Neat trick even though flinging the hard plastic risks injury. After finding 2.5 inch yellow dimpled stress balls to use in 2018 and a launcher the next day, I considered and tested HiRs in a diagonally cut ziplock baggie that held maybe 12 and worked pretty good in the launcher to rain down RIVAL from above too. Ultimately as the first RIVAL grenadier, I found a mostly hollow softer dog toy that would hold and shoot out a bunch more - maybe 30+ HiRs upon impact. A little care when tossing delivered that holy grail of frag out effects we all envisioned. Your method would be great in CQB and double for booby traps too during some specific game types to play.

I would say if you are going to do this on a mixed bag of darts don't mix colours as they do melt a bit and I have bits of blue and black now on my yellow and white darts.

Thank you. this worked for me. I found another way somewhere else that might help if you don't have a hair dryer: Drop the darts in boiling water for 2 seconds. It risks melting the darts completely if you leave them in for too long and then firing wet darts but it might be a better method for some people.
