One question, are you sure you can use all your arrow with arcane bodkins with your bow of Loren? As it’s written seems you can do only one shot with it ( sadly..) 🤦🏻♂️
Where does it say you only get one shot? "An Asrai longbow with Arcane Bodkins has an AP of-2." and the Bow of Loren is an Asrai Longbow that gives you more shots.
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 its on force of fantasy FAQ🤦🏻
@@tizianomerello6530 Well spotted! Totally missed that, thank you. :)
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 I think it’s the worst faq ever.. 40 points for only 1 shot with -2 … classic stupid GW FAQ😅
very unfortunate for that beastman player to lose a quarter of their army to a break test, but that's what happens when you put all your punch in one unit :s. I really like your WE list, it seems really punchy and evasive.
Yeah, always a risk for sure! Me too, it has been very strong indeed, fixing the batreps from the tournament I was on atm, the list performed really well there!
Nice battle report with great pictures so it was easy to tell what was going on. Skaven find it very hard to deal with monsters let alone a dragon.
When are we getting more reports?
Soon! Real life took over the last months, but getting some time to get back to it within a few weeks :)
That was a pretty cheesy Chaos army list sheesh.
It was. That Chaos player went hard on the Wood Elf player.
Until we get a FAQ, Welcome to the Old World Hero Dragon edition.
Wood Elves are probably the worst/least fun opponents to face, they just kite/shoot all game and melee armies like Chaos spend to whole time chasing and not getting to do anything all game, meanwhile Wood Elf player is a having a great time not interacting with their opponents army and just taking cheap pot-shots all game. Real fun 😂
What are the rules with forests. You cant see a unit behind a forest right? Can the dragon see over forests because it larger target. I know if any models are in the forest they can see other models not in the forest and vice versa. Do you draw line of sight for each model and count tress as blocking line of sight.
Regarding the glade/wild rider double charge: my understanding is charge moves in effect happen simultaneously and maximising includes both units. So you could have put the wild riders in and had one glade rider on the end right?
😎😎
You just have to kit your dragon to stall the enemy most threatening unit while you shoot off the rest. 549 - Glade Lord, Forest dragon, Bedazzling helm, Talisman of protection, A Beffudlement of mischiefs, an Annoyance of netlings And all those dragons hit you on 6s
WoW awesome combo. Lord with great weapon?
@@lCampde WoC Dragonlord could have been kitted out similarly with the MoN, Bedazzling Helm and Crown of Conquest, which is as far as I see the best way to kit it out (with enchanting aura)
I don't think you can issue a Challenge when it's just two Characters fighting each other outside a unit, can you? Annoyance of Netlings only comes into play during a Challenge. Bedazzling Helm can only be taken by Infantry and Cavalry, not on a dragon right?
@@consistentlystupid4726 the helmet was changed in the 1.1 faq/errata. It was possible prior
@@steffennilsen2132 Oooh you're right. It completely slipped my mind that the helmet only being Infantry and Cavalry was an Errata
It's pretty frustrating it's another edition where warriors can field an army of 10-20 models and easily win by just pushing everything forward. I really hated that about 8th; the army took 0 skill to use and still dominated tournaments. They should have at least made warriors/marauder infantry 1+, maybe made chaos knights max 1 per chaos warriors unit. Also I genuinely think they've made a big mistake in the rules giving a free reform after falling back in good order; its such a gigantic bonus to what should be a bad thing.
Ah yes. Warriors of Chaos should just...not be allowed to have units I guess? Warriors of Chaos certainly seem strong when the person doing the battle report completely bungles their deployment and movement, has his Glade Lord kitted out much more ineffectively than the Chaos Lord, and has in my opinion a pretty substandard list. Warriors of Chaos are not "winning easily by just pushing things forward". The Warriors of Chaos won easily because the Wood Elves took nothing that were going to be meaningful against ANY hard hitting army. He has no Anvil unit. 5 Wardancers and 2 Treekin are not going to cut it even against weak infantry like Empire Spearmen let alone anyone with a little more bite.
Is that right regarding the challenge? cant you then hit the unit after killing the challenge? Seems pointless to have champions to challenge out otherwise?
Totally agree, we couldn't find anything in the book, and more or less winged it with my dragon stomping the unit and his sphinx could hit me. But the talk around here amongst TOs is to play it like before, a challenge lasts for that combat round, feels like that is the intention, otherwise the dragons are even more powerful if you can't challenge them away
Opinions on dropping the mage and taking 2 dragons?
Can I ask why you prefer the ogre blade over the spear of twilight. Always like your vids as a wood elf player myself. Though I tend to make really different lists.
Bort med stödhjulet nu Pierran för fan 😂 buuuu till den där draken!
A dragon against rats... Have mercy
Hahaha
Pick your arrowheads carefully.
