Thank you. I would have just looked to see if it floated.
I am wanting to use your service but can not seem to reach your website to access the DIY broker module
Hi Larry. They stopped a few years ago unfortunately. Probably a good idea that came too early. Perhaps one day 😁
@@notarieelbetalen3353 thanks for responding. I guess I will study the one video they left up and see if I can put together something that will work for me. I really do not see the need for a broker and after having a bad experience with one that did nothing and still wanted to get paid I will definitely not use one. Besides my price range does not really make it worth their time.
my tip for buying a boat. buy a kayak.

#1 thing to know. Take even a reputable yacht surveyer assessment with a 'grain of salt'. If you have a second (2) survey, you be utterly surprised at the difference. What they collaborate on is a good thing... kinda.
Bouwe Bekking?
Yes. This video has been made years ago. Bouwe really knows his stuff.
Interesting. OK, no brokerage fees, but you still have the cost of advertising and your own time managing the advertising and sale. No protection as you would have by using a bona fide professional yacht broker with Professional Indemnity insurance. Who expertly negotiates any price reduction or manages any work required following any defects found at survey? Presumably there is a cost to use your system? If so, how much? Why isn't the website operational? That in itself concerns me and indicates that this might have been a great idea in theory, but there is little or no take up. I suppose using a professional yacht brokerage service has developed to what it is today, and is used by most people selling and buying boats, for a very good reason.
What about inspection of rig and sails?
@1:37, I subscribed
Hi, it’s a fantastic video and informative for yachts that anyone can buy. For more information You can check the link 2yachts.com 2yachts.com/charter 2yachts.com/sale
I have seen more thorough inspections made by children buying bicycles. Just get a survey, it's worth the money if you are here looking for what to inspect.
Hi dear do you need help getting a boat?
Great video ,many thanks
Dude, you forgot to check that the engine cooling water was going out the exhaust. If not that could be indicative of all kinds of problems such as with the raw water pump, cooling manifold, exhaust elbow, etc. it only takes a second to peek over the transom. It’s no guarantee that everything is working (the impeller could still be worn and need replacing) but at least it’s a good first order check for a quickie inspection like this.
Whats VOR Bauwe Bekking doing here. New job as a Yachts salesman :) ?
Dealing with the owner, you can examine all of these things, but most brokers I've encountered expect you to simply leave inspection to a marine surveyor. They'll just briefly show you around and then move on to another client and another boat, busy chasing their percentages.
Jammer dat het zo'n afgezaagd programma is geworden. Mis de Vivian power en Epco😉
If it flies, floats or fucks; rent it. it's cheaper
You forgot a very important part, safety! When you DIY you must take the boat out yourself with the buyer & this could be a very dangerous situation if the supposedly buyer is a scam. Last story I heard, a husband & wife who took some people out on their boat for a test ride to purchase, got out to sea & the supposed buyers pulled a gun, took the keys, tied them both up & threw them both overboard to steal their nice boat they were selling, they both died. Just saying, please, be very, very cautious when taking your boat out to sea with a total stranger on board.
Definitely. Always have a surveyor and don’t do that yourself. That’s where expertise comes in.
nice vid!
Great brief over-view. I'd like to know who makes your jacket?
Thanks Gregor Miller. The jacket is by Magic Marine.
Charter for a month before you even think of this life.
SassyHershsey SassyHershey Sage advice!!
..or join a local yacht club and get involved. Once people get to know you, you'll have all kinds of opportunities to go experience the life before (or in place of) making a big financial commitment. I wish I had known how easy it is to get involved, and how affordable this can be decades ago. I spend about $3000/year total, including all the sailing I want and food and drinks at the yacht club. It's cheaper than golf, and an activity the family can enjoy.
@@eventhisidistaken, that's excellent advice--thanks for the tip!
Worn anodes does mean there is 'problem with the hull', it means they are working! you would need to determine the age of the anode to determine if they are wearing excessively quickly - thats a sure way to put a buyer off for no reason at all!

LOTS of erroneous advice out there by well meaning but inexperienced youtubers on boat assessment. Bouwe, you've done a good thing here. Thanks you sir.

