    Given the game was made in a year, little things like crash in a vehicle missing a specific redesign makes a lot of sense. Not that that justifies the abundance of vechile levels or their awful controls... Also WoC feeds directly into Twinsanity not Nitro Kart...

    I think I had never seen anyone criticizing Crash 2 before you. I don't think you're wrong like other commenters do, though. I've always liked Crash 2 since I was a child, but there was still something off, something I couldn't exactly pinpoint... but YOU did! You definitely described a lot of the flaws that this game sadly has. I still think Crash 2 is very fun, but yeah, too many recycled levels and anticlimactic boss fights were... not exactly exciting. I used to play it all the time during my childhood and I've recently bought the remake and experienced it again, and as an adult those flaws became more obvious. The N.Gin fight especially made me think "man, this is so weird and boring compared to his fight in Warped' lol. Thank you for the detailed retrospective, I'll gladly watch the other ones, too!

    Papu's Pyramid and Sewer Speedway are like two of the best tracks in the game if you actually use the drift boosting mechanics. When you update this video do me a solid and play the time trials. Watch Ntropy's ghost. You will see where all the risk and reward is. The shortcuts in this game are exponentially more impactful than any shortcut in mario kart. Most of the tracks you take issue with are the ones where paying attention to the environment is the most important.

    @MetalMephiles9000 Před měsícem

    I have a lot of disagreements with the video. I think it'd be a good idea to check out Time Trial mode for a bit - there are N. Tropy and Oxide ghosts that might be able to reveal some new strats on certain stages. Papu's Pyramid is one of the most dynamic tracks in the game, and Blizzard Bluff has some big shortcuts that easily save time. Even in Hot Air Skyway and Oxide Station, you can boost through just about the entire race by making effective use of the power slide. Coco Park is actually a great place to practice the powerslide, since the road is so wide and the turns are so gentle. The reason many players love this game so much is that you're more in control of your speed. In something like Mario Kart, for most of the race you're only going as fast as your straight line top speed. Snaking existed in older games, but that was more about mashing in a way that promises to break your joystick; and in later Mario Kart titles, drift boosts are determined more by how long the drift is than anything, to make snaking less effective. CTR's drift boosts and reserve system are something I haven't seen from any other kart racer, since it's more rhythmic, and you're rewarded for being consistent with it by being able to boost the whole way. It means that the game's innate mechanics allow for a really high skill ceiling in ways that aren't present in other kart racers.

      I can see and understand your points. My retrospectives are typically from a "beginner" viewpoint, like I'm picking up a game for the first time. If I wanted to deep dive and get truly skilled at a game, I typically will, but Crash doesn't have that effect on me

    Man I don't want to be rude, but your "retrospective" on this game are as bad or even worse as your driving skills on this game. Your are playing CTR like is a F***ing Mario kart game. You don't use the drifting mechanics which are made for the player to go really fast and get every turn on every track without any problem. A casual player can easily learn the drifting mechanics in this game. The game explains it to player when they win there fifth or sixth trophy, but I guess you skipped the aku aku or uka uka talks... And if my guessing is right you played this game just one time, you haven't even tried to 100% the game by getting the relicts or even tried to understand the game and it's main mechanics. All you did is making shallow critics about how the tracks don't resemble enough the levels from Crash B. 1,2 and 3 which is utter nonsense. It's a racing game and the focus is on the quality of the tracks and speed, not how much similarity it should have with his platformer predecessors. Sorry for being so direct, but it's obvious that you are bias towards Mario Kart 64. Yes they both are Kart races but they excel at different things. All that I ask from you is to pay more respect for the games that you do a "retrospective" on and try to understand the games and there mechanics.

    • @TheFogFrog
      @TheFogFrog Před měsícem

      On the contrary. I am of the firm belief that Mario Kart 64 is the lesser karting game to come out that generation. CTR offered a hub world and an actual story and a lot of notable characters to play as, along with actual character interaction and cutscenes. By all accounts, CTR IS the superior karting game for the N64/PS1 generation. The only other kart game that I could feel hold a candle to CTR is Diddy Kong Racing, which offered the exact same things that CTR did, with numerous hub worlds, a story, and familiar characters returning. It would be hard for me to say MK64 was a good game for its time. Was it a good game for Mario fans? Sure, just like CTR was a good game for Crash fans, and DKR was a good game for DK/DKC fans. In terms of my "shallow critiques", I feel it's important for me to note that ALL of my retrospectives are done through the eyes or lens of someone who has NEVER played these games before. Yes I played CTR as a child, but I was also a young child who remembered very little of the game when I revisited 20 years later, so realistically speaking, I WAS playing it for the first time. While I do agree that Aku Aku/ Uka Uka tell you about the drifting system, that is completely on me for missing. I primarily stream all of the gameplay over on Twitch, so there was a very high chance I was responding to someone during the cutscene and I missed it. I appreciate you being direct, it's the only way for someone to take criticism on board, and I will take it on board. Just keep in mind that realistically I am JUST starting out with retrospectives, and my ability to analyse and study will get better as time goes on.

The last Emperor to also hold the title of Pharaoh was Maximinus Daza, who reigned from 310-313. I think it's entirely possible that the Egypt levels and Tiny's boss battle could take place around the same era, and Cortex simply was enthroned as the Caesar and Pharaoh.

    Your critique of the "cutscenes" (from 5:48 to 6:06) is odd, because like...that's just the developers adding more life and personality to the game/story? It would feel so sterile if every time a character spoke, it was ONLY to serve some technical purpose.
