I'm a light duty auto tech in BC, Canada. I'm at a very busy, small independent repair shop. I specialize in electrical and diagnosis and the owner specializes in automatic transmissions but we see a bit of everything through the shop. Jobs big and small, cars foreign and domestic.
It is just the two of us. I've worked at big shops before and I miss the people but I definitely don't miss working at a big shop... So I'm on here to share my experiences. Hopefully I can help out some folks out or maybe make someone chuckle from time to time. I experience a lot of goofy, neat and "insightful" stuff at work regularly so I'll try to publish videos often.
Please like, subscribe and comment. I'll try to read and respond as much as possible. Check me out on my other socials. If you want to get in touch then definitely drop me a line on Facebook.
Thanks for stopping by!

Hyundai Elantra broken outer tie rod end. Easy fix when working on the ground!

Hyundai Elantra towed in with a broken outer tie rod end. Very easy repair up in the air on a hoist but can be tricky to do on the ground. In this case I felt it was more effort than it was worth trying to get the vehicle in a position where I could lift it on the hoist so I just did it on the ground. But how do you hold the inner tie rod end so you can loosen the jam nut and remove the outer t...

zhlédnutí 799Před 10 měsíci
Most of the time squeals are caused by bad pulley bearings and faulty tensioners. Tensioner assemblies themselves do go bad and not just their pullies. Sometimes they get sticky. This prevents them from applying proper tension at times. Sometimes they develop play. This causes the tensioner arm to walk in and out as it articulates back and forth. However, sometimes belt squeals are caused by pu...

At least the front lca bolt isn’t stuffed behind the oil pan anymore like the Prius or the tc lol. I had to do the sub frame bolt and remove a motor mount just to get barely enough clearance. One of the most challenging control arms I’ve come across yet.
Another guy in youtube remove the control arm in 5 minutes. go search it
All you have to do is remove that mount on the right side, use a jack and it comes right out...
what does hitting it with a hammer do?
@bumblbesss It's a trick for any DC electric motor. DC motors are comprised of a bunch of electric coils that each create magnetic fields that actually move the motor. So if one of those coils burn out and the motor happens to stop on that burnt out segment then the motor will not spin. Give it a whack with a hammer and sometimes you can jostle it to a new segment that does work. Then the motor can spin. This can work for fuel pumps, blower motors, etc. You just have to be careful with starter motors because they'll be lined with strong permanent magnets that are fragile. So if you hit it too hard you can damage the starter.
@@eurbanautotech i thought they would get rusty stuck and the hit loosened them up lol. thx for the detailed answer !!!
Great video thanks 😊
Engine capacity ???
This video is painful to watch. I dont really care about YOUR diagnostics. Just get to the dang fix already!
How about high beams work, low beams do not. Fuse? Maybe?
@grumerguy Most often that's just a case of the low beams burned out. They're on much more than high beams so they burn out faster. If you're in a city then you usually don't notice when the first low beam burns out. Then the second one burns out and it seems like they both went at the same time. If you pop a new bulb in and they're still out then definitely a fuse is the first place to check.
Seems to be a common problem with these cars, bad enough to warrant a recall on the ignition coils
My ignitions coils keep going bad
You fixed mine! Thanks so much for the video
Thanks for the heads up I have the cheap bearings and will test my patience
Good video, I bench tested a starter and it seemed to work fine, put it on the car and it would spin, sometimes the bendix would jump out but still wouldn't engage the flywheel properly. I've gone ahead and ordered a new starter
Starter relay switch
The crop of engineers for later models are like gen x'rs here. On the V6 Venza the intake manifold AND wiper cowl have to come out to c/o the rear spark plugs!Totally f'd up.
Thank you for your tutorial on the troubleshooting. Have an issue with P0303 on the same car model 17 Elantra SE 2L. I bought the car used with an odometer at ~62k miles back in January 2023 for my son to drive. Two weeks later after the purchase, the engine light came up and the code was P0303. I called the car shop that the previous owner was using and found out that he brought the car for the same reason at 55k miles and the tech replaced 4 spark plugs (Denso 3461) & one coil (Import Direct 230578). After checking spark plugs and coils (all clean no issues), I tried to switch coils btw 3 & 1 but there was still same issue - engine shaking and code present (after reset). As the last attempt I checked the cabin and engine filters. These were dirty beyond believe. Apparently, the previous owner drove almost 6 years w/out changing these once. Okay. So I replaced both and the engine code gone. Little victory. Yesterday and 23k miles later my son calls me about engine shaking and we got the same code P0303. I replaced the third coil with Delphi ignition coil bought at Walmart. The code is gone and I showed my sone how to do it. a) Should I replace the other 3 coils or should I give him spares since he goes to AL in about 3 weeks? b) I suspect I'm gonna get a call on this again. Should I replace ECU ? The new OEM ECU is around $500. Not sure if replacing ECU is something I can try. I have Autel MaxiAP AP200 OBD2 Scanner Bluetooth Wireless tool for this car. Would you recommend replacing ECU if the code comes up again or should we bring this car to the dealership for reprogramming? Not sure how much they charge on that.
You need to use a TDC whistle or a finger on the spark plug hole on these engines to get to compression stroke. THEN look at your timing marks at the timing cover & harmonic balancer.
I cut mine out with a zip wheel the T bracket thing that goes through the tire wheel dropped and i installed a new hoist they don’t cost much and they don’t have that hook thing.
Quick little tip helped a lot, thanks!
Thank you , what was this part called?
What if one of the cams ain’t lining up and the other two are I keep getting it close
Just though of something that could help , the clip is what's frozen right? So, if you carefully drill the flange and install a grease zirt you can pump grease into the stuck area and push out any rust and dirt that's holding you up right? Of course you would of course verify the diameter of the zirt first to determine what drill bit to use and probably use an angle air drill to do this .
This is what happens when they are improperly installed, mopar says always liberally grease the inside and outside splines both where the shaft goes through the wheelbearing and where it clips on the stubshaft with waterproof grease or moly grease to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the retaining clip area. But most folks get in a hurry and just slam em in not thinking about stuff like that, then guess who has to fix it properly, ME ! THATS WHO😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂 took me 3.5 hrs to do both sides. Can't believe people pay that. It's ridiculous
This is an awesome video. I hate that I had to replace the rear main seal twice in the vehicle before I found this out lol
You could have gotten to the purple relay from prying AC outlet on the left would have given you a top view
Yeah the 09 - 13 corolla's are super fun. I loosened the engine mount a little, not all the way, on the passenger side and raised the engine with a hoise about an inch and was able to slide the control arm bolt out beneath the bottom of the oil pan. Haha dont ask about the drivers side. -.- good video though.
10 hours really
I sent my heads off to the machine shop and when they came back the timing mark on the driver side won’t line up I try to turn it and when I get close to where it’s supposed to be it spines it’s self past it
Not the marks on the belts but the mark on the pully
Definitely more work than expected but i did one side in an hour and some change in the driveway on my sisters solara. That estimated time is waaay off😂. It is not THAT difficult c'mon, I'm only 21 and I don't have any of those fancy tools like a lift. Remove the 3 motor mount bolts, jack up the motor, remove the old control arm, slip in the new one and boom, lower the engine down.
Too bad you posted this video one year ago. There might be an open recall for the can blower switch. Had one on ours after we had paid to replace it. Didn't get a refund and they still replaced it again and told me if the dealer had done the job we could get our money back.
Have disconneced the module, will the battery need replaced as I have been jumping it for around a year now?
Can you use a regular hammer if you dont have the air hammer im having this rusted pump issue with my truck right now
226k same here
Great multimeter diagnostic tips.

