Considering replacing mine. I have 1983 Mark VI Pucci coupe. Have to pull knob out to fully extended position and gently push it back inward OR initially gently pull out knob until I find “sweet spot”. Have to go through this process, so message center buttons, HVAC panel back lights as well as headlights come on together. If sweet spot not identify, just headlights come on and buttons/HVAC panel backlights won’t illuminate. How to I get access to this switch? Remove knob, wood veneer and screws visible to remove part?
Thanks nice video and explanation.
I’m interested. Send me the best way to reach you. And where is it located ? Mike
Very timely. I'm working on one of my channel subscriber's 67 Lincoln convertible. Replacing the top pump very soon - thanks for the steps!
How much?
Not sure just yet, what do you think it's worth?
I have an identical spec’d 66 other than AC. Sorry to see you sell, been very educational watching your videos.
Surprising to see a vert without AC. Maybe it was delivered up north?
Yup, I’m in Canada!
Sorry to see it up for sale. Hopefully it'll go to a good home within the slab community and the 👍 glws!
Hello Bubba, Do you know which relay on the fender is the window safety relay? I have read the shop manual but it’s confusing.
I don't. The best way is to use the wire colors to figure it out.
okay thank you! using the manual and tracing the wire color helped
You didn't replace the rubber valves inside the middle valve-body. The originals will be old and hard and not seal well and be eaten by modern fuels. Why do half a job? You had the seals in your kit on the bench - you really should have shown how easy it is to replace them.
Good point. I probably have the kit somewhere. Easy to pull off and redo it!
What do you want for that noisy clunker, I might be interested !
Make me an offer. Worst could happen is I'll say no.
lifers...it's the lifters....replace that and maybe your rocker arms...maybe....Sometimes those old lifters just do that....
Man im going to miss watching your Lincoln videos.
I have a 66 as well and I opened up the valve covers checked the oil as well and it went away.
Unbolt the rocker arms, bet one is cracked inside one of the supports. it's just 4- 9/16 bolts that get retorqued to 45-55ft-lbs. you'll be into it less than 25 minutes to check. roll the pushrods while you're there.
My 66 makes the same knocking sound and I can't figure it out either. I'm thinking of just doing a LS3 swap and be done with it
Hello, we bought a new pump, and I realized that we didn't put this heat deflector plate, it works very well but after about 2 or 1 of it works it stops and runs out of fuel in the carburetor line, maybe it could be the deflector or pump pin ?
Sounds like vapor lock. The 2 port pumps have this problem. It is from the heat of the engine causing the fuel to vaporize. You need to make sure and get a three port pump and install the heat shield.
How big are those circlips? I lost a couple popping open my switches.
They are tiny. Like for a 1/16 pin.
great videos! thanks for keeping them posted. have you had issues with the convertible top getting stuck in the first stage when going back up? could it be a relay? is there a bypass to get it back up
It could be a switch or a relay. Depends where it gets stuck. All relays can be bypassed, just need to find the right one. Where does it get stuck.
it’s getting stuck with the lid straight up and the flap functions up and down. the top itself does not go back up.
@lonnie67 could be the rotary switch, could be the pump, could be the top down switch, could be the pump relay. Will need a voltmeter and a wiring diagram.
Your good man thanks for relay advise
thanks for posting these videos. they are truly helpful. do you still have a video on youtube on how to clean the seat switch? i couldnt find it lol
I know I've disassembled the switch but I'm not sure if I made a video. It would be the same time is made a video about rebuilding the 1961 seat mechanism.
thanks! i was able to use your switch cleaning video to get the job done, and it worked
@@lonnie67 good deal!
Any tips on getting the booster out? Any tricks? Stuck my head under the dash and it looks like a bitch.
Just the four bolts that mount it to the firewall. It may need to be pried to get unstuck.
I am building mine now. You said you drilled a scrap screw into the pin cover to pry it out. I will try that. This little cover is a monster.😮
Hey, Bubba thanks for that. I am rebuilding mine soon. I found the original 3 ports fuel pump lying around among some old parts. I checked with Lincoln Land and they didn't have any kits at the moment. Can I use parts from my 2-port fuel pump to rebuild my 3-port fuel pump? Would they be similar enough? My 2 port fuel pump was basically new. I am now using an electric pump near the tank. I closed the 2 ports mechanical pump I had. It was working. At the time I felt too much fuel was getting in. Do you use gasoline? Do you add mineral spirit or diesel to your fuel? How much oil do you put in your car? Can you show us your vacuum line setup from the canister under the wheel well to the cab wall? Thanks.
