Fishing for Shallow Spring Musky in the Kawarthas
Join us as we go fishing for shallow spring Musky and explore the pristine Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, diving into early season musky fishing techniques. Targeting these elusive predators in shallow waters, we use bucktails and glidebaits to entice the bite. We also focus on the major and minor moon phases, revealing how lunar cycles can impact musky activity and increase your chances of success. We were able to raise a good amount of fish and saw a bunch of follows, but it was hard to make these musky commit to eating a lure.

Aurora Bassmasters Canal Lake Pike Tournament
zhlédnutí 318Před 2 měsíci
I fished the 2024 Canal Lake Pike tournament hosted by the Aurora Bassmasters a few weekends ago! The bite was slow and we caught most of our fish in the afternoon. I only fished Canal Lake twice before so I milked one spot all day, with an exception in the afternoon which is where I caught the biggest pike of our day. We caught most of our fish on jerkbaits and the biggest pike was caught on a...

It's now time for Spring Pike Fishing in Ontario! In this video I will go over the top lures to use for Pike in Ontario during the Spring. I have been using these lures for years and every lure on this list has consistently caught me tons of Pike year after year. This is one of my favourite times of year to fish for pike and in general. I have some of the greatest days on the water during these...

This is the Correct Way to Fish a Jerkbait! I have been catching fish on a jerkbait for 10 years and I have caught more fish on a jerkbait than any other lure! I've caught my BIGGEST Canadian bass (6.76lbs) on a jerkbait, I caught my personal best Pike on a jerkbait as well and I have caught just about every fish you can catch in Ontario on a jerkbait (walleye, perch, musky, panfish, etc) I wil...

What is your line setup? And what knot do you use?
I use a 6’3 medium rod w/ 20lb braid and palomar knot to my leader or bait. You can get away with lighter line and with a flouro leader for bass but I’ve been using this setup since I use it for pike and bass.
@@citybassboy99 10lb flouro for leader?
Where abouts is this ?
how do I know what my rod can handle with weight? how do I know what lbs line to use with it. I have jig heads with bait that is soft rubber.
Look on the rod for the action and the lure and line ratings. Everything I mentioned in the video can be thrown on any standard medium rod. I would use 15-20lb braid for the line to be safe and that will work for most lures
Gotta make a video on each !!! st Lawrence, Rideau river , Charleston lake !!
I haven’t been to any of those yet 😳
Wich bait do you use
I show it in the video!
I love your vids man
Thanks bro 💪
Maybe 9 dont know much about pike im a bass fisherman
Where you from?
Big catches 💪
Yessir hopefully the Fall they’ll be bigger 💪
Yes it’s the only weather we get in Scotland. Only difference is id be in shorts and t-shirt
Crazy Scots
Great video man!! Good stuff! I’ll be heading out tomorrow to make a pike fishing video and this is really well done! Keep up the awesome job mate! 🤝🤝💪💪
Thanks bro! I’ve watched a bunch of your videos as well - I like your editing style a lot.
@@citybassboy99Thank you! I just followed you on instagram!! I should start posting some more on there! Good stuff! 👌👌
Sweet! I didn’t know you can catch pike this far off the shore
Ahah the lake is so shallow you can pretty much catch them anywhere 😳
Can you catch and cook these?
Yeah Pike are delicious but more difficult to fillet than other fish because of their “Y” bone. I’d watch some CZcams videos on it first. I never really keep any fish I catch though.
@@citybassboy99 oh ok ty
You are sleeping on the 1oz RatLtrap
I might be aha
@@citybassboy99 i add a bladed treble to the front hook. It adds even more flash and bites.
@@MrFloydroy I’m a fan of feathered hooks and bladed hooks. Extra flare is always nice.
Thanks dude! I’m a 31 year old aboriginal Canadian, been fishing my whole life but I appreciate the knowledge. Just looking into bait and lure prospects from others for my coming trip! Happy fishing! 🎣 ✌🏼
Appreciate the comment man! Glad my videos helped I’m going to make more as the szn goes on :)
2 questions for you. 1st what line do you use? I've had trouble with couple types mostly reeling slack line. 2nd favorite megabass color for pike? Love the videos. Me and my young boys enjoyed your pike video too. Them F bombs tho. Subscribed
Thanks man I really appreciate it! I use 15-25lb braided line and white is my fav jerkbait colour for pike. Tbh if you have young boys I’d go with the X-rap. Comes ready to go out the package, more durable and cheaper. Let me know how it goes! I’ll start bleeping out my swears from now on too ahah
@@citybassboy99 what brand braid?
@@ragecandy889 this is personal preference but my favourite is PowerPro Super 8 Slick. I think I have it linked in my description.
I find the in-line spinner with a paddle tail trailer works best for me.
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of that it works! I use em mainly for musky.
I like your retrieve method on the swim baits, gotta try that for sure! Subbed ya! Cheers.
Thanks bro I hope it puts more fish in the boat for you!
Perfect fishing content keep it up its real and there’s no bullshit this is good content don’t stop making good vids I’ve been seeing people use swim jigs for pike would you say it’s valid?
Ps what do u think of x raps for pike?
X raps are some of my favourite jerkbaits for pike or in general. Also swim jigs are super valid. I use them a lot for pike and bass.
Thanks, my friend.
No problem!
If the water is clear do you still use wire leader?
Always wire leader. I don’t want big pike slicing through my braid.
@@citybassboy99 Thank you man. Going this weekend at to islands hoping to get some :) 🎣🎣

