can you imagine buying the 1250GSA and thinking to yourself i'll order those soon. gues what i droppped mine on the parking lot and it bend and damaged the valve cover. so i am thinking about replacing the cover and the crashbar
@@koen2062 I’m glad you first found my video and secondly will be heading the warning/advice. You can never go wrong with safety equipment.
Thanks for posting Stan I will order a set from Touratech for my 2024 GSA before I do any serious damage 👍 ride safe Amigo 😊Karl in Aussie 🇦🇺
@@karlwebb8914 Thanks for viewing and hopefully subscribing. Glad my advice with my misfortune could help others. I hope to get to the GSA Safari down under someday for some great Aussie Adventure Riding….SFA
Great video , nice to meet you today !
Sam…glad you found the channel….great talking / riding with you today….now get yourself an “Adventure Bike” and we can go on some really long treks…..SFA
Thx very nice review. Ordered a pair and waiting to try 😀 Greetings from Poland 👋
Thanks for watching….glad you enjoyed it. You wouldn’t happen to be going to the Giant Loop Festival would you….if so keep an eye out for me. Check out the short I made on the boots saving me from a broken ankle when my other bike…a KLR 650 fell on it. Boots maybe bulkier than others but I personally will deal with it for the protection level….SFA
Is it a narrow, wide or neutral width?
I find them to be very true to size and a natural width…..thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing….SFA
i think i'll be sticking to light weight bikes after hearing about how often heavy bikes get dropped lol
Get one of each, you're going to want something bigger when you're doing a long haul cross county trek.....
Late comment. Is it true to size?
Sorry for the late response....yes very true to size and still wearing great after two years plus.....
Thanks for this useful overview. One question about the back TKC70 rocks: it is compatible with the velocity index indicated on the circulation card that mention index "T" and "V" but not the index "S" of this tire?
Thanks for watching…I hope you subscribed. As for the S T and V index ratings. My guess is why mention the lower “S” index if the tire is rated for a higher speed. Also I didn’t go with both the “rocks” version front and back. Was the card you are referring to differentiating between the the “rocks” and non-rocks version (TKC 70) I’ll stick to the lower speed rating “T” which I believe is 118mph but I’m not planning on pushing these tires that fast anyway.
who knew it had so many parts. Can't wait for your next video
nice ride
Unfortunately, these have been discontinued. And the Forma Pilot Enduro that replaced them are too narrow.
Thanks for the info. But to be honest with you, I never was happy with the height of the toe box. I'll take a narrower / lower toe box any day....SFA
❤️ Promo>SM
The front tire makes a whistling noise around 49-51 mph and it wears out quickly (4k miles) compared to Missions
Did you visit RG?
Thanks Stan! How have the worked themselves in now that youve had them for a year? Im contemplating these as well!!
Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing. The boots are great all around. After a year plus now the soles are in great shape and I have used them off-road more than I should have. Honestly right out of the box the boots were not very stiff at all and after a short period of riding in them I would say they were broken in like a baseball glove. I polish them about twice a year to keep them looking newish. The lace on the one boot broke awhile back but that was an easy replace/fix. Get yourself a pair, they are worth the value and you'll love them......S.F.A.
Is this the ''no paint tank'' ?
Thanks for watching and hopefully subscribing. Yes, no paint on the tank. I believe a protective clear coat. There is a lot of plastic body components that cover most of the tank. I have considered getting the tank wrapped with a design and complementary color scheme......S.F.A.
@@StanForAdventure I asked because I hate stickers... it looks great!
Spot on! I have the same problem. Total of 4 falls/drops 2 on the left side and, crash bars are misaligned...
Sounds like your a dumbass 😂
Maybe you suck
Have you actually thought about the symmetry of the engine? You know that one piston is further forward than the other right? And that is why there is less gap between the crash bars and the engine cover.
Yes I know that and wish that was the case. In my attempts to bend the bent side back I took a lot or measurements at the dealer on an OEM. I hated myself for letting my situation happen before I added reinforcement. I wanted the bend Not To Be True. But sadly it was and that was the day I had to let go of the mindset that my bike was still in pristine condition. Thanks for the comment, I’m sure it will help others…S.F.A.
The OEM are useless, buy the Touratech 🤟🏻
It would have been useful to see them on.
It is not that the crashbars suck. The left and right cilinder are NOT exact parallel or exactly opposite each other. One is about 1 cm more to the front than the other. So the reinforced TT-bars can't be at the same position from the OEM-rubber. And to frustrate you a bit more... the rear wheel is a bit out of line too. And at last: brakepads are different in thickness left and right from the brakedisc. All of this it true.
all great info to know...thanks....S.F.A.
Take a look at the BMW bikes at the riding schools. RawHyde, BMW or TOURATECH. None of them have the support bar installed. If it bends just bend it back with a rubber mallet. I rather bend the crash bar than bend the frame
A lot of time right from the get go the schools put on beefier crash bars. The Touratech bars are a bit different in shape and I think a bit thicker. Regardless, I tried bending my OEM crash bars back into shape and trust me, it's a lot harder then you think. I tried both with the bars on the bike (you have to be careful not to ruin the valve cover or the gasket seal BTW) and also I tried with the bars off the bike. The trick there is that the bars attach to the bike at three points. It became very difficult to bend the bars back into the original position keeping those three connection points in spec. The slightest bend one way starts to shift those connection points and you end up chasing your tail. Just put on the reinforcements first or switch them out for an aftermarket upgraded crash bar. Thanks for the comment.....S.F.A.
Falling to the side from a standstill exerts more force on the crash bar than if you went down whilst moving.
