One of the things i like about the emperor in WH40K is that he is basically an eldritch god (even more than the obvious chaos gods). He is not a god in the way we think of gods, he is a "human" but he is the final point of human evolution and he is so far ahead that his abilities looks like those of a god in the eyes of other beings, including his sons.

The Emperor returning would be a problem. Personally, and please correct me if I am wrong, but it might be more prudent to ease his burden, so to speak. If his Webway can be fixed, however difficult it may be, and/or perhaps shut down for good, then Terra won't be at risk of being consumed by the Warp and the Emperor won't have to strain himself holding it back. If they could come up with a new method of interstellar navigation, then the Astronomechon won't be needed anymore either. The ideal scenario would be to render the Emperor obsolete, so that he can finally find the peace he has earned. ... Now that I think about it, could this backfire a little? Could his internment on the Golden Throne, fighting off the Warp, be the only thing preventing him from fully becoming the new Chaos God? It just occurred to me that with the faith of all mankind believing him to be a god, I'm not sure what would happen if his burden was lifted.

The best thing about Cawl's declaration here is that it applies no matter what happens. If the Emperor emerges whether as the Dark King or the Star Child, humanity will suffer. It may be like the birth of Slaanesh all over again, reducing our race to remnants a step from extinction if not outright annihilating us. Even if it doesn't, the Emperor will have become the embodiment of the wrathful fanatical God that the Imperial Cult portrays him ass, dispensing miracles and penances wantonly and randomly. Ever played Blasphemous? Now imagine that on galactic scale, Warhammer-style. If the Emperor rises from the throne restored as he fully was, the Imperium is still in for a bad time. He will likely reenact the Burning of Monarchia across the Imperium, seeking to restore compliance to the Imperial Truth, which will likely drive countless into the Lorgar Fallacy of choosing the Chaos Gods just because they CAN'T live without a god to worship. While I personally think the Imperial Creed needs to go, the upheaval this will cause across the Imperium will its own brand of cataclysm. The Emperor may also rise from the throne a very changed man. If he's been conscious of what's been happening around him for 10.000 years, it's fair to say he is VERY, VERY PISSED. Or perhaps even deranged and broken, especially considering he's been kept alive by the daily sacrifice of countless Psykers.
