I dod not think graded books are the way to go. Buy raws, but know how to check for a grade you want. Better deals and alot of people online undergrade their raw comics.😊
Thanks for the comment Starchad. In my experience, folks tend to be too loose with their grades with raw books. But if you are having success, go for it!!
Great contacts you have, keep up the good content thanks
Thanks, Jesse. Rick was super accommodating.
Another great video. Fantastic books.
Appreciate it, Chris!
Nice video!
Thank you, VV!
Over 60 years old and still look brand new. Incredible copies!
Thanks, Derek. Definitely some pristine copies. They looked amazing in person.
Can’t believe an FF4 9.6. So those older labels are usually considered to be graded less “harshly” right? I wonder if you cracked-resubmit could it get a 9.8? Or would that be too risky? 😅😅. I had thought also those older comic slabs have to be replaced due to degradation of the case ? Like every 10 years or so?
Good questions. Some of the older collectors will say that CGC graded more harshly back in the day. Tough to say. I know that in the early days, very few books were pressed, which of course makes a difference with grades too. Regarding how often a book should be re-slabbed, that’s a great question. I don’t know the answer. Will research that.
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 I think I read on CGC forums that CGC recommended every 10 years actually. But it was debatable depending on climate temp himidity storage of the books over that 10 years. Also someone had mentioned it has to do with the “archival paper” wearing out which absorbs gasses from the paper That all being said I think it’s ok to not slab every 10 years because there’s some books that were stored for many decades in worse conditions and came out w high grades 🤷♂️
That AF 15 looks like a reprint right off the shelf. 😮😮😮😮
Yeah, it’s really nice!
🤩
Keston, I'm curious what brought you to meet with them at their office. Just an interview or are you selling off some of your collection?
Hi Shane! Good question. I was on a work trip in Dalllas. My hotel was just a few mins away from Heritage, and Rick was kind enough to meet with me. Hopefully you and I can meet up one of these days.
Love how you zoomed in as he was talking about the smell 😂 Fantastic Books
Haha. Thanks HazelDan. Yeah, I enjoy the smell too but it is a funny part of the hobby!

Wow...incredible books. Also, is this the first time we've seen you without the hat?!?!?!
Thanks Wahoo! There was one other no-hat appearance…not many :-)
Howdy K ! Click bait, you got me. I thought you made some big moves. Ha ! Peace
Hi, Tom. Wasn’t trying to fool ya. Maybe I could get the css 22 if I sold some of my other books. I am afraid the other two are out of my league!
Not the ugly AF-15 again! 😂
Haha. Good one Rocket :-)
The close-up of AF-15 reminded me of something - there are borderless bands of white color trailing behind Spider-Man to serve as motion lines. But there are no inked motion lines. Offhand, I don’t recall seeing that effect used on other Marvel covers from the ‘60s.
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 At least it's not as ugly as FF #1.
Not one to play the lotto often, but if I won... yeah, that would be how you know I did.
Haha. Yeah, I've got a similar fantasy. I'm like...If I won $50 million, how much would I spend on comic books. It would be over $25 million, I can tell you that much :-)
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 oh. AF 15, Action #1, Detective 27, 29, 31, FF 1, X Men 1, list goes on
Beautiful pedigree
Thanks, AK. Yeah, some ball'n books for sure.
love your videos @keston
Appreciate it, Fady!
Enjoy the conversation and stories about the books you show. Wolud love to have a Punch 12
Thanks, Jesse. Truly one of the best comics in the hobby.
There’s a pretty good argument to be made that Marvel’s Black Panther was inspired/informed by the character Lion Man in All-Negro Comics issue 1. Grab a genuine or reprint copy of Fantastic Four 53 with the Panther origin story, pull up a copy of ANC issue 1 on a public domain comic website and consider… Lion Man is a college-educated African who guards a sacred mountain made of uranium, which is sought by treasure-hunters. One of the villains in the Lion Man story, Brosser the Beachcomber, looks exactly like Klaw in FF 53 - lean face, hawk nose, chin-strap beard, pith helmet. There’s a panel in the Lion Man story that shows kid sidekick Bubba operating a tripod-mounted machine gun. In FF 53 there’s a panel with similar composition that shows the young T’challa operating Klaw’s sound gun. To the best of my knowledge, no one in the mainstream comics media has ever explored this topic. Pity.
That is fascinating! I’ll have to look into that story!
Thanks, glad to see I’ve piqued your interest. For years I’ve been planning to put together a quasi-scholarly essay with all the specific page and panel numbers and so forth, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
I wonder how many millions of dollars are sitting right there..?
More than 1, that’s for sure.
John 3:16
A lot of his issues with Marvel come down to Stan Lee honestly and his approach which has validity to it especially with dialogue Stan Lee was absolutely terrible with dialogue it's folksy approach always reads as someone who never heard people talk.
Haha. I actually like Stan’s style but could see what you mean.
😊😊😊
Great video and books. Very informative. Thanks Keston
Thanks, Chris!
Nice books. But I want to see what the Heritage Fantastic Four 1 9.6 goes for on Sept 15 2024
Hi Anthony. FF 1 9.6 is the biggest book this fall for sure. As you might know, ff1 is tough in grade. Only 2 9.6s, none higher.