Thanks vey much. Info.
Am I seeing things or is this Bouwe Bekking?!?!
That is Bouwe Bekking alright. He is one of the founders of DIY Yacht Broker and obviously knows a thing or two about boats. He has done several of these videos.
yes it is and is doing well in the volvo ocean race
These are just the things he wants in a boat. Boats are all about sweat equity or money. My meager experience is roughly 20,000 miles on a boat I paid around $12000 but invested my time and money into. Projects have huge payoffs -Openseaphotography
Hi dear do you need help getting a new boat?
Want to know what makes the sales module so unique and how it actually works? Watch this short compilation and decide for yourself whether you still need an expensive yacht broker.
Buy boat...use it one tenth as much as you expected to. spend piles of money on upgrades and repairs...sell boat for huge loss.
Hi dear do you need help getting a good boat for an affordable price
Great info
Tip #1 - Do not buy a boat.
+de0xyrib0se Indeed, have a boring life and stay forever in the same place with the same people... Now ofcourse this statement isn't fair, you can have a great life on shore, but your statement is at least as unfair.
+berwwtje the discussion is about buying a boat. You can simply charter boats. There is absolutely no reason to buy a money-pit. Boats sit unused over 95% of the time, no need to explain the cost-vs-benefit here, there is none! This is also the reason ownership in the US has been declining over the past 10 years. As for how boring your life is, there is no boat in the world that will change that. You are either adventurous type of person and can meet new people and explore places or you are not. Water, air, land...how you travel is irrelevant, buying a boat has nothing to do with this.
de0xyrib0se "As for how boring your life is, there is no boat in the world that will change that. You are either adventurous type of person and can meet new people and explore places or you are not." I almost fully agree with this, that's why I didn't leave the comment as is. And ye, a lot of people own a boat and let it rot... And then there are the people who live about every day of their life on their boat and enjoy this way of living to the fullest amount. A boat can open up whole new worlds for certain people. They travel to places for comparably very low cost and generally enjoy the experience. You forgo these people with your statement. And your followup plays into my hand, since adventurous people will use their ship to the fullest potential.
+berwwtje you are coming from the standpoint of someone buying a boat and traveling the world with it. 99.9% of boaters will not do that. The average person can use the money they would spend on boat maintenance alone to visit new places (in very good comfort) every year, charter a boat and explore as much as they wish. Boating is not about saving money. It is about experiencing boating. Even sailboats require fuel, water, provisions and etc. Although boats are on the water they do not run on water. Traveling by boat is a great way to explore the world. However, given the fact people that travel the world are exceptions buying a boat is not cost effective for the experience 99.9% of people will get out of it. There are 13 million registered boats in the US (alone!), guess how many of those are being used to travel the world or as live-aboards? Again, my opinion is to charter.
de0xyrib0se Well, I think 99.9% is a bit of a stretch but I will agree a majority of boats is left to rot. So the conclusion of our banter is to think long and hard before buying a boat. If sailing the world and/or living aboard is your intention, go ahead! If it's for sporadic use, hobby and relaxation, consider other options that probably are cheaper.
find a dumb friend with a boat
I love how a Volvo Ocean Race skipper is doing boat reviews.
Hi dear do you need help getting a boat?
For some people that still is true, but in practice we experience a growing demand for our DIY model. Supply and demand find each other online more and more. Also for international deals. Our sales module is pretty extensive in that respect. You are right about the emotional part during negotiations, but since we cut out the broker's commission most people find it easier to close a deal because there is much more room to negotiate a price. Users can also acquire a professional technical survey.
really thorough and well made video, thanks!
"Thorough"?!!! He didn't touch on critical things . . . inspecting the bottom of the keel for evidence of groundings, the state of the rigging including the all important chain plates . . .
Well no, the broker doesn't give any guaranty. He sets the price (or commission) and decided whether to inform or not the owner. A sale can be lost because of brokers attitude. Major brokerage might decide not to follow an offer because income isn't worth the job... So yes, with a competent and motivated broker it can help, but ....
That is your opinion Olivier. You haven't seen the sales module, so you have no foundation for what you are saying. Not everybody will choose our website, but I believe many will. Independent research among boat owners shows 86% of them don't want to use a broker anymore. The market will decide for itself. If you think the traditional way is the best way you should stick to that. We make a different choice and we make that choice based on extensive research and a very solid online sales module.
It's very dangerous this new web !!! With a broker, you have a guarantie !!!! You don't to do it yourself a yacht broker !!!! Best regard Olivier barcelonayachting
extra: for secondary water cooling circuits for engines, check exit water+exhaust flow. There is a problem if there is no water or if there is black smoke, blue smoke or continuous white smoke. a clear to-the-point video from Mr. Bekking.