I think the diaphragm can work from a 2 port, it's worth a shot. I use high octane (93) to cut down on pinging. I would not suggest using diesel or spirits in any gasoline car, ever.
@@bubbasanders8916 Thanks. I saw that on a Lincoln forum. It didn't make sense so I asked. I just learned about the vacuum hoses. I am replacing mine one at a time. My car runs and stalls. I will definitely give the 3 port carburetor a shot. I am so glad I still have it.
Thank you for the video. Where do you get the newer style relay?
They are available at any auto parts store and on Amazon usually in sets of 5 or 10.
1. Can the seat be adjusted manually? Mine is up to close to the steering wheel and also a bit too low. 2. Did your car have a return fuel line? 3. I don't think my AC or heater switch is working, Thus my blower motor is not working. I believe my AC compressor might be still good. Any suggestions? 4. I don't have the reservoir tank near the radiator. We bypassed that. Is that a problem? 5. Are there any compatible window switches in another car or on the market I could get? Most of mine are broken. My original 430 cu engine was rebuilt and the transmission was rebuilt also. I went with a Holley 4brr carb. I have not done any bodywork. I am taking it out of storage and I will drive it as is.
The seat cannot be adjusted manually without some major disassembly of the motor unit. All cars came with a 3 port fuel pump which includes a return line. The blower motor is separate from the AC circuit. Also depends on of you have the automatic temperature control. With a proper radiator cap and overflow can, you can easily bypass the expansion tank. My car has been sitting for a few years while I was traveling the world. Last time I was in the states I started the car and had no brakes. I ran over a garden post at my friend's farm. Oops! I couldn't stop. I am getting my car tomorrow. I was thinking of bleeding the brakes myself or taking the car over to Firestone and get the works. I had the same issue with my booster and it cost it mint. I think I had to pay double because I didn't have a trade part. Not sure about your car but mine has drum brakes. I have not switched over.
With it sitting so long the seals on the wheel cylinders may be leaking. Luckily they are inexpensive. Hopefully the brake likes aren't rusted.
I like your car and I thought many times I would have wanted a convertible. I was wrong. I am soooo happy mine is not a convertible. Still, I am learning a lot. I have great folks who can do this work for me but I want to do it myself. Also, I do not like taking my car to the shop. They keep it forever.
I may do that. I want to adjust my seats.
I have a 1963 Lincoln Continental. Mine is not a convertible. I am pulling it out of storage. I saw your window relay video. I wonder if that will work for all of my windows. My window switches are brittle and I believe the window motors still work. Also, my seats are frozen and the switches do not work there. I wonder if they are just rusted and stuck? Not sure what to do. If you have a suggestion. Please let me know. Thanks.
I would start with the switches. The seat switches can be removed with the seat in the car. The window switches are a little harder, but start with the ones on the drivers door. Good luck.
@@bubbasanders8916 My window switches do respond. Sometimes I have rolled the windows down unintentionally because I was not ready to deal with them and had trouble getting them back up. The seat switch does not move anything at all. My dash is not awake. I get nothing from the blower, heater, or AC switches. Perhaps relays will bring them all back alive. Wish me luck. Sidenote: I have an electric fuel pump. I closed the mechanical fuel pump. I have a Holley 4brr Carb. Is fuel supposed to constantly drip into the carb?
@@bubbasanders8916 yes I will check the fuses and see if I can clean the switches up.
I have a 66, and you’ve given soo much insight!! Big shout out to you
You're welcome!
About to tackle upgrading all 4 of my rear window relays on my 1969 Continental this weekend. Thanks for the video
Good luck! Let me know if you need any help!
Thanks for the video. I am doing this on a 67 convertible in the next few weeks.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any tips!
Bubba Sanders is BACK!!! Glad to see it! ODB from Lincoln Addict Podcast.
Thanks for posting this video. It definitely just saved me money. I used this process on the window bypass switch as well.
You are welcome. And knowing you did it yourself is worth the effort.
Bubba.. could you pass along your connection in Atlanta for the brake booster. Our friends were talking to some guy California it's a little too far for shipping and stuff. Also would you know where I could obtain a rebuild kit. I'm just taking a guess you but more than likely it's one she'll that's gone bad. The power booster she'll wear the master cylinder rod travels through gets rusty scores the seal do you have a week. This only couple different ways to approach the repair job on that but more than likely it's not the diaphragm. Yeah my friend and neighbor down the block has the 66 convertible. I've been dying to get onto that convertible top. I mean it does some things it's nothing more complicated than a spinalator at a chiropractor shop. Lol. You just got sequences of function. Personally 66 Continental two-door would suit me fine.
