Why selling my BMW 320d xDrive privately sucked and how I sold it instead! #rant #story
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 21 dnem
It took me months to sell my BMW 3 Series and I had many frustrating and hilarious stories along the way to finally selling it to a Car Supermarket. In this video, I’ll tell you the story of how I didn’t sell it privately and some of the morons I encountered along the way and then how I actually sold it. Be warned, I get quite ranty in this one but all in good humour! If you enjoy this video, p...

    S60 D5 R Design owner here. Couldn't agree more. Owned loads of second hand cars and I just can't bring myself to sell mine. With the anti roll bar and stiffer suspension it's even pretty chuckable around bends. Just gone past 171'000 and obviously I've changed parts due to wear and tear but it drives like new with not a single rattle to be heard. The only gripe I do have is the position of the fog light switches as you have to look around the steering wheel to see them which isn't ideal if you're driving in fog. Other than that I honestly don't have a negative thing to say about it. In Metallic Copper and with low profile tires it still draws looks and comments which for a decade old Volvo saloon is pretty insane. I've often thought about going for the Maxton Bodykit for this car but I also just like it the way it is.

    My bmw 435i had all the following faults when I sold it to some garage from motorway. 4 bald tyres, knocking from the front, broken aircon (bmw had quoted me 2k to fix) due a service and was pulling to one side. I listed all the faults and the guy came and gave me what I wanted. Next day it was up for 4k more on their site clean MOT but wheels had been painted black and they added a crappy front lip spoiler thing. When zooming in the pics they had clearly just bodged the mot as I seen my same old bald tyres on there... I called anonymously and asked about the aircon and all this stuff saying "common faults these have they been done" and they like yeah no record of it but is all working 😂 load of bollocks

    I feel the pain and I think your remote location was the main barrier. I tend to keep my cars for about 5 years and typically have 3. I have sold privately almost every time with an honest detailed description, good photos and a sensible price. You do have to filter out the wasters. I am very selective when buying and I look after my cars so I know they are usually way better than most other equivalents. When buying the history and spec is super important to me and I will travel to get it. If a car is being sold with any form of non premium or non matching tyre it is an instant fail for me - a simple but effective filter.

    • @gordon8886
      @gordon8886 Před 14 dny

      @@car_babble Premium tyres perform significantly better (than budget/mid market) particularly in the wet and even more so when a bit worn. It also a sign of caring for a car - if the tyres are poor what else has been skimped to save money? Mismatched tyres on different axles is understandable but on the same axle is just no good. Left and right will perform differently in an emergency or in treacherous conditions. To an extent the stability control electronics can deal with that but only by reducing overall braking or traction. I mostly drive manual transmission powerful petrol rear wheel drive cars but the same applies to FWD or AWD.

As example, if something goes wrong with the car after purchase and it’s not fit for purpose, you can reject the car and get full refund. Yiu can’t do that buying private. is Dundee far from where you live then? Or is it 2 mins away? Did you think we all knew where you live? So selling a car privately hasn't changed in the last 40 years. As a rule I don't waste time with Pakistanis or Indians, they are always looking for a cheap deal and most can't even pay the asking price. As for your knowledge on selling car - it seems limited, like a 10 years olds.... for example you think a dealer would sell your car for £15 and so they should give you £12 ? After the prep and warranty which they have to give no BMW dealer will do this for less than £1000... so basically no dealer will give you £12K (you are dreaming).

    Great learning video! Thanks. In my driving life I have sold two cars privately BUT both these instances were to people who knew me AND knew the car, instant sale and no comebacks. The others I traded in for another car but two I wanted to sell I sold to the trade, lower money BUT lower distress from private sale probs. Trade sales are great for speed and no comebacks and get rid BEFORE something major does go wrong with the car whilst trying to sell, and no time wasters! Two cars sold in two weeks. Move on to the next no trade in, cash buy! Trade each and every time for me.

    Sold my 15 month old low mileage Mercedes CLA 35 through Carwow. Buyer was a dealer from Hull and got the train up to Scotland where I met him at the station then went back to my house. Money paid by bank transfer and he drove the car away...all quick and super easy. Using sites like Carwow or Motorway is the only way to do it in my opinion, because even though my car genuinely was in 'showroom condition' I'm sure I would have had the same hassle as you if trying to sell to a private buyer.

      Sorry for the delay. I'm massively behind on editing videos but I'll have a lot more videos about the Tesla coming over the summer. Absolutely loving it and can't find any major issues to report..it's not perfect but the things that are great are REALLY great.

    What mug sells to these companies? I've always sold cars and been patient. They always sell in the end. Don't expect forecourt prices. Who sell to a company who charge to send the log book off or charge you to have the cash in your bank the same day. Fancy buying a car and telling the seller you will charge them extra to give them money straight away in their bank. They steal your car not buy it .

      Obviously this mug and I didn't expect forecourt prices. Not sure what you are on about with regards charging to send the log book off?

    Well last year mate I had a Nissan leaf tekna in red and it was very clean and I put on 2,430 miles and a service and amount of time wasted on people not showing up or trying to buy it for 6000 pound off the price

    Excellent video, thanks. Love how the used-car salesmen (the ones that cannot write properly) are bleating in comments; you must have hit the nail on the head!

      Thanks mate and yes, I expected a few salty used car salesmen. Got the same the last time I made a video about selling my car.

When they came to pick it up yoi coidl tell it was gonna go tits up, the winning bid from them was £3,600, they came in with 3 gramd cash 😂😂. I sold through Motorway. Didn't quite get the price that they valued it at, but the process was straightforward and I'd recommend.

      Out of interest, how did they justify knocking you down?

    • @matthewgee8122
      @matthewgee8122 Před 19 dny

      @@car_babblethey didn't really. When i loaded up the details of my car Motorway said it was valued at 18k. When it went out to dealers i only had 3 offers but all were at 17k. My father in law works in the car trade for a car auction company so had access to all the CAP prices. It was coming in at 17k so the bidders were offering honest money for it. I was about to buy a car from a dealership that would only offer me 15.5k as a trade in. Maybe could've got 18k selling privately but couldn't be bothered dealing with the tyre kickers etc.

    My friend. I feel every bit of pain that you've just been through as I've experienced it all recently all from that cess pit called buying and selling cars. Long story short: Sold a car on Motorway. last year. Price was knocked down. from the agreed price (ce'st la vie I guess)..Later found out that the dealer who bought it later sold it with 20,000 miles less than they bought it from me with! Reported them... Bought another car recently which I later found out had been clocked...Sold to WBAC with mileage discrepancy disclosed.. Same car ended up in the hands of a Main Dealer who made a massive 8K on it.. (They Probably forget to declare the car's dodgy past to the unsuspecting new owner). Moral of this story: Buyer AND Seller beware. What can I can say is that there are some genuine, HONEST buyers and sellers out there, but they are extremely few and far between.. The rest are just a bunch of brainless timewasters who enjoy annoying you with silly offers... "What's your lowest Price Bro"?..... Glad you made a good sale to a proper buyer in the end.

      Thank you for the comment and good to hear someone else feeling my pain. It just gets so nauseating hearing "what's your best price bro?" straight out of the gate. Those are some shocking stories you have and sorry you got so unlucky. Everyone just ripping the arse out of it.
