Does this happen to you, too?? What other tips do you have WHEN (not if) it happens next?
Notice a difference after getting organized?? I guarantee you will! Let me know! 👍☺️
So true!! Gossipy people cannot be trusted!
I agree, Jean! You’re spot on. People think they are strengthening relationships by gossiping, but it does the exact opposite! Thanks for reaching out!
Have you ever overshared at the office, and it came back to bite you?? 😖
Its a disgusting red flag when a corporation thinks their employees need to bleed their values. They are peope who need to work for a living. Thier lives are their own.
Hear hear!! And I truly think that corporations are shifting towards valuing their employees' values more and more...but it's not fast enough. Thanks for the great comment, Tony! Had any direct experience with this? I'd love to hear if so.
So true
Yeah, it doesn't work too well for either side (employee and company) when employee actions don't align with company values. Had any direct experience with that??
Felt this at all?? It’s a harder one to conceptualize, but I think it’s definitely there.
Let’s hear your real-world examples of connivance! Don’t forget to use it in a sentence! 😅
BS
Ha! Do tell! I’d seriously love to hear your reasons as to why you don’t think this is the case. I LOVE hearing opposing opinions. 😄 Keep ‘em coming!
Do you use find yourself ALWAYS using these absolute terms?? 😜
😂 gets caught laughing when alone in a stock room, someone walks in "sorry im listening to an audio book" (doesn't even take the earphones out)
Haha! Sounds like this is coming from personal experience, Niomi?? 😅 Do tell! 😂
@allbusinessbasics 😂 it was a good book. Better script than any conversation that comes my way, so I committed to it 🤗
@@NiomiKing Awesome! Not much better than a good book that makes you laugh out loud. 🤣 And it sounds like you need to become acquainted with people who bring more lively conversation! 😂 But it’s true, a conversation has to be REALLY good to pass up a good book. 😄
@allbusinessbasics And if it has dragons in it. The person doesn't stand a chance 🤷♀️
Haha! 🤣
I would just say, "I'm sorry, I'm not interested in making conversation, i just want some quiet. Thank you." I have bad social anxiety and can't deal with strangers being chatty
I love that direct, honest, and KIND approach there, Lissa! Yeah, planes can be rough for those with social anxiety. Can I ask if you know what the root of that anxiety is?? No worries at all if asking tmi. 😄
Has this happened to you?? 😅 How did you handle it?
Any suggestions on good, inexpensive ways to celebrate team wins??
I totally agree. You never know what is going on in someones private life. It could be relationship issues, it could be diseases, it could be the kids, it could be economical issues and so on. If you struggle in your private life, it will eventually affect your professional life in some shape or form. If we can be open with colleagues (maybe easier said then done) about what is going on, it is much easier to give some slack and elbow room during though periods of life. At the end of the day we are all humans :-)
100% agree! While we shouldn’t moan and complain about our personal issues all day at work, they inevitably bleed over…and like you say, that’s okay! Let’s just all have empathy for each other and remember that there can be so much we don’t see. 😀👍👍
Don’t bring your personal life to work.
For sure! Easier said than done though, too. =-) My point here is to just not judge others when they may be "off" because there can sure be a LOT going on in their personal life that we have no idea. =-)
Ha! I love OW2, and Junkrat is my #1 played hero. Love your video. =-) Was that POTG you??
Remember that you don’t always know what’s going on behind the scenes! 😅
Does this happen to you?? It's frustrating! Any tips you'd share?
I agree. You have held "a few" presentations before, so nothing new. The preparations are hopefully done in the days before, so then it is basically business as usual and just doing whatever daily routines you are usually doing on any other day. :-)
You’ve got it! 😀 And even if it’s a truly BIG day for whatever reason, sticking to that morning routine is SO important for helping the day go well.
Are you struggling to stay up with how fast tech is moving right now?? You’re absolutely it alone if so…but it’s crucial that you do!
