Petrolblog: the cars you loved (and those you didn't).
You can expect updates on the fleet, which includes two Renault Safranes, a Renault Mégane Coupé, BMW E36 Compact, Citroën AX GT, Citroën Xsara VTS, Citroën ZX 16v, Peugeot 406 Coupé, BMW Compact (E36), Toyota Camry V6, Mercedes-Benz W123, Range Rover P38, VW Corrado VR6 and Isuzu D-Max. Oh, and the occasional goat.
The channel is put together on a shoestring budget - yes, it shows - so don't expect much in the way of quality. But if you like and subscribe, you'll encourage PB to buy more tat, do more videos and spout more waffle. Don't say you weren't warned.

FAIL: Why the free Safrane won't be at the Festival of the Unexceptional, but the Tatty Camry will
The free Renault Safrane decided to behave in a very French manner on the MOT test ramp, so it won't be going to the ball. Instead, the Tatty Camry will be representing Petrolblog at the Festival of the Unexceptional... again.

@1:47 WOW!!! Believe it or not, I also saw a Megane Classic driving into the Matford Park & Ride site in Exeter earlier today, X22CHH, in that deep metallic Cherry Red (similar shade to the Camry), with the sunroof slid fully open. Last MOT was in January on an unbelievable 251000 miles.
ooh, a little harsh on the plates - given what some people drive around with!
I loved the little Citroen LN, I have such a crush on them (especially a bi-cylindre)
And if you look closely behind the phase 1 Xsara at 1:23 there's a Laguna lurking 😍
Thanks for the update Gavin. Sad to hear the Safrane won't make it to the ball. I'm sure those going to FOTU will welcome the Camry. Look forward to further updates on the fleet. How is your son getting on with his Landy?
Ooo will have to get my 1st gen cv10 camry next to this tommorow ❤
If you need spare parts I have a whole safrane for sale
The Camry is a noble stand in - agree entirely on the reasons for no exemption for older vehicles having an annual MOT test, and you need a tartan rug for the accessories set.
The Safrane will endure. How about a T shirt that syas A Tad Tatty Tat?
Gutted☹️ I know you will win and another Safrane will return to the road. Unfortunately I won't be going to FoTU, I have caught the wonderful cold/COVID/ flu virus 😡 keep all of informed on the progress. The Camry is still a beautiful car, it's age related patina and how a car should look after 20+ years 😁
As the former owner of the car I can provide some background of it’s history. I was the third owner, I bought it when it was 3 years old and had 30,000 miles on it, the car was my daily driver from 2003 to 2018 until I swapped it for a Jaguar F Type. The car was always looked after with no expense spared when I was using it daily, always had regular services firstly with the main dealer then I would do the services myself, but always using the best oils and fluids, the gearbox oil was changed every year along with the engine oil. I always put Michelin tyres on and the brakes were always serviced, even cleaning behind the stainless steel runners that the front brake pads slide on to stop them squealing. I did have a bump in the car when I had only had it for a year going in the back of a car that slammed on at a roundabout when no cars were coming (scammers 😢) the repair was done by the Peugeot main dealer along with a scuff on the rear bumper, both these areas are where the lacquer has failed. The various bumper cracks were done by other people dinging it in car parks. In the 15 years I was using it daily the car only broke down once with a clutch failure, this was replaced at about 80,000 miles. It had 3 new cam belts and idler pulley kits during my time but is probably due for a replacement now due to it having been sat for so long. Don’t want to be a snitch, but the gearnob was in one piece before Kenny got in the car 😅. All in all I loved owning that car and was very sad to see it go, it was just one job more than I need at the moment having a 1976 Jaguar XJ Coupe restoration project in the garage, hope you get it back to it’s best and the paint work looking like new.
Also, never had an engine management light on during my time with it but the seat belt light can be easily resolved by moving the seats all the way back, unplugging the connectors under the seat and spraying some electrical contact cleaner in them. Make sure you disconnect the battery first though. Another electrical fault is the ignition coils, if one goes bad you don’t really feel it as a lumpy engine but the mileage range on the digital display in the center console goes up to read thousands of miles range.
Love the Xsara. Had a phase 1 brand new in 1998 then a phase 2 VTS (which didn’t look as nice at the phase 1). They replaced the BX 16 valve I had previous to that.
Ooh, envious of you buying one new. Obviously loved it enough to buy another one.
My older brother worked at Citroen UK in Slough in the early 90’s in replacement parts so we all had Citroens. I had a Visa as my first car, then an 89 BXTGD estate, 2 ZX 1.4 Elations (both new, wrote the first one off!), a 97 phase 1 Saxo VTR (new) in phoenix bronze, a ZX Aura TD, then the BX 16 valve and the 2 Xsaras, then a new 2005 C4 VTS coupe HDi, then an 18 month old C6 V6 HDi exclusive, then a C5 HDi V6, then 2 DS5’s.
It’s a pity he doesn’t have the time for full time at this. His content is mega. Well done.
Your comment has made my day. Thank you.
@@Petrolblog have you ever thought of doing a podcast?
A couple of times, yes, probably under the banner of Petrolpod. But then I remember that treatments for insomnia are available on prescription.
@@Petrolblog it would be worthwhile. There is no podcast that looks at proper German alternatives. Imagine a discussion on the best non German executive car of the 90s, history of French hot hatches, cult cars like 104ZS etc. It would be mega. I’m interested in starting one myself. Not great on tech unfortunately.
Nice goats. I hope that's an acceptable use of the word nice.
My old English teacher would be spitting feathers, but I think it’s totally acceptable.
@@Petrolblog Nice. Oh buggerr. Sorry
Sat in one of these at 1995 British motor show, waned one ever since.
Do it. They’re brilliant cars.
oh, I've recently bought a XV30 2004 Camry XLE V6, and now dealing with the same small-ish issues of a car that was poorly maintained in the last years.. where I live they were also imported from Japan. he works fine, but small things piled up
Congratulations! A fine car. Good luck getting the small jobs sorted.
@@Petrolblog thank you! it's nothing very serious, he has some 60k miles only on the clock, had to put new tires (had plenty of rubber but were from 2016), the rear brake pads were the original ones still (were on the metal already, of course), change both knock sensors that were switching off the o/d, had to do a full gearbox service, engine service.. those things...
Goats AND props - this channel gets better and better!
Heh. The goats were for you, Joe! 🐐
Just look at that Chamade. Be still my beating heart.
Couldn’t believe it. The bloody thing made my morning! It’s getting harder to spot proper tat in France, but I’m very tempted to buy a LHD Chamade.
Now it looks almost as nice as your 406 coupe 😉😉
Haha. It’ll never be *that* nice…
We’re crossing fingers and toes that the Safrane makes through the MOT… I hope to see it on Saturday, or at least you and the Camry!
Thank you. Fingers, toes and baguettes crossed.
Looks good with the wheel trims back on. The gas struts are aftermarket. Hope it gets an MOT and will be another one back on the road. I so badly want your gold Safrane.
Thank you, John. Yes, definitely tidier with the trims in place. Hope the MOT tester takes pity on the old girl.
@@Petrolblog Seem to remember I had the issue with the wipers on my Safrane and changed the stalk which fixed it. Don't think I salvaged the stalk when I broke the car unfortunately. Just sent my old front indicators to a chap in Southampton who has just bought a Safrane and had a broken lens. Hoping they will help him get that one back on the road when he MOTS it. I miss my Safrane a lot. My daily driver for 18 years and it was the best car I've ever owned overall. Brilliant cars.
@johnfolly1988 A good Safrane is a great car. Glad you’ve helped the chap in Southampton - thanks for helping to keep another Safrane on the road.

