Covid Distractions 3D
Some early experiments with a small 3D printer - many results initially quite small but progressed to some larger models - just a selection of results, though nowhere near all. Many stl files were found on the web and most slicing was done using the free "MatterControl" program which also provides primitives that allow some useful creativity.

Quick Spacers

A friend wanted two simple 3/16" non-critical aluminum spacers for 3/4" shaft. Lathe temporarily out of action so can't chuck mount and part off - instead, used a bandsaw option utilizing a small fixture plate to hold a very short piece of tube. ( www.oldmansshop.com/ )

In the absence of fresh material - yet again we do a cheat - condensing down clips from the original project, which was about 3 years ago. Originally made in early 2016, here is another 'cheat', a much shortened down version. Have used the most useful clips out of about 60, which also gets rid of a lot of waffle! - most aspects have been shortened and/or speeded up, with voice over to try and explain the process. Al V-Block for Welding Usage

Sometimes V-block type support is useful for welding work support but preferably without risking damage to a precision ground block, or blocks. The Al block also has a degree of heat sink usefulness. It is not a high precision item and is made to be used as either a one piece unit or by unbolting into two separate equal halves for spacing apart. ( www.oldmansshop.com/ )

This unit from Banggood is a versatile and reasonable cost device suitable for most general electrical/electronics work in the shop, in particular where a waveform needs inspected. Evaluated most of the functions and results were generally very satisfactory - instruction booklet is most useful and helps explain the various function options. Quick Fix Spacer

Tried a different approach to making this simple piece to see if it was viable - using an annular cutter instead of a drill. Worked out fine for a quick low tolerance job. ( www.oldmansshop.com/ )

Something a bit different - turned some brass to create a piece approximating to required profile and used a graver for later stages of turning, followed by finishing. Hi Mark - well, age is making itself felt more and more these days so - hard to do much in the shop even when temps are viable. Just muddle along and enjoy watching a few videos here and there. Just coming up to 79th b'day - ouch. Hope all well with you. :)

People seem to like talking on videos....on and on....."ad-libbed" even.
You could use this tool for engraving dial graduations. Make 2 drop-in spacers of different thicknesses for the shaft (in between the stop collar and the body of the slider). Full stoke could mark the inch or Centimeter, drop in a thick spacer for the .5" or 5mm, and the thinner spacer for all the other graduations in between.

That's my Dad! He's still in operation. Unfortunately he doesn't have to big Monarch lathe he donated it to a tech school not far from us. He updated to a newer lathe that can handle larger center diameter. All other machines shown in video are still used. 😊

Hi - well, very similar but - here's some info - www.machineryhouse.com.au/M650 From what I can tell it is very close to mine but they say MT3 for spindle whereas mine takes R8. Also this one appears to allow tilt of head to 90 degrees from vertical. This one too seems to have a side piece which would act as a quill depth stop - I made one for mine. All in all, most other features are about same.... quite a versatile small scale mill.

Wish it was that easy! My problem is very long term and chronic such that mobility is impaired badly and standing not easy for long. The more I fight it, the worse it'll get. All best.

Hi Martin - the cutter is one from a small set of annular cutters. I forget where they came from - possibly Banggood - very nice cutters for certain jobs. I eventually made a proper holder for these and may have mentioned more info about them here - czcams.com/video/MagqM6PCz1w/video.html

Vince Smith using his wifes computer, I just had to comment, I once had some parts case hardened here in Australia a long time ago and wiped my face as I received the parts, Don't do that said the old engineer, its got cyanide on it, he used a product called hardite. I felt I had to check the stuff you didn't mention for your product and the list potassium cyanide and sodium cyanide, so users beware.
I grew up in Bedford and Mann's Choice BHS Class of 1973...
I am very fond of the town - and once spring comes and the trees get leaves it looks even better :)