This is the place. Literally a hole in the wall. I couldn't find the phone number. Reman Brakes 515 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. Atlanta, GA 30312
Thanks for that clip removal info
Sure thing you're welcome.
Incredible how you figured this all out
Thanks!
Hey , just wondering if you know where the headlight relay switch is located. Thanks
There are no relays for the headlights. All power goes through the switch.
Hey Bubba Can you send me the wiring diagram for using a conventional 5pin relay in the rear windows that you showed in the video you posted about the rear window lowering when you open the rear doors. I live in Adelaide Australia so getting replacement relays costs me about $400 Aud a relay.
Unfortunately there are 8 relays that control the rear windows. You can watch this video on making a custom relay for each one. You may need two to replace a single relay though. czcams.com/video/8ZIM2uANZfU/video.html
I'm working on a 66 convertible and I'm having trouble getting to the pin on the brake pedal assembly. Any tips?
The pin that goes to the brake booster? If I recall it's gotta be straight or it won't go. Send me a pic and maybe I'll do a video.
how hard was it to install leaf spring on your Lincoln?
Installation was quicker than removal, I reused my rubber insulators on the axle but new ones would have been better. It is simply a bolt on to change the rear springs. Much easier than the front.
maybe you have something that can help me with my 67 continental 4door convertable. the deck lid wont come down?? it was working one minute then it wasnt. any help would be greatly appreciated
I'll need lots more info. Top up or down? Flipper up or down? Are the locks turning? Is the relay for the trunk pump clicking? Have you jumped the relay for the trunk pump?
Is there a reason you did not upgrade to a 67 or 68 dual master? Doesn't doing a dual help prevent being in the situation of all 4 brakes being useless at once?
No particular reason. At the time I was just trying to keep the car on the road.
where did you buy these leaf springs from?
I got everything from Jamco.
Hey Bubba, I just picked up a 64 Vert project and watching your old videos trouble shooting the top on your 61. I just got the trunk area cleaned up and all the components look in tact. The flapper removed and the trunk lid moves freely however all lines connected so the pump or the hoses are bad. Have you made a checklist of some kind or a guide that I can follow checking things in order? for example where to connect the top switch in the trunk for convenience to test and how to test hoses and the pump? Thanks for any advice
There isn't a good guide, but the wiring diagrams in the shop manual are really good. I would suggest buying one or joining the private suicide slab group on Facebook. They have the pdf manuals.
Hey Bubba - I have an question regarding the Lincoln subwoofer video that you posted. How did you get the power wire through the firewall? I removed the passenger splash guard, glove box and kick panels and still do not see any way to get that wire from the battery to the trunk. Please help.
I believe it was behind the counterweight that hangs on the firewall. Behind the splash guard in the wheelwell.
Hey bud, how can I get a hold you…. I’m having issues with my 66 and I can’t figure it out!!!!
What's up?
My taillights are not working but break lights and turn signals work. Also notices when I turn my head lights it flickers
@@golondrino1976 check you brake switch. It's on the brake pedal. Then check the brake light relay on the fender.
The break pedal relay is working.. do you know which relay I should be checking cause their is like 5 of them
@@golondrino1976 I don't have the manual in front of me. Go to lincoln land or to the suicide slabs facebook page for the manual.
Hey Bubba. I have the new coil springs in place with the lower control arm secured by the ball joint and castle nut. My issue is that the drag link and stabilizer bar don’t line up with the lower control arm. I’m about 1 1/2” off. Did you run into this issue? If so how did you resolve it? Thanks.
Too far down or too far back? If the arm needs to come up, just use a jack. If it needs to move forward you may need to use a ratchet strap. Hit me up on facebook.
@@bubbasanders8916 I sent you a message on Facebook messenger. Thanks
Thanks for posting. Currently dropping my 66 2” with jamco suspension. Where did you get your replacement coil spring insulators? I’m having trouble finding them. Thanks
I used the stock ones. I would think any standard insulator should work, if it is the right diameter. Or call Jamco or Eaton to see what they recommend. Looks like Summit carries them too. Just measure yours and call. They should be able to help.
Definitely interested if this provides a fix…..my 67 has a leaking cylinder and i thought i was gonna have to replace whole cylinder….but if its just a new o-ring or two works i’m in for this fix!
It was definitely easy, especially since I didn't need to remove it from the car. But one of the actuators is leaking from the bottom of the case still, so I may need to replace anyway.
mmmh my 67 also have at tiny leak
@@TheDarkPriest69 it is the same actuator on a 67.
@@bubbasanders8916 they look the same