That numberplate is using an earlier font but still official, don't think it'll be homemade some motor factors did it
Good to hear. Surprised the plates have no markings, but they're very much part of the car's charm.
the engine sounds healthy and everything seems to work.. quite an quirky configuration, with leather, sunroof, climate control and auto box, but steelies and crank rear windows. should be a lovely daily
Yeah, the 2.0 Executive was an odd spec. I ought to do a very niche video on the phase 2 trim levels in the UK.
It’s in full Parisian spec with scuffs, missing trim and hubcaps. Love it.
It’s in full Parisian spec with scuffs, missing trim and hubcaps. Love it.
Double comment?!
Or my memory issues are becoming more public.
Keep the steelies .They are a rare sight now.
I worked at a Renault dealership in the 90's. The Safrane did not sell very well .
A complete flop in the UK. Out of interest, was it a good conversion rate? In other words, when people came into the showroom to look at a Safrane, did they end up buying one?
Had two of these both 2.0ltrs The most comfortable car i have had and alot of room in the back
Yeah, although the 2.5 has the sweeter engine, the 2.0 offers a more relaxed driving experience.
If it’s not the 3.0 Bi Turbo you are better off with a Laguna✅
Ha. You may have a point!
Priest hole! Every car should have one.
Extra ventilation for when the air con fails...
I like the colour of this one. Does it have an air attack man checking stuff like the others?
Afraid not. I guess that means there's less to go wrong. And ignorance is bliss in a French car...
Its beautiful even before you have fixed it up. Do put the side protection strip back on if you can.
You should see it after the first wash - it's gleaming. And, yes, the plastic panel will be reattached!
That 5:57 hit hard, wasn't expecting that plot twist!
I haven't checked, but I'm guessing that's the hole in the boot?!
@@Petrolblog Yeah and I just realized that I missed the opportunity to say that I wasn't expecting that plot "hole"! 🥶
Keep the plastic wheel trims! Many moons ago I had an MG Montego EFi in white, which had matching white wheel trims. Picture available upon request. The thing cost £150, and came with a tax disc from a Volvo. Ah well… the policeman was understanding enough. How does one become a channel member? I looked for a link but didn’t see. (I am using an iPad, that may have something to do with it.)
Ha. The good old days. Wheel trims on a performance saloon would be very odd in the modern era. There should be a 'Join' button below the video, but I'm still getting to grips with things!
Lovely car. Hope to see you at FOTU
Thank you. And yes, see you there (touch wood).
Great purchase! Will you be at Rustival 2?
Good question. Might be a good idea!
One thing that I find fascinating about cars you get in uk is how easy it is for you to get a sunroof :D I literally had to buy 3 safranes to finally stumble upon a manual converted V6 car thats beyond rotten, but has perfect condition sunroof :D So thats going into the T5 project eventually.
Always nice to see a Safrane. Strange the 2.5 Exec that I reviewed had AC that wasn't working at its best. It's hard to believe there was a time where a desirable luxury barge could get away with wheel trims and manual rear windows. Last year I was parked a row in front of you at FOTU with my Mega w but sadly didn't cross your path.
Yeah, it’s a very odd spec. Imagine sticking wheel trims on a large executive car sold new in 2024. Hopefully our paths will cross at FOTU.
Press the Sunshine button on the climate control - it adjusts the settings to send more cold air through the centre vents to combat the heat of the sun through glass. It's the best system I've had in any car.
It’s so impressive. Finally I get to experience the Safrane’s amazing air con!
Had my safrane for 17 fantastic years and never knew what the sunshine button was for. Miss that car.