I used this this was bad 👎 😢
Do tell! What didn't work for you? Did you freeze during the interview? I'd love to help. =-) The output of not getting the job may not mean that you didn't do great in the interview. There are SO many factors at play with hiring someone.
The quote is apropo for this wall
Nice! Now, to take it a step further: which quote is this for which wall? Gotta make sure they align well. =-)
Can’t look forced, gotta be authentic!
Hear hear! Every time. 😀👍👍
Non authentic candidates will not do themself a favor if they should manage to fool anyone in the interview process. They must still function in their new job and manage whatever tasks their job description says they have to cover. Today you can order a fake Bachelor and Masters degree from a fake online university. The fake universities even have a secretary answering when people call them, a professional looking website and with the fake degrees they attach a list of word and expressions that they want you to rehearsal to make you look professional in discussions at work. What has the world become? Where I live, we have had a few scandals in the last few years where people got positions in top management and stayed in those jobs for many years before it was uncovered that they had no clue what they were doing.
Sheesh! No way! I’ve never heard of these scandals. That’s insane. So sad what people can get away with…especially in senior management…for years!! Crazy. But yes, it does you NO good to fake it through an interview to get a job you have to fake it through.
Useful video, thanks! My cat likes cuddles in the morning.
Hahaha! 🤣 Well said, and perfect use, Mark!
Me when my friends don't want to hear me rant about my favorite video games for the 100th time
Haha! Yeah, there’s a limit for sure. 😂
I. Don't. Care.
And that’s a stance, too! 😄
Thanks
You bet! Does it make a little more sense to you now??
Where you belong
Ha! Hi there, Vishal! I would LOVE to visit India one day!! 😀
I m from India
Hello
Hey hey!
I think presenting is a skill that everyone can learn, but it can't be forced. I was on a software presentation many years ago. I would guess it was 5-6 hundred people in the audience. All the companies had these slick guys in a suit that maneuvered through the PowerPoint slides and the sales presentation like a God ... and then it was this tiny software company with only three guys, and it was obvious that one of the (introvert) programmers had drawn the shortest straw, and he was sweating, shaking and looking very uncomfortable on stage. Their product itself looked like it was good, but the presentation of it was just awful. I don't think he was encouraged to do any more presentations based on that performance. If you have never done presentations before, it is probably a good idea to start small, maybe with a 5 minute presentation for a smaller audience, and then build your way upward as your presentation skills and confidence increases.
Aw, poor guy being thrown into the deep end! Hopefully that didn't completely crush him and that his company gave him smaller, more incremental chances, like you said. As always, thanks for your awesome comments and experiences, and sorry for the long delay on this one! =-)
@@allbusinessbasics : No problem at all. I enjoy your content 🙂
Ever had a super random moment like this where you learned presentation skills?? I was definitely NOT expecting it. =-)
Do you have a boss who forgets to build and lift you up?? They can be super difficult to deal with. Make sure you’re one who motivates AND encourages! 👊
Ask them how to spell it
Huh! That's an interesting one I haven't tried before! Does it work? Seems like it might be a bit out of place, but let me know! =-)
Being honest always works
Love this, Jason! I 100% agree! What do they say: "honesty is always the best policy" or something like that? =-)
Once my old primary school classmate said hi to me and we both remarked how we just found out we're in the same uni together after not seeing each other since we were probably 12 years old. She asked if I remembered her, which i did, but I only remembered her face and couldn't remember her name. So to go about that I gave her my phone and asked her to put name and number in it. It was a little embarrassing because she had a super common name but I joked about how I couldn't remember the spelling (which was also the common way). But it got me out of the awkward, "I don't remember your name" conversation 😂
Haha! Nice, Holly! That works, too! I feel SO bad when I forget someone's name that I REALLY should remember. =-)
Honestly, I pull a totally different thing this way I get the name & don’t look too awkward. I get my phone out & ask. How do I spell your name? I want to make sure it’s right in my phone . Or I just say. I know this is crazy but, I don’t know remember how to spell your name. It works every time & NO ONE has ever caught on. This way there’s nothing embarrassing about it.