Oh, I have an infinity fx35 with 210,000 on it, it smokes a lot when you first start it up for the day but then dissipates, but it's been doing that for a couple years now, still going! Timing chain slap bad as well, that worries more than the smoking. I just wonder and can't seem to find any info but will the nissan fx50 5.0 engine bolt up in there?
Just came across this video and I'm blown away and I'll tell you why. I couldn't imagine what you paid for that snap on scope and hate to tell you but my wife got me one from Temu last year for 36 bucks I think it was and um, it's the same thing! Same features on the screen, even the same color it just doesn't say snap on ,,,,on the front! When I seen your screen I couldn't believe it, it's the same as my 36 dollar unit! Also got a code reader from there as well, wonder if it's the same as well? However I've always thought those "tool trucks" were a scam, and now I know for sure they are!!
Dude, that trick saved my DAY!! Thank you so much! With this trick it was easy changing those rusty CV axles over for some new ones!!
me sirvió de mucho, Gracias
Help needed… I had a P0305 almost a yr ago. Replaced all plugs and cylinder 5 coil. Same problem has come back. Replaced all plug and cylinder 5 coil again. Still have the issue. It’s a 2019 Ford F-150 2.7 Ecoboost with no other issues. Any ideas would be great.
Likely a valve problem. They have had a few valve problems. Run a compression test on all six cylinders.
Awesome video and great tips. Been there and done this too many times. Most recently has been the sway bar bushing clamp bolts. The bolt heads usually just break off and your running through MANY drill bits trying to drill through the tough steel. Maybe there's a way to get the ball joint clamp on there.. I don't know. Throwing a hammer through the wall sure doesn't help
did mine today 2 hours totall.. that's why shops are ripoff
thanks a ton. one i did was terrible. 04 with 230k miles.
Good video
Have you fix the problem. Same symptoms of mine
Thank you so much! Had spent hours checking things under the hood and didn’t know much about wiring. This solved the problem and I learned lots of things. Thank you
Why not just a simple compression test
Very educational, thanks.
