So...I lost two locs from over crocheting but I love the overall look! My advice: Crocheting your locs with a little sharp needle will rip, tear and eventually weaken the integrity of the loc so, if you're going to combine your locs, take your time and crochet them juuust enough so that they're trained to grow together. Good luck!

I thickened up my afrolocs with a crochet needle. It's not ideal but I like the look. Better to grow them thick when they're budding.

Hi Ingrid, I'm almost 3 years in no oil. Hair is healthy
Fantastic! Thank you for posting your success. Folks need to read it. Wishing you continued success and lots of fun.
Hi Ingrid , I was inpatient and twisted my hair. I comb the locks out and I went back to freeform its much easier. Thanks you.
Hi there. Free form locs teaches us how to be patient. The key is to embrace and enjoy every stage of growth while staying motivated by looking at images of the vision. Good luck. Thank you for your comment 👍🏽
Hi Ingrid! It's always inspiring to have an update from you. I have sisterlocks started at the end of 2017 which I have managed more or less by myself since. I've combined them to make them microlocks over the years and have been playing with not retightening anymore as I dont really like the gappy scalp look and never have. But after a few months I give in and retighten. After feeling recently that I want to cut it and leave it as a twa, I soon changed my mind and left it as is. I do believe I will let it become semi-freefrom, stop the retightening and only separate after washing. I know that will give me the full look I've always wanted but not been able to quite achieve so far. Thanks as always for your encouragement for us to continue to learn to see the beauty in our uniqueness ❤️
You are welcome. Transitioning to semi free form from micro locs is similar to transitioning to natural hair from relaxed hair. The roots are going to look full and puffy and the micro locs are going to look a bit straggly. There's no way around this unless you cut off the 'perm' and start over or else, you can rock the two different 'textures' or you can cut it off and start over. Either way, embrace the in-between stage. Thank you for leaving a comment and for sharing your story. We all appreciate it. Good luck!
Your hair is lovely. I’m 7.5 year at in with trad locs. I really wanted to freeform but my roots grow away from my locs so I have to retwist regularly. I tried to freeform once. I didn’t retwist for 3 months and my locs got really thin at the roots and I had to interlock them to keep them from breaking off.
Thank you very much. 4C hair is kinky and designed to interlock by itself without any kind of manipulation whatsoever. The locs will form where it’s ideal for them to do so. Your natural style is built into the process it just takes a while to show up. I separate my locs because I like to style them. It’s the most fun I’ve had foreal.
Ingrid!!! Was just thinking of you the other day!so happy you are well and thank you for posting 🤍 We appreciate you❤️😘
Aww thank you so much for thinking of me, sis! I appreciate you too. All the best!
@@ingridfromtoronto You are so very welcome my sister! Thanks my dear!
It looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Woohooooooo!!! Thank you!!!
Iv been following your no conditioner, no oil, method, and loving it. How would you deal with dandruff though, cos I'm noticing that in my hair right now
I'm glad you're loving the no oils ever method. Good for you. It's the easiest and most ideal approach for managing 4C/4D locs. You might want to try using Nizoral Anti Dandruff shampoo from any drugstore. It has a chemical called ketoconazol 1% and it works. I suggest you dilute a little bit in a squeeze bottle and apply it that way. You don't need a lot and it smells good too. Good luck!
@@ingridfromtoronto thank you so much! I'm in South Africa, hopefully I can find it.
Hi Ingrid! I always appreciate your videos. I'm nearly a year and a half in by now and I'm really happy with it. It's magical how our hair seems to get better with every wash. I made it past when the hair was really short and while it's still short it's way more defined into individual locks now. Thanks for your inspiration!
Fantastic! Good for you! It's true, the locs will look better and better the more you wash it. It is truly magical. Soon I'm going to post another video with my hair straight. Wait 'till you see it.....it's so long! All the best and thank you for posting.

Hi,Ingrid, it’s so good to see you once again. Your hair looks great.
Hello my dear. Thank you so much. All the best to you.
Good day Ingrid, love your bantu knots style. I have been following your lock journey and you were my inspiration for starting my two and half year old locks. I note that your locks are very black. How do you keep them black and not turning brown as you are not an advocate for dying?
Good day friend. Thank you for your comment. I'm glad to know that my videos continue to inspire you. In fact, most of my locs are a dark brown. They only look black on camera. I do like the natural tint though. When I'm in the sun, they look really brown. I imagine that keeping them wrapped or staying indoors is the only way to keep them black. Dying them black is cool but then you have to keep doing it and that's no fun. All the best to you.
@@ingridfromtoronto thank you for the advise, much appreciated. I was thinking my melanin is failing me😂😂. I do not want to dye them, but I guess the natural brown tint is how the locks mature overtime as they will now and then be exposed to the sun.
@@ikhontuqamata8826 Indeed. You are welcome.