Super interesting! Several people have commented on using the "how to spell your name" thing. I've never considered it, but if it works, it works! Thanks for sharing! =-)
i CONSTANTLY forget to ask peoples names when i meet them i have 3 responses for this depending on how bad of a screw up it would be for me to have forgotten their name. one of them is, if theyre still someone relatively new to me, is to just say "sorry, what was your name again?" even though i probably never asked to begin with. the second one, if i should definitely know this person by now, is to either have the conversation and then embarrassingly run up to someone else and go "do you know that persons name?" or if im okay with fessing up to it ill say "listen, i swear i remember YOU, but i have completely forgotten your name"
Hey, thanks so much for sharing each of those! Forgetting someone's name isn't something I've super focused on, but I love this methodical approach. Are you okay if I blend these into a new video soon?? I think they're great approaches. Thank you!
I usually just say, “Can you remind me of your name?” Often, I find out that they have forgotten my name by then too!
Haha! So true! I am always a fan of being straightforward and honest. And your saying that is like a pressure release valve for THEM too! =-) Thanks for sharing, Lauren!
Usually I just talk with them without saying their name.
That's definitely the safe approach! I find when I do that, I feel some...guilt? Like I'm trying to trick them? Not sure how to word it, but it doesn't quite sit right with me. =-) Thanks, Jack!!
I also try to make a joke around how bad my memory is to defuse the situation further.
Love it, Dmitry!! That’s a great tension or awkwardness diffuser. Thanks for sharing! 😀
In the short run you can probably compromise (with success) sleep, food and other basic needs that we all have. But in the long run you have to give the body what it needs. If not it will lead to health problems. Too little sleep and rest will also put a lot of unnecessary stress on you (as if work can't be stressful enough by itself). In short periods we can step up our game and work a lot of hours, but in general through the year, we need to find a healthy balance between work and private life. Neither you or your customers are helped by you burning your self out.
Yes and yes!! =-) I am SUCH a strong advocate of healthy work/life balance. The old-school mentality was to grind your employees into the ground to bleed every ounce of value you could from them. I love seeing a cultural shift away from that and more towards helping employees be well-rounded and have a balanced life. The continuing increases in parental leave are one example of that. Thanks, as always, for the awesome comments!! =-)
I agree on this. It is normal to have a mental discharge after preparing mentally for any event where it is expected that you should perform / deliver on a high level. This happens to athletes after a competition, and it is also happening in business (which very much is a competition with high stakes itself).
Totally! Really, ANY activity that takes full attention, focus, and energy could make us crash afterwards. Maybe it’s some sort of survival mechanism at play?? 😀 Our minds and bodies needing to recharge…
@@allbusinessbasics : I think that we are so focused on delivering something of good quality, that we are just going into that "zone". So when it really counts, you turn on this switch and give it your all. Afterwards you turn off the same switch and allow yourself to land mentally. First then, you may feel tired, exhausted, mentally empty and so on. It is basically just like a huge adrenaline dump. No more stakes ...
I usually say...Tell me who you are again. 😅
Haha! Careful not to offend with that one! 😂
Has this happened to you recently? It's SO awkward. The best thing you can do is to simply admit you forgot their name, ask for it politely, and keep moving forward in your conversation!
Well, if you should pull anything positive out of this experience, at least you gave her something to remember YOU for the last time you two met :-)
@@makingwaves1239 Haha! Very true! I've got her name LOCKED into my brain in case I see her at another conference five years down the road. 😆
Is this just me, or do others crash hard after giving presentations, too?? 😅
Good interview tips. Keep it simple and don't over analyze things :-)
Yes and yes! The more complex and canned the responses are, the more I question whether the candidate can think on her feet and break down the complex.
