Having the building on pylons does free up the ground level, but I cannot resist feeling the enormous weight on top of me and again feeling like an ant crawling underneath a TV set.

I believe you will not be a famous architect unless your buildings, leak, are way over budget and have controversy.

Affordable housing has always and will always be terrible. Look at Pruitt Eigo in St Louis and Capridi Green in Chicago. And we still build them with the concept of shops on the ground floor. Half of the rentable spaces are vacant due to rental cost and most of the living units are used only part time. Putting a lot of people in one building for extended periods of time will never work.

My God! At last someone who is telling the truth about Le Corbusier! Yes, huge cost overruns, long delays in construction, poorly thought out designs that make easy maintainance and successful use of working and living space impossible, uncomfortable and difficult living spaces, dreary or scary corridors, misplacement of stairs and the universal use of ugly and deteriorating concrete all combine to show what a sham he was. And even today, snobs still say their emperor has the finest clothes that only truly refined people like themselves can see.

Le Corbusier did his mother and his wife dirty, too. He designed a lakeside house (which looked like nothing more than a white shoebox with his horizontal windows) for his elderly mother and the roof leaked endlessly. For his wife, he designed his own final home with her to be a cabin that was barely large enough to stand in, with tiny windows, and put his wife's bed inches from the toilet.

Ofcourse its made into the black salad project and thus its linked to racism... but there is larger problem here... There are two aspects to the project that need to be discussed. The first one, which is subjective, is the form and aesthetics of the building and the other aspect is the technical solutions to building performance and durability. On the aesthetic side, in my opinion, when you see the house in a pristine condition, I consider it truly beautiful. However, there are those who will not like it and I also think that's perfectly all right. What is completely unacceptable is the technical failures of the building. There must not have been a dedicated supervising project architect throughout the construction, working with the builder to ensure that the building was built correctly. Apparently, Le Corbusier was clueless as to how to build waterproof roofs, waterproof walls, waterproof terraces, how to locate and size drains to catch water runoff and how to design and build waterproof skylights and glazing. In the architectural profession, for good reason, water is known as the enemy of buildings. There is a whole science to the design and construction of buildings that in this case was clearly ignored. If the proper procedures are not followed, the client will end up with a pile of ruble regardless of the building's style or aesthetic merit. By the way, in the legal profession, there is a whole specialty of construction litigation, based on the well known fact that buildings fail.

Le Corbusier is right up there with Thomas Midgley Jr (chemist who put lead in petrol and invented CFCs) for contributing to making life measurably worse for the wider population.

Look at who lived there. That’s the common problem. They take care of nothing. If they couldn’t steal it, they’d destroy it. Same now.🙄