Fantastic. I feel the same way. Thank you for your comment. Enjoy! 🎉
Please, I want to know if you just wash and separate or do you make any type of maintenance on your locs every few months? Thank you in advance.
@@monchit3728 Hello. Thank you for your posting your question. All I do with my locs is wash and separate them. I use shampoo from the health food store (no harsh chemicals that strip the hair) and NO conditioner or oils of any kind EVER. This type of hair doesn't require any maintenance other than washing once a week and going through them to remove any fluff - which takes all of 2 or 3 minutes. It's the best hair and the most fun I've ever had.
Yay! I have been missing you, queen! But I know you are super busy with life!🫂💞 You look beautiful as always!!! Have a blessed and wonderful day and week!!!

Awww...thank you so much! It's great to be back!
I am discovering that Breaking past a limiting mindset of what my hair should look like goes far beyond whether it's chemically treated or has extensions. I thought that just by wearing my fro I would have arrived, but the mindsets that my hair was wrong or needed to be fixed extended into my natural hair as well. We have so much language around grooming hair ,codes that inform how we should wear it, having it done, getting it fixed, fresh, tammed, manicured, sculpted, polished, sleek, neat, in place). On my journey to heal and deconstruct all of this .❤
Good for you for realizing that we have to break through a deeply ingrained mindset. It's tricky because a lot of producers and hair salon owners rely on us to stay thinking this way. If everyone with 4C hair loc'd it or just used DAX in their loose hair like the old days, lots of people would go out of business.
Our hair truly is magical ❤
Indeed. If only we knew magical it really is.
I love the way you caress your hair

Aww. Love you too.
I have restarted my journey multiple times, because the reality of you don't need to do anything to your hair has been so foreign to me. I have been loose natural for decades and I thought I had truly and fully embraced all that is my natural hair. The loc journey has proven that I am but a baby when it comes to this journey. Going to continue pushing myself, because I believe the freedom is worth it. Love seeing your journey ❤
Indeed. We all have so much to learn about ourselves. Thank you for posting your comment sis. I appreciate it. All the best and good luck! ❤

New video soon come!
You keep advising on this... 🥲 I need to stop even with the few drops, ne? I am assigning myself with that experiment. Just water.
If you have kinky afro hair and you want soft, fluffy, bouncy locs that blow in the wind, then I recommend you don't use any oils ever. None. No conditioner either. This hair doesn't need anything at all. Just shampoo and that's it.
Hi Ingrid! Thanks for sharing 🌸this was informative. I am 9months in on the Loc journey, I use few drops of castor oil (the drops mixed in water i keep on a spray container)... stress free hey. I also started on no meal/animal products eating plan... Although my skin is breaking out, I am monitoring it. Otherwise, I needed to ask if you've ever uploaded a video where you show directly how you separate your hair? I am semi-free lock'd.
Hi sis! Thank you for the comment. I'm glad my videos are helpful. You don't need any oil at all. Oil dries your hair out. Afro kinky hair doesn't need it. Just pull the locs apart if they start to marry at the root. It's easiest when the hair is wet or damp. Remove all red meat and especially milk and milk products like cheese from your diet for 30 days. I'll bet your acne clears up. Your body is speaking to you. Good luck!
I can tell you love your hair journey and the results you have achieved with God’s blessings Thank you for sharing your story/journey Very inspiring I love seeing the beginning of your journey until present
Thank you so much for your comment. This is the best decision I have ever made. I'm glad you're inspired by my journey. That's exactly why I post these vids. God bless and all the best.
Apple cider vinegar is a vegetable acid that does not belong in the hair! Because it has nothing to neutralize it it keeps working even after you rinse it out and therefore eats away at your hair shaft causing a hair shaft disorder. 🤷🏾♀️ Beautiful crown Ingrid. ❤
Yes indeed. You are so right. All we need is a gentle shampoo and no oils ever.
❤ very nice story
Thank you very much
I'm watching this three years out from when you posted this video. Your hair is beautiful in this video so I can only imagine what it must look like now!! I'm 65 and have only had my locs for nine months and have 2b hair. I struggle with itchy scalp so I do use Jojoba oil on my scalp. Really appreciated your video . Great info!
Thank you very much! My goal is waist length and I'm at midback now. This is the most fun I've ever had with my hair. There are so many lessons I've learned about myself throughout this journey. I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling with itchy scalp. I found that using oil will irritate the scalp and dry out your locs too. Oils are not at all necessary. Good luck my dear!
@@ingridfromtoronto may I ask what are your thoughts on rose water. I use it once in awhile and that helps quiet the itching but then I notice a buildup on my scalp. Anyway, I took would love to think I could get my dreads to my waist length, but having started so late in life... we'll see 🤭
@@wandacraig8286 Our hair is it's own technology. It doesn't require any sort of oil or infused water. The only product I use is a shampoo from the health food store and that's it. Sometimes it gets scented with whatever perfume I'm wearing but it's not intentional. If you are experiencing irritation, the best approach is to stop using anything unnecessary and let your hair and scalp rebalance itself.
@@ingridfromtoronto thank you so much. I will try it and see how I respond.