I agree the char on dragon are quite OP, a friend of mine has high elves and the dragon it's terrifying! I was thinking in make the shadowdancer wizard lv 4 and try to roll the spell (I think it was High magic) which give the unit ethereal and try on a blob of 15 dancers quite tough and scary
I enjoyed how the choices of beverage changed as the game progressed. Starting with some bubbly, the most wood elf of drinks.
First! 😁
Great Stuff 👌
Very old school batrep with still pictures. I like it.
Thank you!
In my only game of Old World so far, I managed to kill an elf lord on a dragon when I rear charged it with my unit of Knight Knights Errant. I broke it and ran it down.
That is one of the ways for sure! I supposed he whiffed a bit aswell? Really going to go into lists without a dragon in the future, at least for friendly games
Rule Clarification: Reserve move on units with random movement, you actually cannot use it to get them to charge. It specifically says if they contact in the "compulsory move phase". What you can do is earthen ramparts them, and then charge.
what he did was casting "Arcane Urgency", shouldn't that work? it's not a reserve move, just move again
Nice batrep! Have you looked at Wild Riders yet? They seem reallllllly strong and underpriced, especially if you have a lvl 4 of high magic that can give them +1A, which as far as I can tell effects the steed too.
Thank you! I certainly have, gonna try them the next game I play. The damage on paper is amazing, my worry with them is the frenzy... the fact that you HAVE to charge makes them a bit hard to manage and you need to put resources in babysitting them. But yes, I will try them for sure :)
Hey, i'm new to the old world and startet with wood elves (rule of cool 😃) How do you think WE are in this edition (without a Dragon), do you think they can hold up against other armies?
Hi, good for you! The game is fun and Wood Elves can certainly hold their own. I'm far from having tried everything, but most entries can be used. If you are new I still recommend that you start out with what you like, then continue to build it from there, the best experience is to play what you like and make it work :)
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 thx for the reply. I was just worried that it will be hard making WE work, because ranged attacks seemed not so great in this Edition and elves die quite fast 😁
😎😎
close order does not give a dragon a +1 CR. A dragon is not in a combat formation (2 or more models). Go reread the rules.
Settle down everyone is learning. do not be rude. I am glad people are trying.
Funny thing is that you are wrong with this one. Dragons are Behemoths, which have Lumbering, which says "a Lumbering model is considered to be, and follows all of the rules for, close order formation, even when included in your army as a single model". This overrides the need to be 2 models to be in close order formation. Then combat order just tells you that you need to be wider than deep or square. A single model 1x1 would be square and thus counts as combat order and get +1 CR. Now please go and read the book yourself before teaching other people on the internet xD
Indeed what dfn said, they do get the +1 ;)
100% INCORRECT. A unit arrayed in serried ranks is said to be in a 'Close Order' formation. A unit in Close Order consists of two or more models that are arranged in base contact with each other, edge-to-edge and front corner to front corner, as shown in Fig 100.1.
You need to jump around some as the rules are in several places.
The orc list is complztely illegal, u need one unit of black orcs dor each black orc character ^^ but agree, playong orcs s fun!
Since I played against a good friend I'm certain it was unintentional, will pass it on though since we both are on a quest to master the game! Yes, I have NEVER had a boring games against orcs, neither in fantasy or 40k :)
Please keep up the batreps, you're the only good player making any so far!
did you try to evade (the new Lone character rule) with the BSB at 26:50 ?
I didn't! I actually just read the rule when I got home at 3 in the morning afterwards :( But I'll certainly try to remember it, think it actually locks up a lot of gameplay with single characters and another thing to get used to. I think that, if you master it, it can excell your use of single characters and make them very potent!
he should have fed one unit a turn into the dragon instead of charging and bouncing off :s
Didn't mention it because I don't fully know which units had it, but at least one of the units failed the impetious test they had and had to charge, think even both cavalry units did. Besides that both of us where still only a couple of games in to TOW, and educational focus as it is in this stage, he wanted to get a feel of what it takes to take down a dragon outside of math hammer (hence the squighoppers once he was forced to commit)
I watched this
What is the status of T9A in Sweden? Is a majority of players moving towards TOW?
to early to say, but the feeling is yes, almost everyone I played T9A with moved over to TOW. Still a little group of hardcores that play T9A though, but a lot of people jumped on the hypetrain for TOW so it already feels bigger than T9A ever was
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 same in the UK, it's a little sad but I could kind of see the writing on the wall with T9A a few years ago, it was just running out of steam and enthusiasm, and releases were progressing too slowly. On the plus side I think it achieved it's main purpose really which was to make a game that would keep the community together as much as possible.
