Stuff like this is maddening to find. Great video!
The amount of time I’ve spent going through wires trying to find stuff like that . One little crimp can cause so many issues ! Nice trouble shooting!
Yep, and the intermittent ones are always the worst!
Very cool!!!
I always get jealous of these auctions, don’t really have any close enough to me . I’d have to drive like 6 hours to the closest.
Yeah, We are lucky to have this one in our backyard.
Stupid question: when you reflow solder joints, does that mean adding new solder to them or just melting the old solder and then letting it re-harden? Just did my first successful board fix on WhiteWater but want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Always afraid I'm gonna burn a trace or a mounting point.
You add a bit of fresh solder too. If you want to do it really well, it is actually best to remove all the all solder first and then add new solder, but this takes much more time, so may people skip the removal unless the old solder has already been reflowed, or if the old solder is really bad/corroded.
Great "Pinball" repair :) Love the video, thanks
Thanks for watching!
Junkyard is a great game! Don’t see them to often . Nice job finding that diode , it’s amazing what one stupid little component can do ! I’ve had one of the reset daughter birds in my twilight zone for a year now and cross my fingers it’s been good !
Well, when it gets bad enough not to boot, it will probably bad enough to more easily diagnose the weak 5V. The WPC's had a moderately weak 5V from the git go.
I had the same fault on a dataeast Batman last week. That faulty diode is part of the bridge rectifier which is supplying a 12 volt regulator. With one diode in the bridge open circuit the DC produced on the large Capacitor is low. Testing on my Batman game showed 0.5 volts AC ripple on the smoothing capacitor and about 8 volts Dc instead of 13 V ..unregulated 12 volt. New bridge rectifier produced 13 volts and 0.1 volts Ac ripple.Only difference was Batman had a 4 pin rectifier instead of your 4 seperate diodes. There was no symptoms at all with Batman. Testing for AC ripple on DC lines is important. Diodes as you know usually go short not oc. That would have blown a fuse . Much easier to fix. Good videos there.
Thanks for watching!
The kids are always about the money
This was in the arcade of a small local tavern down the road when I was a kid. My first pinball love. They also had t2, Addams family, and twilight zone roll through but this one was always there. Always thought it was a great looking game and loved the callouts, We’ll be back, Jack!

This game still sells kind of cheap. It is underrated, IMO.
You did a very good job explaining what’s happening. I played funhouse yesterday and was curious what was going on in that machine. Excited to watch more of your videos!
Glad you enjoyed!
If you ever decide to sell that one. I really want either a mission or an odyssey as my first machine.
Probably keeping this one for a while...
Playfield in good condition except not the original Gottlieb flippers
I'm shocked that those batteries didn't leak and screw up the MPU board. The owner got really lucky! By the way, this game uses non-magnetic balls as I recall. I learned this the hard way on the one I worked on back in the day when the moon feature wasn't working properly because someone had installed normal balls in the machine.
Yeah, they don't make batteries like they used to.
wow :D cool
Tive algumas Apolo, boa máquina, não dão muita manutenção.
That’s a great game , first time I’ve seen one worked on or played . Interesting that it uses the black beast coils like Data East used .
At the time, the manufacturer's were collapsing/merging...so lots of crossover.
Hopefully that wasn’t your toothbrush Jane was using to clean the dirty moon 😂
Always enjoy your repair videos , keep going . I know it’s slow to start but I think the more videos you do the more people will start watching . I appreciate you taking the time to film , I realize how much time it takes .
Thanks 👍
Those batteries are from the 90’s . I’d even go as far to say they may be the originals. Or maybe the second set. They haven’t used that logo in many years . I’m surprised they were still going ! I guess we could say they went in in the early 2000’s but still , that’s a very long time ! And I just googled and Rayovak sold to Energizer like 5 years ago . Never even knew !
Crazy they still had a charge and had not leaked!
What capacitor meter was that?
XC60131L It is kind of a cheapo, but it works OK.
That’s a long time for a machine to be hooked up wrong.😂 My local arcade in Arlington Tx got 2 Pirates of the Caribbean and both were wired wrong out of the box.😂😂
The hardest fixes are the ones from the factory, because it is always the last place you look...LOL
Good job debugging the score motor problem
Thanks!
That poor backglass , wish whoever put that tape on there , never did 😂. Did not do it any favors . If only they triple thicked it back then . First time I’ve seen this game , nice job as always !
Maybe, or maybe it would be completely gone without the tape??? But for sure triple thick is a better solution.