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for sharing this. I want to try these at some point. Interested in how long they last. New Sub
Thanks for subscribing. From my research if you ride them the 60/40 they are rated at or maybe even a bit more off-road then the 40% you should get around 9,000 to 10,000 miles pretty easily. With a tire that has knobs though you have to keep them properly inflated when riding the pavement. So remember to air them back up if you air down for the dirt.
I when much more aggressive with the Tractionator tires. Not for everyone, but I love them. Yes Loud and vibrate the bike on the street but feel safe in the rain on pavement and OMG do the grip off road.
Yes, the Tractionator is at the top of the list if you spend a lot of time in the dirt. I predict you will not get a lot of milage out of them if you ride a fair amount on pavement. Good luck, thanks for the input.
Look forward to the videos. So much to talk about on the GSA
Thanks for talking about the shifting issue with boot's. BMW, I'm talking to you now. You gave us the wonderful quick adjust pad on the brake peddle. How about the same on the sifter. It's a pain to adjust back and forth from ADV and daily riding foot ware.
Good Point
Great overviews...as I decide to purchase my GSA sometime next year.
Thanks for watching, you will love the GSA.
Great run down...thanks
You're welcome, just trying to help the adventure community.
it that OEM crash bar doesn't bend, fame of your bike could get hurt ......
Good point I agree... but the drops that caused this bend were soooo minor in my opinion the bar should not have bent at all.
Is this design suitable for of road use? I don't think so with the engine sticking out sideways, the bike is too big and heavy to be dropped on the engine
Thanks for the comment
Benefit is it is so easy to pickup, much much much easier than my Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
Lower centre of gravity means you’re less likely to drop it in the first place. Also - watch Mongrel Dog Productions - he’s taken his GSA all over outback Australia - well past 120K. So yes. This is capable off road. GS means street on off road FYI.
I'm below 6'4 so the GSA isn't on my list for this reason.
How are you relating height to the lack of a crash bar reinforcement? Did you watch the video?
I have same story but on right side. will soon install reinforce.
Sorry to hear you had the same problem. I highly recommend reinforcement bars....tell your friends. Thanks for watching.
My left side is closer to the cylinder from factory. I think you probably didn’t bend it as much as you think . I just ordered the same reinforcement bars .
You are correct the one side is closer to the cylinder than the other.....but the both sides still bend to easily if you ask me.
@@StanForAdventure I just installed the tour tech reinforcement bars . I’m not to impressed on how they mount . You can move them by hand , don’t see how they will help in a drop
Indeed the Touratech reinforcement bars are 'a must have' on the bike. Same problemes had and after I have put them, had a crash and no bending was made!
Glad to hear that....thanks for sharing
Had my bike three weeks (2022 GSA)... My father went for a ride on it yesterday and dropped the bike at a standstill. Think he just laid the bike down slowly on its right side... I now have a bent crash bar on the right side (similar to yours). Going to replace with a new part and get the Touratech bars straight after... On the plus side. He laid down a £19k bike and did £170 worth of damage. I call that a win.
Thanks for sharing. Sorry to hear about the drop, but you will be happy with the reinforcement bars.
Thanks Stan I’m about to pick up my 2022 1250 GSA so will be sure to have the reinforcement bar ready to install.
That is the best course of action. Install them right from the get go.
I agree that the stock BMW crash bars are not substantial (probably due to weight concerns) but my 2020 1250 GSA has been hammered in rock piles and it has definitely gone down much harder than yours and mine have held up pretty darn well. I had the tour tec bar like yours installed before I took delivery and it definitely has saved me butt. Also Mine tour tec bars never lined up in the exact spot anyway (might be due to the engines on left and right not being exactly matching)
Yeah...I'm a Virgo and like symmetry but I'm living with the bars as is. Glad you had the foresight to add the reinforcement earlier than me. Thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel.
Stan, requesting some riding videos, preferably off road.
You read my mind....I was thinking that myself and just started to price GoPro's new and used to get POV video from a ride.....keep checking back and thanks for watching/viewing my channel
You won't have that problem with Alt-Rider crash bars. Best in the business.
I hear you but there is only so much money I can spend at a time. Once the word "Adventure" is in front of a piece of gear or an accessory that price tag gets high. Have you seen the price on Denali accessory fog lights. OUCH....!!!
I got hit from behind a few weeks ago, on my 2020 R1250GS, the bike was pushed from under me onto the left side, the OEM Crash Bar folded into the Cylinder Head Cover and cracked it, luckily I was covered by the 3rd Parties insurer, when I replaced it with the OEM Bars, the BMW Tech recommended and fitted the Touratech Strengthening Bar's on both sides, because of the lack of strength in the OEM Bars, for precisely the issues you and I have experienced.
Yep....tell everyone you run across. "Get the reinforcements before a fall or a drop" my drops were soooo minor and the bars bent in, Thanks for your story...
I agree. Manufacturers are opting to sell these instead of full crash bars, because of cost. Even Alt-Rider offers this option, however they aren't cheap.
@@mayhempilot6158 Yep...I suggest to everyone buy safety and protective equipment first before the Coms. and GoPros. Thanks for watching
So you are saying that OEM Bars have lower quality then Touratech? Interesting. I have a question. I have just bought my 2023 1250GS and I am searching for the Engine Guards. Do you recommend stainless steel or carbon steel bars? Some people say that carbon steel is better because it absors more energy in the impact.
@@SailorPhilit’s more of a design issue, the BMW bars on have 3 connecting point all on the lower side, so they can bend upwards on a drop, the Touratech have 4 points of connection which provides strength and resistance on a drop
