Many organizations measure perceptions, but few effectively manage them. There are two types of perceptions: accurate and inaccurate. Which ones are you responding to? Assessing Your Behavioral Safety Process
zhlédnutí 204Před rokem
Results from traditional Behavior-Based Safety processes can plateau after the first two to three years of operation. At this point, the process can become routine and lose its original results-based orientation. When this occurs, the success that motivated the process early on are quickly diminished, and the entire process tends to simply “go through the motions” and slowly lose momentum. Don’...
A Proven Framework For Safety Culture Assessments

Cultures are most commonly defined as common practices, shared attitudes, and perceptions that influence behavioral choices at work and away. Do you know a better way for supporting our police officers and their families than we, the people are now doing? KJV notes the codification of laws for humanity in a great narrative that doesn’t mention that Moses studied at one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world and might have studied the Hammarabi code. 🤷♀️. But so what🤷♀️ the point is how can we now make sure his climb up that mountain wasn’t in vain. Any suggestions? I’ve written to churches but don’t see an upsurge in people visiting/monitoring jails, bond posters, judges, etc. We must get a handle on our justice system asap. Economic justice for sure ! That Sam Bankman Fries situation was so disgraceful. Hope you can think on this and send a few words!
Are these videos available anywhere else? The audio quality is making it tough to stick with.
Great story. Thank you
Great one
It's always a pleasure to hear your thoughts! What I still find difficult is helping managers to focus on one subject at a time. Under pressure, they want to prove their commitment by launching a large number of actions and then struggle to achieve anything... it sometimes takes time to demonstrate the power of concentrating on one improvement at a time. By the way, do you have any recommendations to help managers plan their improvements over time (number of simultaneous PDCAs, average time taken to complete a PDCA, etc.)?
Thanks! The framework for a strategy to accomplish this is in my book Inside Strategy. To help more specifically, I only teach it in a workshop with clients to develop theirs. If you are ever interested in partnering on this, let me know.
Theoretically, yes all accidents are preventable, but if I had to place a bet it would be that all not all accidents will be prevented regardless of the effort put into preventing them.

Insightful.
Great idea........totally unrealistic and rarely achievable. Next..........
There are a lot of ways it can go wrong, but also can be a good addition to a mature safety toolbox when used correctly. I have seen hundreds of successes but also failures using this type of safety tool. Why do you feel unrealistic and rarely achievable?
Thank you for knowledge gained.
My pleasure!
Thanks for the video, very good knowledge, sir...

Correlation does not equal causation. Trends do not equate to anything sometimes. This also depends on how varied or how many points you vary your analysis on. Most trend analysis systems are way too generic. Then if you make it too specific you can't get enough data points to spot an actual trend. The real big reason we have incidents, is that people are human beings and they error for a variety of reasons. For example, you can't test for IQ prior to hiring, people also have a variety of personalty disorders like ASPD or Psychopath. Approximately 1.5-2.5% of the population could be Psychopathic. These people have an affinity to gravitate towards high risk activities, so their jobs are also high risk. Many people with personality disorders don't view risk the same way and don't recognise it. How do you prevent these people from being involved in incidents?
Hi Shawn You missed the third point. Good talk, but why do you look like you are wearing your dad's suit? Cheers.
Thanks for sharing. Good stuff on the topic of the impact of perception.
Very good insight of BBS failures and Lean .
Thank you.
Hi Shaw, How many observer does bbs process need ? is it statistic?
It is dynamic and depends on many variables that I can't answer here. Read this book: proactsafety.com/insights/book-lean-behavior-based-safety-bbs-for-todays-realities

The reality is all accidents are preventable. in hind sight. You can think a few moves ahead and prevent some. After the accident occurs it is very easy to come up with ways it could have been preventable. The question is "Are all accidents predictable?"
Please sir all safety full from words send me email
good way to get safety enhancement in our work
Accidents happen. That's the way it's always been, and the way it always will be.
If risk management is applied and standards are followed then accidends will not just happen.
@@briansylvester3055 Don't fool yourself, nobody is that good, I have seen enough deaths to know you can prevent alot of them, but not one large company in the world is accident free! Why? Because humans are involved!
@@briansylvester3055 it depends on how comprehensive the risk assessments are on sight before starting task.
sir the problem with me is that I belong to a very small town and I did this course(Fire and safety) but it became worthless because in my institution I had to remember definition and the definition is completely bookish.so I request you if it is possible u can send all those important questions and answers that are necessary and being asked in interviews
I'm sorry that doesn't exist in a format that can be shared publicly.
can I have PDF of it
PDF of what?
Thank you Shawn. Transformational Indicators a great idea to the next level of safety performance!! Agree, Communication is what many organisations miss out!!!
Excellent insight into Lean BBS
Thank you.

From all the podcast that I have viewed, I don't see any comments. I believe that more people believe that not all accidents are preventable. First of all you can't prove that all accidents are preventable. I remember sitting in on a safety meeting given by are safety manager, and after his lecture on how every accident is preventable he stepped down from the podium tripped (on nothing I might add) or twisted his ankle, whatever the case may be, but he fell and broke his knee. I walked up to him afterwards and asked him if this accident was preventable?, to which he made no reply. You talked about is cancer preventable, and the doctors reply is yes "IF" caught in time. Take those "what if's" draw a circle around them, and in the center of them write GOD'S PROVIDENCE.
your logic seems logical, but in reality if I took the time to try and prevent an accident from happening, I wouldn't get anything done. I am required to put 50 cases an hour on the shelf, do you really think that I have time to think about 2 to 3 moves ahead of what I am doing to prevent an accident? it is easy for you to set back and watch someone doing something and think about different scenario's that could prevent an accident. Try doing it while doing it.
I agree, people in safety have a false sense of security pushing their numbers.
How did that work out for you? Mr no time for safety...
Thanks Shawn! All the best to you as well. Hoping we can see you again soon in Montana.
Thanks!
Thank you!
