That certainly was a game. It's pretty clear there was some talent involved here but it feels like maybe they bit off a little more than they could chew. Even if it had been put together better, I really do wonder if it would have been all that successful. Despite AotD being considered a classic in the genre (and maybe even literally the first game in the genre), I'm not sure the name or series just holds all that much weight today.

For those who aren't aware, the visual style (and even some of the character designs) are based on the work of manga artist Junji Ito. If you like the art and design, be sure to check him out! The one issue I had with the game is that there just isn't enough randomness or alternate pathways for the procedurally generated stricture the game has. As tense as the story was, when you see the same random event appear again and again over multiple plays (with the same intended solution) it just loses it's grip very quickly. I can't help but feel this could have been made better by having multiple discrete, scripted scenarios to play though instead of taking the "rogue like" approach. Or, if they were married to being a rogue like, they needed to have more possible events that could appear.

I backed Nine Sols for crowdfunding and it just released a day or so ago so I'll be tucking into that soon but, yeah, Dawntrail. Just Dawntrail. While I did enjoy Elden Ring, I'm just not usually someone who goes back to a game once I'm "done" with it. I'll definitely be following the expansion and watching videos/streams of it but (at least right now) I'm not likely to actually play it.

In some ways, it's actually interesting to see this game come out so close to the Senua sequel. Can't say I'm going to play it but, given everything I have heard about it, I'm quite glad it exists.

There definitely is an odd mismatch between the quality of the voice work and the motion capture/facial animations. You're not wrong. In some games, especially horror games, that sort of thing can be used to add a bit of an unnerving element.. but here it just feels like a technical or budgetary constraint. Also not a fan of the weirdly bullet spongy enemies especially since you're already playing on the easier difficulty setting. Weird.

Soma really was something special. There's also a couple interesting live-action shorts on Frictional games channel that were released alongside Soma.

Eh, I know games like this aren't really about the graphics but this one is just sort of ugly. It also doesn't really seem to have much of a style or identity in the way something likw Papers Please does. I'd actually personally find it hard to get invested here just because of the visuals

Nothing on there for me but also on Eiyuden so am good for a while. Then got SMTV in June, Dawntrail end of June, Visions of Mana in summer... My backlog will never get touched

Not really sure anything in May is really catching my eye for now, though I'm very interested in seeing your take on Indika. Not a game I want to play but I'm quite curious how it will end up for those who are interested. I'm still slowly working through Eiyuden Chronicle but I'm really feeling an itch to spend more time with Rise of the Ronin. Despite finishing the game and getting all of the trophies there's still a whole post game that's calling my name.

Definitely a good use of my holiday $. Wasn't expecting too much. Barely scratched the surface but still love it. The microtansactions are for the lazy players with cash to burn I guess.

Played it and was worth it for me despite the optimization issues. The MTX was scummy but I always ignored them anyway specially nowadays on all of games. Having played the first game and seeing the final scene I know a DLC is coming which I will be looking forward to it. :)

The first Talos is a masterpiece. I find it to be one of the greatest, if not the best puzzle game I have ever played. I cannot wait for the physical release later this month for the PS5.

Well this certainly is fascinating I was quite enjoying the previous parts of the game and was not at all expecting it to go in this direction at all.

Eituden Chronicles for me.. to the point where I was a Kickstarter backer of it way back when it was crowdfunded lol Sad that the lead writer on the project passed away not long ago and he won't be able to see his final project be released.

Definitely Eiyuden Chronicles and Europa for me with possibly Sandland. I have been waiting for the release of Eiyuden since it got announced. Been a fan of the series since the first one. Europa looks absolutely amazing. Very Studio Ghibli and reminds me of an Snes game called Wonder Project K somehow. Played Sandland demo, was very good. And it'd be nice to have anothe Toriyama memorabilia.

And the award for the biggest jump scare in the video goes to... Not the murderous decrepit mannequin!

I think it still needs a lot of improvement. How is it posible that the most popular mods are: -reshading so you can actually see in TR1 and get back the brightness options of TR3, which are not around -keys being visible in TR1, particulary the cistern -New textures for the manor, and sand, most probably cause of poor IA scaling -Better animals This is the point of a remaster... The "remaster" part is also not up to par for other reasons, the updated graphics are not up to par to the current standards, this remasters could have been made 5 or more years ago, and I understand the difference between a remaster and remake, just in case, I'm not asking for a remake
