Located in the Pacific North West, Favourite Boatworks is a traditional wooden boatbuilding company specialized in wooden boat restoration, maintenance, interior design and construction. On this channel we're currently documenting the process and restoration of the historical ship The North Star of Herschel Island.
The North Star of Herschel Island is the last surviving Inuvialuit arctic fur trading ship, built in 1935 primarily as a motor vessel to transport arctic fox pelts, she was later modified as a square rigged ship. From 1968 to 1973 she was used for scientific expeditions in the Arctic Sea, she was later used to survey the British Columbia - Alaska border and was at one point commissioned by Cambridge University to search for mermaids in the north. She is a ship full of history and we're proud to be able to restore her and document the process for the world to see.

Exceptional!❤
Hi, I'm still very impressed. Respect. I keep my fingers crossed for Poland.⛵⚓.
Lovely to see Maya there playing music with you guys! She's such a wonderful musician and videographer. I suspected you were both at the same yard - the trees and general setting looked the same.
I just found you and have subscribed. I read somewhere that u-tube quit keeping track of the "likes" and were only monitoring the comments. Glad you caught this. Cheers, great videos.
We're fighting against the algoritm and we're struggling to get our videos out to a larger audience, please consider LIKING, SUBSCRIBING and checking out our PATREON to make sure that we can keep producing videos long term!
You guys are the Real Deal. Keep up the awesome work.
2x6 framing on the lunch room! impressive...
I’m Not a boat builder but just curious why not bronze fasteners?
Cost
As above commentor stated it comes down to cost.
Look up sailing flying coney They have a awesome solid wood sailing vessel needs new owners
J aurais bien donner un billet pour récupérer la poupe du bateau comme objet de décoration.., la prochaine fois, appelez moi avant de la découper.., je vous paye la bière tout au long du chantier pour une telle pièce! Very nice work !
My favorite channel 🙏. Plz don’t ever change a thing, except get the North Star back in the ocean where she belongs 😉
I think the channel is struggling. CZcams’s algorithm sucks. We have to share.
❤❤❤❤❤
That Morgan🥰🥰
That transom build was excellent
Beautifully shot and edited. Everyone is so good on camera, and explanations are so clear. Plus, excellent work on the boat itself!
Make sure to like follow and check out Patreon if you'd like to further support the show! We need all the help we can get!
Facinating work! I also enjoy the background music. How much of the structure is replaced? 70-80%?
Merci beaucoup pour cette super vidéo
You all make it look so easy. Must take years to build that level of confidence.👍👍
Enjoying this greatly. While I do dearly love my other restoring boat channels that have taken years to get where there are (it takes a village and not everyone has said village immediately at hand). It is rather amazing to watch a shop with many skilled individuals and a deadline rip through a project and restore a hsitoric vessel.
Great progress! That transom looks outstanding. Black locust?
Respect. That’s all I can say.
Thank you for sharing - looks like amazing progress is happening...
I’ve been waiting all afternoon for this… 😊
They have been feeding them spaghetti again haven't they.
Delightful episode. You have to be good to work in flip flops!
Haha that's too funny.
Thanks for this. I am now feeling a bit more in step with the what, how, and stuff. Obviously if keep up with watching it will all start to make sense. Best.
Good to catch up, and see new wood being prepped and fitted. Hope that you will not mind me saying, that I am finding it hard to follow, largely because there is so much rotted timber, and understanding what and how it will be replaced without loosing the shape of the ship. There is some synergy with the way that Yaba was rebuilt. Keep up the good work. Great stuff.
Can we all stop for a tiny moment and give a ‘hell yeah’ for all the trees in the world.
Hello, I've been waiting and it's finally here :). You are doing a great job, I admire and support you. Greetings from Poland. :)
I did a little bit of it on the fish boat i worked on before the fishing season. It's not hard work but its back breaking. I watch the Tally Ho crew doing that hull and could feel the pain in my back and knees. 😂
Isn’t backbreaking basically a synonym of hard work? 😉
@@FavouriteBoatworks Touche. Allow me to be more specific. It's hard on the back. But it's not hard work. The odd angles and the fact that the perfect height is only perfect for a few boards width then you are reaching or stooping. Sorry I misspoke, it won't happen again.
Another great episode - thanks! And what a fantastic learning setup. Looking forward to seeing more. (I assume by now you’ve determined this boat is salvageable? In an earlier episode I think someone said you’d do only so much disassembly then make a call…)
She can and will be restored, the big question mark has been regarding how much can be saved, this will be clarified in the next couple of months, or you can check out the patreon where we share more up to date information (the channel is about 2 months behind)
And you can use it Gor s canoe later!
Caulking?
Corking/caulking, both words are used
A great set up for learning, it's always more fun laying on your back on a muddy slipway trying to beat the returning tide.
That would be fun..
Man, the work. So much work. I’m overwhelmed but happy to watch. Tally Ho is finally in the water but here I go again…
WTF does Tally Ho have to do with this channel?
Welcome onboard! ⚓️
Years ago, I did a little corking on the Adventuress (Seattle). As I remember, we were trained to do it with wet bottom paint in the seam. Is this how you plan to do it, or are there different opinions on the proper way to do it?
The cotton absorbs a lot of water. Any paint over freshly set cotton will keep the cotton dry through the morning dew. Under the water bottom paint is a great choice because you’ll be painting it with bottom paint plus if the worms get that far it will detour them from the cotton( worms love cotton). Above the water some topside paint or primer works great.