I can't think of another multi-player Gottlieb EM where the extra ball carries on from previous progress instead of resetting everything. That makes this a multi-player with elements of single players since the extra balls aren't just "another ball." Balanced scoring and good objectives make this one of the best of the GTB 70's machines.
I don't know any others either.
Paragon is an amazing Wide bodied Solid State game. Paragon shows up in a lot of major tournaments down south. Looking forward on playing this !!! Great job on the video !!
Probably be on route later this summer!
Have fun. Hope you pick up some good ones. And was that your Galaxian cocktail in that group?
Yes it was!
Gyruss!!! I want it!!!
Gyruss is a great game. Joe's Classic Video Games just featured one on their channel. czcams.com/video/G6c8DFfbI4c/video.htmlsi=svGcIIWYon5Qqvyg
Yeah, a true classic!
How do you get these tips/heads up on where the games are for sale? Biggest challenge i have is finding hunting down the games to restore/buy.
Oftentimes they call me based on my website or word of mouth.
Played it at Sutrees!! Fun but brutal!
It's hard compared to newer games, but relatively easy compared to most EMs...they were all super tough.
Thanks for taking us along with you on the coin op excursion. Looks like you picked up some good machines. Looking forward to more videos like this. In my 30+ years of hunting down over 160 machines in this great hobby, I found lots of gems. Good luck hunting games in the future.
Good attempt. I bet if you keep at it you'll figure it out. If only there was a repository of user created content in video form where people could show other how to make similar successful attempts. Maybe it could be make by people like YOU, and it would be like watching a show on an old TUBE tv? 😉Thanks for the videos.
It was a glob of solder that was dropped on the plastic piece and looks like maybe old glue.
Who cares about the rubber. Painted cab would have turned me off. At least enough to try talk them down on price.
I have this same machine trying to figure out why it’s not booting up. Where did you get that new power board
It was a Rottendog. I didn't buy it. I would prefer to repair the original power supply instead. They are better made, more reliable, and easier to repair when necessary. That said, you can find a Data East pinball power supply at many pinball suppliers.
Here is one: www.pinballlife.com/rottendog-data-east-power-supply-board.html
The arcade you didn't recognize could have been Williams, Joust?
Yep, you nailed it. Thanks!
Great video - really interesting game
Thanks for the visit
I been looking for a cheap cab to convert to a mame/pandora machine but cannot find one local for less than 200 or without traveling all over the state 😂
Get a flat pack or buy an empty new cabinet. I can name a few resources if you want. It seems like there is a place for restoring these old ones.
That Gottlieb wedgehead looks to be in excellent condition. Thanks for the game play video.
You bet
This is a great video for anyone thinking of doing a playfield swap. Thanks for sharing and taking time out to explain in detail from your busy daily schedule.
Glad you enjoyed...
Dollar store place mats are great for putting your boards on. Dirt cheap too.
Good idea!
I hope you put new mylar circles around the pop bumpers. I cleared mine, didn't replace those mylar circles and eventually they started to break and chip out.
No problems so far. The playfield was super clean and sanded a bit, so the clear should stick...I suppose time will tell.
I might be interested in the Mata Hari, I’m in middle Tennessee, near Smithville. I’ll see tomorrow about getting in touch.
Cool, give me a call on Monday.
Gorgeous example of the rare Recel's. One of these days I will add one to the collection. Nice post!
Thanks!
Nice Work. I would think the clear would need some time to harden before playing a game.
It had about 5 weeks.
Jane worked her magic again ! Thanks for doing an experiment with the 2 part clear . I was wondering how it would react with the paint . Now I know ! Game looks really nice , as good as it could for the shape it was in . Nice job all around!
yeah, Jane is pretty awesome at touching up the playfields. I just can't ever get the colors quite right.
Nice work. Thanks for making the video on it.
You bet
Test leads and alligator clips are a lot easier
Glad that the adjustment of the flippers on the Abracadabra worked out so well. It was frustrating me a little when the ball didn't want to go where I thought it would or when I had a hard time capturing it. Being more used to modern pins now, I could not decide if something was wrong or if it was normal for that machine. I find it interesting how manufacturers put in little adjustments like that which fine tune how a game plays. It is something I didn't really think of as a player until I created a 3D model of a Silverball Mania playfield I intended to use in teaching myself to build tables for Visual Pinball and discovered the extra holes where posts and metal pins could be relocated to change the difficulty. BTW, the name is Jim. Just think Star Trek pinball and McCoy's line, "He's dead, Jim."
Yeah, there is fixing a game, and there is tuning a game. Not unlike just OK food versus a well prepared meal. Some will hardly notice the difference, but the foodies/pinheads will truly appreciate!
