also the less durable in long term. Five ten the less grippy but more durable and RC something in the middle. 8-10 months of very constant use of Crankbrothers and the sole is completely destroyed.

      Yeah, all of the shoes when they are brand new are pretty dang good. But yeah, honestly flat pedal shoes should get replaced more often than people think.

      Glad you appreciate that! It's surprising how many of these bike videos on here are paid off by the manufacture to make sure they are good. Also a reason why I wanted to do a series like this, where there are actual winners and losers (in my opinion).
