Today in this video I have discussed about the olfactory nerve, which is the first cranial nerve.
- Humans have twelve pairs of cranial nerves, and 31 pairs of spinal nerves. -- - The cranial nerves arise from the brain while the spinal nerves arise from the spinal cord.
- These nerves, whether it be cranial or spinal, have special functions to perform, providing sensory as well as motor control over the body.
- The cranial nerves perform functions of sensation, movement, and autonomic control.
- There are in total of twelve cranial nerves.
- The Olfactory nerve is the first cranial nerve among the twelve cranial nerves.
- Olfactory nerve, the first cranial nerve, is a pure sensory nerve that enables one’s sense of smell. Taking those senses from the nose and relaying It to specific areas of the brain.
- There are three important structures that are involved in carrying the sense of smell via the olfactory nerve.
- The olfactory nerve starts from the olfactory hairs which detect the smell, the olfactory nerve fibers that carry the sense and the olfactory bulb that is the end point. The olfactory bulb ultimately relays this information to the specific areas of the brain.
All of this is discussed in detail in the video. Watch the full video for more context.

    hey there! just in the given case, what would you say the diagnosis is? chronic fibrous pulpitis or acute serous pulpitis? since you said that the patient's complaint is pain when chewing i was assuming at first that it was a case of acute serous pulpitis, but then when it was mentioned that symptoms and signs where not present whatsoever (Like thermal sensitivity or spontaneous pain) i concluded it is a case of chronic fibrous pulpitis. Can you clarify that?

    My pain seems to fall into the category of reversible, but it has been ongoing for over 8 months, so it doesn’t seem to be reversing. It began after a filling (when the tooth never hurt before the filling). Is there anything I can do to help it reverse at this point (like antibiotics) or do I most likely need a root canal?

    • @martinrea8548
      @martinrea8548 Před 3 měsíci

      I had a similar issue recently-pain on anything cold or hot touching the tooth and some pain too when I chewed on food. I was worried the tooth was infected and would eventually have to be pulled. The dentist took an X-Ray and couldn't see any evidence of an abscess, however, the tooth had an old filling in it and that was worn thin so the nerve was being affected. She removed the old filling and replaced it with a new one. The tooth seems to be settling down now and I can eat and drink pretty much as normal again. Anti-biotics will help with symptoms if there is an infection present, but it will only be temporary relief and the infection will return again, worse than before, and the tooth will have to be removed or else a root canal performed. Have your dentist check out that filling-maybe it isn't sealing the tooth properly. Best of luck, tooth ache can be very painful.

    • @mn_ice
      @mn_ice Před 3 měsíci

      @@martinrea8548 Thanks for sharing your story. I had an x-ray at an endodontist yesterday, and it showed abscess forming around the tooth, so I guess I need a root canal. I'm in so much pain now, I can actually hardly wait 2 weeks for the root canal (that I thought I was trying to avoid!). They put me on antibiotics too, so hopefully that will help with some of the pain from the infection in the meantime.