@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 oh yes I know. I have been in the game a long time. The first FF 1 I purchased was back in 1979 for 150 bucks. The latest one I purchased was a coverless for 2400. A lot has changed in 45 years.
@@anthonypidone4453 Awesome. Yeah, different times. I've been talking to a few folks who started collecting comics in the '50s, '60s, and '70s. A few zeroes have been added to the prices since then. HAHA!
Content always interesting. Very informative about Golden Age books.
Thanks Roy! Definitely some cool, obscure golden age books that Vincent pulled.
Captain America fun facts: Writer and creator Joe Simon initially named him Super American but decided there were too many supers around and no captains. He named Bucky after Bucky Pierson, his friend on his high school basketball team. MLJ Comics complained about Cap's triangular shield because it resembled the chest symbol on their Shield character so it was changed to a round shield in issue #2.
Hi, Rocket! NIce trivial pulls, there. I'm glad Joe Simon went the Capt America route! Hadn't heard about Bucky Pierson. That's awesome.
Man, wish I could afford that Flash comics #1! Such an underrated book!
Appreciate it, Kid. Perhaps even more underrated is Flash #2. It's the first full cover appearance of Hawkman. I think of it like Sensation Comics 1, but it's far rarer!
Very excited for this auction. I'm watching 30 books.
Thanks, Shane. One of the "problems" with doing these videos is I see SOOO many books I need to have. There are about three, which will remain nameless, that I will go after aggressively :-). I hope you end up with a few you are going after!
@@kestonsoldschoolcomicbooks6842 7/30 are watched out of curiosity. Around 15 are books I'd buy at the right price. 5+ are books I'd pay close to FMV for. Only a couple I'd say I'll go after aggressively. Good luck on your books. Hopefully they aren't the same as mine haha
Haha. No doubt. The Ruben Blades collection is amazing. You know me, I'm a rarity freak and a cover freak. And, Ruben has both in spades :-)
One of my favourite videos! All those great GA covers. Makes me wish I didn't stop collecting comic books.
Thanks, VV. I thought you would like this one :-)
Great video!! We thought that was your Daring Mysteries. It has such a great color strike. Tough book to give up, but we also know what you're getting is worth it.
Hazeldan! Thank you, my friends. It was tough to give up but like you said...I think it's worth it. It may be a month or two or three before I get the book in hand.
Great video - good books
Thanks, JSS. Appreciate the love :-)
You guys are three of my favs- glad to see you together. So much knowledge on this video…

Thanks for the quality comic videos Keston does not disappoint.
Thanks, MB. Glad you liked the video. Vincent definitely brought the firepower.
TY I liked and subbed!
Thanks, Chris. Appreciate your leaving a comment and subbing!
I see Action Comics 23 is shown as the first Luthor. Interesting.
Yeah, it’s a cool book. I like the old-school cover too!
Could watch this dude all day.
You and me both :-)
This just goes to show that CGC is absolute trash. They don’t do their jobs correctly. They damage peoples books and offer a slap in the face credit. They don’t grade consistently. They are losing lawsuits because they are scum bags.
Waiting 🫡 🔥. Love that FF1
Thanks, MB. The golden age selection is even sweeter!
I like when kids wrote their names on books 50+ years ago.
I am partial to them as well. A more innocent time of comic collecting.
This guy as a kid didnt like Spidey and his origin? Huh? DC stories were sooooo dumb! Well each to their own i guess.
Hi Doc…yeah it’s funny to me too. But I get it…he grew up with the dc books for his 1st five years of collecting. The Marvel style must have been unsettling. I grew up with the Marvel style…so I just thought that was the way comic should be written :-)
this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. this old man is completely stupid.
Though I love hearing Gary’s stories and perspective, I respectfully disagree with his opinion on AF15. I think it’s great, even though the color scheme isn’t the best.
Hi, Kenny. I like the cover too….but brown was a weird choice. Hadn’t thought about it until Gary brought it up.
FF1 cover is gorgeous. He is right about AF15. Completely respect this man’s perspective regarding an escape from bullies, but Spider-Man is by far a more interesting character than any in DC. Some of those early Batman covers are chef’s kiss.
Thanks elescritor. Gary cracks me up. Personally, I like the covers but love hearing Gary’s opinion.
The Flash #168 is way worse.
I dared seek out that cover. You did not exaggerate.
Hi, Jason. You are right. Not exactly Infantino’s finest hour.
I was a marvel fan but Dc comics from 1967 to 1975 were awesome….Batman..horror comics and Jonah Hex being my favourite .
Great picks!
IMO, Spider-Man #1 is a worse looking cover than AF #15
I love ASM1 though I admit the cover is awkward.
I got a fever and the only cure is more cowbell!!!
Haha. The cowbell has produced quite a few miracles across the centuries :-)
ASM 32 and 33 are the best Marvel books of the silver age in my opinion! Coming from a former Marvel super fan to a last decade DC only collector.
33 gets more love but I checked out 32. Very nice cover. Thanks for the comment!