@@oitoitoi1 Totally agree, T9A had it's role and certainly a lot of bright points, but in my personal (and those I play with) opinion, they sacrificed too much in the pursuit of balance and streamlining. The core book is absolutley solid, but the army books missed the mark too much and the game feel quite soulless and I grew tired of it in a way I never did with old fantasy
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 Totally agree, that's what happened with me too, I really tried with it, and think while they got a lot right (the magic system especially was very good I thought, better than TOW tbh), it really started feeling a bit sterile. I went back to playing 6th edition and tbh even though it's not really balanced at all, I still had a lot of fun with it. That said the book of giants they released where every faction got a giant was absolute gold :D
@@oitoitoi1 haha, yeah, liked the giants aswell, gave some much needed flavour!
Good report. Edited highlights are the way to go. Try a smaller battle in the future, perhaps? 2k battles are great, but familiarizing yourself with your units a bit (one cavalry instead of 2, another wizard instead of a dragon) could see some wood elf victories in the future.
Thank you! We are actually discussing even to raise it to 2500 :) but as it seems the tournament scene will play 2k, so I just play that to get used to it. Yeah, thought about removing the dragon, going to try a list without it for sure, everything is still in a very early testing stage, but I have a few games coming up and figure I should be able to at least make a half decent list after that :)
Welcome back!! .. even if it's on the dark side.. :o) .. so DoC are also OP over there..
Great batrep buddy ;) we should do a game soon. I am equally as rusty as you to say the least
More chaff birds, mate 😊. Set up the dragon behind those birds and breath fire on targets if you don’t have a charge target. Concentrate your bows on a single unit like deamonettes, or another T3 unit, with mobile light cavalry and scouts moving to support glade guard numbers and free tree terrain blocking their flank, I thought you could have put a lot of fire power into the a deanomette/fiends.Maybe don’t centralise your army so much and deploy with the idea of move blocking with you free forest and creating a fire lane. There was a time when maybe you could have pushed past combat and shot the fiends in the back and given yourself a rear charging threat. It’s so easy to armchair general. 😂 Best of luck, I loved your 2 battle reports, they both are really insightful, enjoyable and interesting. Keep up the great work.
You are right, chaffbirds are the best! And yes, the target saturation sucked this game, so rusty I even lost the basics haha. Thank you! Will for certain continue on and press out as much as I can :)
Sisters of the Thorn - best unit in the game?
I would say dragon, but yes, they are still good, especially if you play them better then I did!
@@DwellerfromtheNorth01 getting to pick the spell you want on them seems a bit nuts, as a Welf I love it!
WE are quite broken in general.
@@SkinkChief It is indeed! Played them again and you are so right, it's really powerful. Combine that with that you don't shove your expensive level 4 in them so they just can run around offensively and spit out shooting and magic missiles and they become REALLY powerfull!
@@mireadur I wouldn't say broken, but they are strong for sure in the hands of a good general. One mistake still cost you a lot with exception of the dragon wich is insanely powerfull, but still not the best in the game
glade riders are best used to shoot at things, charge down chaff, and war machine hunt. they don't have the punch or durability for anything else generally, and they're much more valuable for their mobile shooting imo also, wardancers are too expensive to use as chaff, you're better off using dryads if you want to feed small groups of things to units ;p if you're using treekin or treemen, give one of them a befuddlement of mischiefs to debut initiative so you can tree whack better!
totally agree, the unit I charged was Yeomens, so chaff, so thought I would manage that, but with no re-rolls or +1 to hit (as in 8th and t9a) it's way more flimsy
Having watched both batreps, I think WE suits your playstyle poorly. There're many things you could have done to take advantage of your army's maneuverability, and top of that list would be pushing your dragon way more aggressively up behind the mid-table terrain. I think dwarfs would suit you better. Sitting back, wait for the enemy to come, crash into your anvil units and then countercharging.
I don't disagree, still to stuck in the old "take care of your glassdragon" as it has been before. The maneuverability will be used better when I get a better feel for it, still some mental blocking when you can't march and shoot etc. and it's still confusing not to think about things like steadfast on bigger units. I'd rather evolve and learn a new playstyle then choosing a book which suits my current arsenal to get comfortable :)
Thanks for the batrep, keep them coming! Maybe you need more ambushers or scouts - something to get into the backline would be good
Probably, and for sure I need to play them better! :) Still in a trying stage where I just want to try everything and get a feel for it
Great looking armies, friend.
I wish we had models coming our faster. Its really hard to start Oldworld for new players like me and my brothers who are just waiting for models and starting boxes to release. Probably even after that we are missing half the roster in stores I bet :D
Indeed, I think GW has been a bit over cautious with the release so far, hope they will scale up everything and just pump out stuff!
Great report! Love the dragon. Army looks awesome.
It's "Daemons". ;)
yeah, a bit rusty on the names as well xD will correct it to the next time :)
He returns! 🥳