40 years of fly-in fishing Northern Ontario in the spring (last 2 weeks of May), I totally agree with all your choices. I'm usually fishing Algoma country, flying out of White River. What's amazing is I even agree with your order of most productive. My regular pattern has settled on 80% Rapala Husky Jerks (blue & silver has been my consistent slayer). If too weedy moving to a Zoom swim bait with a slightly exposed hook on top. Usually 7" zoom swim baits, but sometimes they only want the 4.5 incher's. Thanks for taking the time to post this vid. Your appreciated. Will be on Lake Esnagi 1 week from today
Appreciate the comment man! Good to know my experience of about 14ish years fishing aligns with your 40 ahah I must be going in the right direction then. Good luck on the trip!
Love the videos I fish around the conservation areas still haven’t caught anything big what areas do you recommend?
Are you in southern Ontario?
THANKS 4 POSTING! WILL GIVE IT A TRY W IDAHO TIGERS! TOMMORROW!!!
AWESOME HOT TIPS" will give it a try! CHEERS" and Newsub in Idaho! jd
Damn Idaho that’s sick! Appreciate the love!
I caught a 5pounder today on one after every thing else had failed two cast later bam
Jerkbaits are mint because they can be a “fast” presentation but still finesse since u can hold it in place for a while.
Holmes point near duclos
I appreciate the help. I’ve been trying to learn and you just helped a lot
Thanks bro! I have a full in depth video on my channel.
great video man🙏 do you fish your jerk bait on a spinning real as opposed to a bait caster for any particular reason or just preference
I find It’s much easier to get stronger, controlled downward jerks because of the spinning setup and how you hold a spinning rod. Baitcasters are way too awkward to jerk hard and down.
What leader do you use, and do you use a snap swivel cause usually i heard they lower the action of the lure
@@aiden4206 When i fish for pike I use any normal 6 inch wire leader you find at bass pro, etc. Black or silver colour doesn’t rlly matter. For bass, I use a small clamp that you can also find at bass pro, etc. The clamp is so small I don’t think it impedes the action much. The leader probably does impede the action slightly compared to no-leader but when you’re pike fishing you have no choice you need a leader
@@citybassboy99 Thank you! I just got into pike fishing, so i dont know much.
The jump scare at the end😂
Holy jumbo perch!
Where is this bay ? Ain’t secret?
simcoe gotta be one of the better perch waters from what ive seen, atleast thats the most recommended videos i get hehe, tight lines :)
Yeah it’s the best spot around for perch I’d say
Thanks for shoutout lads good to see you get on them 🤘😎 perch are too much fun
Yeah they were more fun than I thought they’d be. Thanks for your tips 💪
15 minutes with no traffic 😂 ❤
Save soooooo much on gas money ahah
Yo I live in Toronto where’s that at?
Toronto harbour
Let’s get out and wet a line sometime
What lake?
Great place for pike!!
Yessir
Do you need a harbour liscence for this?
You do need a harbour license to be in the Toronto harbour aka the Toronto islands/canals. The 2 points of entry to the harbour is the East and West channel
Awesome vid, good catch.
Glad you enjoyed!
if you don’t mind me asking, is that the little ship canal?
Tbh I don’t know the names of the canals but I pretty much fished through all of them. Send me a DM on insta if u want more info
Great fish! Love the energy
Thanks man I appreciate it!
Great vid!
💪🙏
Sick video🫡
How’s the scope work for the shallow water pike?
I was able to use it nicely in 6-9ft which is where we fished for most of the day. I was able to see pike follow a few times. But the last spot of the day was 10-40ft and u could definitely see it shine in that 20ft+ zone. Much more better using it out deep like that. Still happy with it shallow though. I tried perspective mode too but that’s too advanced for my first time 😂. I just got it this winter.
Damn loved this, that fish at 4:00 was FAT!
Aha ikr it might’ve been my fattest per inch of body length pike I’ve ever caught!
Dang bro u have to take me one day
Dude we gotta get out man
