Making a quilling effect on cake
I used Gum Paste instead of paper and attached the sugar pieces to the cake with edible sugar glue before they set fully.

Open book cakes are great to personalise. Wafer paper pages and decorations can be made ahead of time. I began with an 8" square cake.

Hi what is the ingredients you used to make the book? Could you kindly share the recipe
I used a recipe from a book called "Cakes to Inspire and Desire" by Lindy Smith. 12" square Madeira cake = unsalted butter 1kg, caster sugar 1kg, self-raising flour 1kg, plain (all purpose) flour 500g, eggs 18, bake time (at 160C/325F/Gas 3) 2-2 and half hours.

What sugar paste do you use and how do you keep it from drying out? I’m having a time perfecting fondant 😢
I like this one from Renshaw www.renshawbaking.com/gb/products/premium-white-cover-paste/ I have also used supermarket brand sugar paste with good results. I slice pieces off and keep it wrapped in its packaging, wrapped in clingfilm, in an air tight container. I place it under an upturned glass/cup or silicone mat to stop it drying out while working with it. All the best 😀

I don't see why not, I have never tried it, it may work well.

You could, but may need to add your own raising agents.
In my country i cant find flexi icing Will royal icing work for the net?
It would be very fragile, depends how steady your hands are 🤷♀

I have done same... but it crumbled and became powdery.. how can I fix it?
Knead it a lot, it starts out very stiff and crumbly but gets softer the more you knead it. Can be hard to do with the whole amount so I break off smaller pieces to do a bit at a time then I can knead it all together. Or sometimes I overmix it when adding the ingredients and this can make it too brittle to use and it won't come together no matter how much I try.

Why do you use marzipan before fondant icing?
It tastes nice with cake and icing.
