Michael is available for online lessons via Zoom, and 'in person' & remote session work.
Pick up 'The Michael Gregory Band - Guitarchitecture' to hear more of Michael's amazing guitar playing.
To demonstrate the absolute noise levels of all of the amps in this series, no noise reduction or noise gates were used. No EQ or compression was added during the mixdown. You are hearing the raw, unprocessed sound of these amps (except for the horrible audio compression that the CZcams bots thought would sound good).
Michael Gregory had no idea what guitar amps he was going to demonstrate when he walked into the studio the day of 'filming', so if you see him fumbling around with the controls, these were his natural first reactions.
SIGNAL CHAIN:
Guitarist: Michael Gregory
Guitar: Fender Telecaster (Mexican) w/ Seymour Duncan Antiquity (50's era PAF replicas) humbucker pickups.
Amp: Rock Amps - Studio Lead
Guitar Amp Recording Chain: Senheisser MD409 → API 312 Mic Pre → Neve 1073 (EQ bypassed). (No signal processing was applied during mixdown)
Michael's Lavalier Microphone: Audio Technica MT830R. This microphone blended with the guitar amp mics and provided a little bit of ambience. We chose to leave Michael's narration a tad bit low, as to not create an overabundance of ambiance, and also chose to leave this microphone unprocessed, without EQ and compression.
Patrick's Microphone: Shure SM7b (this mic was completely ducked by the guitar amp mic to keep the quantity of mics to a minimum while you hear Michael playing)

Have one that's been sitting in bedroom closet for over 60 years. It it worth anything? Thanks J.R.
There is a girth to the 5150 clean sound that nothing else has. Sounds fantastic with a Strat as well.
great test, in fact the best one i have found. Finally somebody doing a proper test for people like me who knows nothing as looking for a friend as a practice/home amp etc as a gift. Been looking at this amp for a while trying to get a non bias opinion and finally found you guys. Thank you for finally making my mind up. I will follow you as my number 1 music equipment guys. Lovely playing.
Finally! A demo on this amp that isn't CHUGCHUG. Great demo, great playing. I will have to try some of those settings and see what I like.
Here’s a question what amp is that?
At Min: 12:00 you dialed the eq settings of Ed, as pictured in the commercial depliant. And It started to sing... I had that same amp, sold for a Evh 5150 III, It was not the same. The combo Is a great amp but too heavy. I Wish to have It profiled with a kemper with those eq settings...
This is my favorite example along with that other video of the guy who shows off the 5150 with his strat. This amp is a clean machine, so many things to get it pristine too. I just throw a mxr 10 in the loop, a delay and it's chimey as heck. Just can't pick so hard XD Michael understands this as exampled by his amazing playing.
Subscribed immediately! You did an awesome Demo there, guys! Nice Content
saw a blues guy use one of these and was insane. tones all over the map, beautiful feedback
Great amp!!
Great playing and that old amp has character
This just popped in my feed. I’m spending all night with my OG 5150 Head and 4 x 12 angled cab
Germanium transistors are somethin' else...I converted a '60s GE stereo with germanium transistors into an amp, and it has a character unlike any of my actual guitar amps, tube or solid state, the breakup is like a built-in boutique dirt pedal
Good demo, thx
Hi, i have the 15 w version with just 1 jack entry and one xlr entry, i need to mix the microphone connected to this amp with guitar pedals connected to this amp, what device do i need and how does it connect? thanks in advance

What’s that lick at 11:40 from? I’ve heard it so many times
Magic Man by Heart
I had one of these back in the days and its one of the very few amps I regret selling.
Excellent guitar playing! I have to pick up an Acoustasonic Amp. Liked and Subbed
Beautiful playing. I found a Kay 700 for sale just now and found your video. Very helpful.
An aby switch and some reverb 👍
Great demo
Had a very similar sounding 'Sears/National' amp some years back but traded it for some drum equipment. Going to be on the lookout for another soon.
Really enjoy this gents vocabulary in describing and defining the qualities of how the amp feels and sounds. Really made alot of sense. Good work guys
11:10
I had a bias pot fitted to mine because they're biased quite cold from the factory, probably to prolong valve life. So biased to a more normal setting it sounds so much better, kinda brings it to life . Volume wise it's as loud as my satriani head through a 67 Marshall 4x12...impressive!
Interesting, I've seen most people say the old combos were actually biased quite warm, especially compared to the heads, and that bias mods are unecessary for combos. Is yours an old peavey 5150 or one of the EVH's?
@jamieperry3731 it's the old 5150 . Yeh I've used both and preferred the combo . I've gigged both 30 years now there was a noticeable difference after the bias mod was done in a good way.. I agree the head version would probably show a bigger improvement, but you don't know till you try.
I got one of these and need a schematic. Any help?
When you start playing RUSH I fell off my chair... Genius
I guess now we know Senheisser MD409 is the mic for the Sheffield Speaker. I also love how Micheal EQ's with his ears and Im 100% certain the player has something to do with the superb sound :)
Yea! You sold one dude😂thanks
When he "opened up the treble a little bit" while plugged into the normal channel, did it do anything? I'm not familiar with the TBX models, but with the AC30 I have, the EQs are not active for the normal channel at all, only the cut works.
Stock speakers? Great demo!
Absolutely the best demo of this amp! Great job, Michael! Thank you!
A šta ako uključim akustičnu gitaru u pojačalo za električnu? Može li to da radi?
Gallagher jams!!!
Wow, that guy can play! The amp sounds amazing, but I think Michael Gregory would make sound any amp like heaven.
Scuse me, lol, I have to go practice now. I have one of these amps had it for many years. Hardly use it. But I won't sell it . I use a Marshall DSL 40 CR for practice and I use a Marshall 410H full stack. This 5150 is so heavy. Its a beast! Wheels help out a lot. The sound is awesome. Thanks guys appreciate it.
I know by listening Michael can play anything.
More cluck for your buck, I almost fell out of my chair! Excellent playing, great amp, I could listen to this all day! Thank-you for putting this out for us!
...Really, It's named "ACOUSASONIC" for a reason.
man those 5150s will put hair on your nuts
By far the best demo of any amp I've seen , and damn great playing too.
They are reliable work horses luv my amp plug it into a old Marshall cab sounds amazing
Heard Eddie and some others preferred the combo to the head. Some say combo is more aggressive. And better cleans...
That tiny little amp is a monster! For its size.👍
I'm really glad you did this with the regular electrics. Demos/reviews with acoustic guitars are easy to find, but with standard electrics not so much. So this was exactly what I was looking for as I'm not interested in playing acoustic guitar, unless it's an arch top, or a semi. To my ear everything sounded fantastic. Great clean sound for jazz, and loved the Run To You riff! And when you got it to break up it also sounded great, so I'm guessing it probably takes pedals pretty well too for crunch/distortion at lower volumes. Fantastic job. So if you want to busk with a regular electric rather than an acoustic, or just sing and play for home practice, and have just one amp for both guitar and mic, then this sounds like it would be a viable option. Great job on showing off this little amp with regular guitars. Wish more people would do the same!
No, it doesn't take overdrives and distortions well at all because of the Tweeter. It's about projection, not saturation. Modulation and time-based effects it goes well with, though.
I love mine as well. I hardly ever use the Red channel. And I am a metal guy! Green channel with a boost is sick.
This was my first tube amp. I've had it for 26 years now. Great demo.. Killer.. Killer playing!
Amps like the SLO, 5150, DR do much better through more balanced speakers like Eminence Legends (stock on all SLO products for 30 years) or Celestion Classic Lead 80s, than V30s.
That cat can play
