Sneads Creek Campout (Day 2)
This was our return trip from Sneads Creek. We saw a beautiful sunrise, a neat bluff line, and got hit by a downpour about a mile from our vehicles. Good times with good people.

The weather was otherwise perfect for this time of year. This video shows the trip into Sneads and our campsite, as well as some cool timelapse clips.

Despite the thunderstorm forecast I decided to break out my fly fishing gear for the first time in years and drive up to Beaver Dam to fish for trout. The Corps of Engineers has been generating power from about 11 am to 11pm everyday for about 2 weeks, so I had to get there early to get in a few hours on the river. Today, they actually started generating at 10 am. I haven't fished this tailwate...

Now that hiking season is basically over (too hot, too many ticks, etc.) I turn my attention to doing conditioning hikes (walks really) out at Pea Ridge Battlefield. Hopefully, you'' be interested to go camp there again and see some of the waterfalls up a couple of the 4 drainages that have a few big waterfalls each. I know I'll set it up for March again. That's an annual event for me since hiking to the falls from the bottom is much easier than starting all the way from the top. Then there is Horsehead Creek where I've backpacked into a couple of times and set up a basecamp where Dawson Branch is. Then there's Turner Hollow, Slogan Hollow and Emerald Hollow with many waterfalls

If you report the damage, the USFS will take care of immediately...ah hahahahahahaha. Susie was almost nearly impaled on the deadly tree spikes. The chainsaw person could have been a she, or any number of other style people. Just be glad you don't live up north where bugs are ridiculous. You're new name is BugNet Johnny. I couldn't believe they'd use a small one like that for a tree of that size. I appreciate their effort though. Bug were bad in parts but mostly on the eastern side of the loop. And bug nets are a must have this time of year. All the cool kids have one. Suzie is all about fashion in the forest. She likes to mix and match before we head out for a hike. But she does look cute.

      This is the West Fork Horsehead Creek, not the main Horsehead Creek (which is east and north from where we were) that flows under the new bride into Horsehead lake. If you go down to the day use area there's a road that goes west for a little bit and intersects with another dirt road and the West Fork Creek itself. Park there and cross the creek and follow the ATV road out for 3 miles. That's where we camped.

    There’s nothing wrong with kids screaming and hollering in the woods you curmudgeon and because everyone knows this you literally accuse the kids of carving into trees saying “These are the very same people who are carving their names into trees and rocks and stuff” despite having zero evidence of this. You are the problem not them, take a look at yourself.

    • @travelingwithspinoza
      @travelingwithspinoza Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks for watching the video, or at least part of it. I may sound like a curmudgeon but I fully stand by what I said here. First, I didn't accuse these particular people of carving their names on rocks or trees. I hadn't even laid eyes on them yet when I said that. A more reasonable interpretation (and what I actually meant) is that these are the very same types of people that would likely engage in tree or rock carving behavior. Rowdy behavior usually manifests itself in a variety of ways. Does it always? No. But chances are greater. Had I witnessed them doing so you can bet your bottom dollar I would have included a much longer rant about it. Second, you say there's nothing wrong with kids screaming and hollering in the woods. You and I do not have a shared perspective of what the forest is. To me, places of natural beauty that are open to the public are not just places "in the woods." The forest serves as a kind of sanctuary or place of solitude, and for some, it is even a church. Being respectful of others while in the forest is one of the seven principles of Leave No Trace (go to lnt.org to see more). Noise pollution is still pollution and degrades the quality of the experience for the visitor. We had to double time it down to the waterfall area just to ensure we would have a few minutes to enjoy the area before they arrived. Once they did, they ran all over the place screaming and climbing over every rock they could. Glory Hole Falls should not be treated like a city park.
