The author must have read my mind. I could not have said it better. I marvel every day that if I did not inadvertently watch Mysterious Lotus Casebook while visiting someone, I would never have known the existence of Cheng Yi. Now I am hopelessly drawn to Cheng Yi via one and only one drama (as someone who seldom watches any drama series and never non-Western ones). Recently I keep imagining him playing roles in some of my favorite classic books. Everything he does seems perfect to me. His beautiful "pianist's hands" are no exception.

I know nothing about drama or acting, but if I can watch the same drama repeatedly and still find something new in each watching, it is a good drama. If I want to watch the actor's scenes again and again, the actor must have done something right to draw me back frequently. So well said, author. I think what sets a superb actor apart from the good actor is not only the technical skills but also how well he or she portrays each little detail and emotions. I have never heard this particular term before. Even now after I tried several times, I still can't watch the scenes with Cheng Yi being hurt in any of his dramas. It just seems too real to me. How many of his counterparts do you think have this extraordinary ability to do powerful secondary creation of their characters? Before answering that question, here is another one. What does it take to have that incredible talent? I think some of the essential ingredients for that outstanding artistic creativity are 1) compassion (without it, the acting professional will not resonate with the character), 2) ability to be in the zone quickly while filming, 3) skills to totally comprehend the character, 4) truly believing in the character, 5) total dedication to acting, 6) natural talents, 7) being an artist at heart, 8) versatile, multifaceted, 9) capability to totally separate oneself from the character once the filming is done, 10) intelligence and 11) purity of mind. Furthermore, Cheng Yi does seem to work harder than almost anyone I know or have heard of. Now, the answer to this question is obvious at least to me (How many of his counterparts do you think have this extraordinary ability to do powerful secondary creation of their characters?). That is one of the reasons that all these directors, authors or producers want Cheng Yi for these roles. That is why just having a good script may not have the same outcome as Mysterious Lotus Casebook has now. That is why Cheng Yi is not duplicable. That is why I always say the rankings and comparisons are meaningless. In my book, you have Cheng Yi, a superb performing artist, and other actors or good actors in his entertainment world. It is impossible to duplicate Cheng Yi in his entertainment world. Those with compassion can especially tell the difference between Cheng Yi's performance and others. I think the author said it better than whoever said he is a Xi Chi (not sure the exact meaning but could get it). I do not know the exact meaning of "Ta Fang" either. I agree with the author. The reasons Cheng Yi will not do anything that is disgraceful has more to do with who Cheng Yi is as a human being. Cheng Yi is a marvel because he has so many contradictory qualities all at once that you would not see in others. Here are some examples: He seems to be energetic but also quiet and calm; driven but non-competitive; down-to-earth but also romantic; casual, simple but so refined; charming but oblivious of his own charm; gentle but with so much inner strength; mature and playful all at once; manly and boyish at the same time; sophisticated but simultaneously pure, innocent; serious but funny as well. He also appears to be honest, genuine, considerate, kind, generous, respectful, courteous, appreciative, non-judgmental, unassuming, modest, hardworking, and tenacious. He seems to be a gentleman with compassion and high integrity, and keeps every promise made. He does not seem to be good at making flowery speech but his simple words are full of wisdom. He is a gentleman of few words (at least in public) but every word he says gives me food for thought. He appears to love his family dearly. His presence seems to bring a positive aura. He appears to bring the best out of those who understand him. He gives credit to every staff member for his own success. He seems to be generous with everyone who works with him in any capacity or supports him in any way (fans, colleagues etc.) and never seems to take them for granted. How can such an angel do anything that is beyond the pale?
