Lost Gold of the Highlands 2014
Armed with bundles of ancient maps, a leaking boat and a failing heart, this film follows one extraordinary man's quixotic and recklessly brave adventure in search of hidden treasure, in a belated rite of passage to reclaim his soul and to rediscover the meaning of his life.
From the Academy Award winning producer of SEARCHING FOR SUGAR MAN and MAN ON WIRE, this documentary film touches upon universal themes: dreams, inspiration and the resonating power of hope.

Binge-drinking. Consumerism. Hooliganism. Slaggishness. Rudeness. Violence. Bigotry. All delivered with stylish references to historical English working class pleasure seeking in times many hundreds of years ago. A superb slice of social history in all its visceral glory.

    Terrific film but I am forever hopeful that one day this great will be available in its full width as seen in the trailer instead of this cropped 4:3 version.

    My nephew and his wife own the house that used to belong to 39 steps Author John Buchan. It's a beautiful large house located on a sizable portion of land in an idyllic rural setting in Peebles Scotland.

    A good film but it's a completely different story to the book. The book was much better. Hannay worked on his own; there was no woman with him. I won't give any spoilers but the book was impossible to put down and had far more intrigue and thrills. Very old fashioned but it was written over 100 years ago.

    Things really go bad with ... "votes for women" ... one thing they absolutely get right (and any women "getting outraged" over this statement just prove why it is correct ... because PEOPLE CONTROLLED BY EMOTIONS SHOULD NOT VOTE [which includes a large chunk of men as well these days])!

      Acting as a Nanny, you know. Mary Poppins was also a Nanny. Many a young child having been brought up by a nanny may in later years have been able to explain. 'They are built like Old battle Axes. Tough as old boots and don't take no for an answer'.

    37:05 at this point, the viewer could be forgiven for forgetting that hannay is in fact a james bond type. but, aside from what we KNOW, we SAW: - physical capacity - escaping from dangerous situations - evading tracker dogs - cracking a code - manipulating people

    31:45 something seriously wrong here. a nation-wide manhunt for ONE ... merely SUSPECTED ... murderer of some random unknown guy? does not pass the smell test

  • @victorfinberg8595
    @victorfinberg8595 Před 7 dny

    24:35 something wrong there. so far, hannay is only a murder suspect. the royal air force isn't going to send a fighter to shoot him down on the heath. and how would they even find him? that pilot only sees some random guy out for a stroll. (we find out later ... that is NOT an RAF plane ... although how the germans got a fighter there remains a mystery)

    Hard to believe I watched the same movie as most of the commentors below. In every respect; acting, direction, story, the 1935 version exceeds this hands down. Even IMDB gets it (almost) right, giving this turkey 6.3 (should be no more than 5) whilst the 'original' gets a well deserved 7.6. The comedic element alone earns it that rating...

    Perhaps one day somebody will make a film of The 39 steps the way John Buchan wrote it. I don't mind a bit of artistic licence when transferring from a novel to film but apart from the title and the name of the principal character this film has little in common with the book.

    I've watched the many versions of 39 Steps and will watch this one. It moves rapidly and to the point. What a strange plot and ending. Well, the dancing, dining and dxxx is out of the question for the star of the plot. I liked the other versions better than this one although it left a lasting impression.

    I believe that plane is an SE5. They didn't exist until well into the war - late 1916, and still experimental then. In this movie, WW1 was still a month or so away. I don't know how the BBC could have got this so monumentally wrong.
