All Things Performance
I sat down with my long-time internet friend Emilio Martinez to talk about training. We recorded another 40 minutes after the video's conclusion, but it just didn't save.
This conversation ranges from propulsion and yielding strategies to our mutual friend Nick Zappala who trained at Driveline with me. Overall I had a great time recording this. Sorry for my audio quality but I am poor and didn't realize airpod microphones are terrible.

Autoregulation Methods to Improve Throwing Velocity
zhlédnutí 751Před 8 měsíci
A discussion about CNS fatigue and how autoregulatory methods can be potentially used to increase throwing velocity. Autoregulation is a popular method for improving strength, and its principles can also be applied to throwing programs. In throwing programs currently, there is not enough training of Alactic power we are only training capacity. You need to use Alactic methods to increase throwin...
An Introduction To DB Hammer: A Throwing Perspective

This is a brief overview of "The Best Sports Training Ever!", a book by Dietrich-Heinz Buchenholz. Many Strength and Conditioning Coaches love this book and its content, but there are no well-known summaries or videos on its content so I decided to make one. This offers a deep dive into rebounds, stretch reflexes, and pre-tension. It attempts to also dive into some Frans Bosch content and ideas...
Recovery Throwing Game

Recovery throwing is generally butchered. The lower intensity alters upper and lower body mechanics, which isn’t helpful. Here’s a game you can play to help you improve during recovery days.

Pitching Delivery: The Lower Half
zhlédnutí 127Před rokem
Been thinking about the lower half a lot recently. 90% of throwing velocity is attributed to the upper half. But that doesn't mean the other 10% is 👀💦. Here's what I am currently thinking (open to changing my opinions at signs of good evidence). Opening to answer any questions. Become Unstoppable.

    Awesome stuff, how do you work in lifting, high intensity lifting can only come after high velocity days because you want cns to peak?

    Love the video. Would love more videos on DB Hammer. Your explanations have been the best I’ve heard so far. For next topics, would love you to break down his methodics principles specifically his NeuroMagnitude Reactive Acceleration method. I know you would never do this with million dollar athletes but would it be really effective (putting aside safety)? I know throwing weights and then catching them is dangerous but is it effective (if you can eliminate the risk factor and legal issues)? And if so, how much can you do? What is the frequency? Once per week? Multiple times a week but for short duration (2-3 weeks)? Etc? I know Dan Fichter always talks about collision training and this would qualify but was curious about like I said frequency

    I got access DBs book, some articles, and notes about his articles and books from my supervisor when I was a GA. The notes definitely helped me understand his vocabulary much easier. Good break down!

    So you talk about with auto regulation how if you feel good you can train harder in the weight room. Could that apply to throwing? So looking at your throwing program it’s all low and high, but what if on the low day say on a Thursday. Your arm and body feels good would you want to maybe just make more throws or throw a little harder, or both? Say you make 35-55 throws on a low day, maybe make 45-75 throws on the low day you feel good. Or if your around 75-80 mph on a low day. Maybe bump it up to 78-84 mph on the day you feel good. (Based off of someone who tops 94) just wondering

    • @kevincoyne9542
      @kevincoyne9542 Před 8 měsíci

      Or would you not recommend this due to the theory of not gaining anything well being at medium intensity.

    • @rs3sports
      @rs3sports Před 8 měsíci

      Yeah so the tricky part about doing that is you have to be ready to Velo if you bump it up from a low day to a high day. If I had all the money in the world I would be using readiness scores to assess if my athletes were ready for velo then base the schedule off that. But that’s not always possible. I would stay away from the middle ground personally. If you throw 94 why are you training to throw 84?

    Do you think training for that stability should be something you can progressively overload or overstimulate such as the 1 arm DB RFE catch or water bag? Will the stress ever need to change?

    • @rs3sports
      @rs3sports Před 8 měsíci

      No matter what exercise you are performing you will always need to be undulating stress and volume. You can progressively overload anything. I'm not going to bench 325lbs forever. If neural duration work like a 1RM bench press is a foundation for stability work--as the muscles need to contract isometrically to allow the elastic elements of the upper body to stretch and transfer energy into the barbell--then why would you not be progressively overloading that skill and improving it?

    • @anthony_adams29
      @anthony_adams29 Před 8 měsíci

      @@rs3sports makes sense, the progressive overload question was more for the water bag example. Once an athlete is very stable with the water bag, should they increase the weight of the water bag or just move onto some other implement for stability?

    • @rs3sports
      @rs3sports Před 8 měsíci

      @@anthony_adams29 maybe? I would change waterbag variations first though. I think you'll be fine no matter what you choose
