Becoming debt free with Brad Nelson
Like many people, today’s guest, Brad Nelson struggled with living paycheck-to-paycheck, and dealing with the constant hamster wheel of never-ending payments for much of his adult life. After losing his home to foreclosure and his first marriage ending in 2012, Brad decided enough was enough and went on a journey to become debt-free. Clutter and debt are so closely linked so we invited Brad onto the podcast to share his journey into becoming debt free and share what he has learnt along the way that can help you.

    I hear this, and yet cannot put things back if it's been worn out... I have mostly been able to deal with my OCD about "clean" and "unclean" things at this point in my life, but laundry is still a trigger for me. I have made concessions about certain clothes in one part of the closet (coats and jackets), but still have the majority draped over a shelf in my room.

      It sounds like you are making great progress and have one place to put your worn clothes, how do you deal with laundry being a trigger for you?

  • @smallhouseinthemeadow6131

    I had two heart attacks and a mini stroke when I was 62, so it is never too early to start cleaning. I began preparing for my eventual death when I turned 50 because I didn't want my son to deal with my things after I am gone. When I had to clear out my younger sister's home who died at 50, it was devestating. Having to deal with a loved one's things AND grieve at the same time is just too much to deal with. It's not morbid to deal with these things. It is practical. I got rid of my journals. I know that my loved ones would read them even if I wrote on the box not too,LOL

    It takes me days to fill the dishwasher so that I can wash and sanitize the load, so I rinse my dishes before loading so the food won't stink after sitting for a few days, and so the machine will be able to clean better. I don't ask people to take their shoes off. I never lived anywhere that had a dishwasher. I put my half worn clothes on hooks on the back of the door. I like using a line but it's winter half the year in Niagara Falls area so I usually use the dryer😅 I decant very few things. Most cups are facing up. I've almost never had a dishwasher or used one, and my father taught me to rinse dishes after eating, so food won't stick and doing dishes by hand will be easier later! He calls it "bachelor's dishes"!!! It doesn't have to be hot water.

  • @A222Z
    @A222Z Pƙed 12 dny

    I always put glasses down on a piece of paper towel = in my mind, some air flow if still damp from dishwasher & no dust, etc . Dust & other tiny fruit flies can get inside cabinets. Maybe this is just a paranoia of mind.. but that's my reasoning. .. No lids, I don't like them being airtight storing nothing, especially if damp from dishwasher.

  • @A222Z
    @A222Z Pƙed 12 dny

    Before I sold my house ,I was pretty exacting about it being 'over' .. after selling my home, living a few months w/ family until I got my studio, I guess I just forgot about it, bc I don't even think about it anymore. .. always rinse -- no matter if high-end dishwasher, top of the line detergent = never fully clean. Now it is in my brain... Good tips to ck in dishwasher for better efficiency. ..no shoes, except for indoor exercise shoes. .. Americans typically don't, but after living abroad for 2 yrs, this became a habit. Then my home had white carpet in many rms. That carpet along w/some peroxide stayed almost brand new looking in most rooms until I sold.

The strategy Zoe shared is similar to the one I use that I learned in Rick Hanson's book "Buddha's Brain". To remember or even just imagine an "antidote" to the negative thought is SO powerful. The more I do, the more joyful my life has become and the more successful I have been in many areas of life. How to responsibly recycle: cassette tapes, VHS tapes and old computer/laptops. No one wants them. Some places advertise that you can send them the VHS or Cassette tapes and they will "responsibly" dispose of them, but you have to pay money for the service. Suppository, you have to drill holes in your old laptops so no one can steal your banking information. Thank you for this! I have separated out on a tarp all the brand new, unopened items I've found in my home, and you just reminded me that some of them were intended to be gifts, and I had just now been overwhelmed not knowing what to do with everything.

    Hello, I've never watched your channel before and YT showed this video as a recommendation and I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it helpful and informative. I will now go and take a look at Ange's podcasts and then take a look at your previous videos. Good job 👍 All the best Angela
