Yoshan Dongyi Natural Gas Conversion Coffee Roaster

Natural Gas set up / conversion for a Yoshan Dongyi 2kg Coffee Roaster. Pressure for NG in China must be different from typical US specs. Three main changes from the factory. 1. The solenoid needed a larger orifice to pass more volume with lower pressure. Yoshan 2kg Roaster Quick Review
zhlédnutí 4,5KPřed 2 lety
Stay tuned for a longer, more indepth review. There are a few little issues, but nothing that would change my opinion in this video.
Hello, I have trust issues with buying on Alibaba . Could you please send me the seller details so i dont get scammed. Thanks in advance
We are waiting for the new SD-3!! ;)
Great video. what made you prefer a nat gas machine over propane?
Is your machine still running? 😊
what was your original pressure with the KPA gauge and the valves?
Can you just list the little issues? I'm curious what you've found to be the minimum and maximum charge weights you can successfully roast in this machine. A much older video of a dy-2kg said the real maximum charge weigh was about 1.46kg. I was hoping this machine could take at least 1700g.
The only one of note is the airflow at the top of the chaffe collector easily gets restricted if not cleaned frequently. A removable, washable screen prevents the fan from needing to be fully cleaned by disassembly. Re: charge weight. It absolutely can handle 2kg. Get to know your machine without Artisan, first. Develop your feel for gas pressure & airflow. I'm no Rob Hoos, but I'm proud of the roasts I do on this machine (most of the time). :-) Lower charge weights are personal preference.
Hey Jeff, is your machine still running, you're still satisfied with it? Greetings
It's still strong. Working very well
Hello I have yoshan machine DY3 it's a 3 kg and I have the same problem but I can't read the chart good Can you help me with what size I need please? It's says the machine max output 60000 BTU/ Hour Thanks
Mahmoud, I need to get these details right to make sure I calculate it correctly. First: How many burners do you have under the drum. The 2kg model has 5. Second: What pressure are you working with? Third: Is 60,000btu your goal? That's a lot of heat power for a 2kg.
I like to read f instead of C can i change it
Yes. I can't tell you how to do it now. They've upgraded to the newest model of pid from Omron. I looked my model up online, downloaded the manual, and changed it myself. There's even a setting for an alarm and a shutoff temp.
@@girtonj i got the manual and it says nothing about c to f
@@matkins4268 the manual from Yoshan or the manufacturer of the PID?
Hello, do you know why the roaster would shut off (flame off) when it reaches around 220 degrees F? Im thinking theres a temp auto shut off but im unable to figure out how to adjust.
Yes, your PID has a setting for that. What's the model of your PID? I searched the model & brand for the manual. I was able to set a warning alarm for 370f to make sure I was ready for FC. Then you can set the temp for it to turn off for safety.
@@girtonj it’s Omron E5CC
@@girtonj I’ve found the user manual. However, there were no clear instructions on adjusting the auto turn off temp. Any help you can offer up?
How goes it? I just got the 2kg yoshan roaster. Having a hard time turning it on. Power button will light up, but thats it. I was wondering if you had any pointers or advice. Thanks!
Does anything else function? The fans or PIDs? I've heard of something like this before when 110v was used instead of 220v.
@@girtonj Jeff! I am so embarrassed right now lol. I am 100% not using a 220v. I just ordered an adapter to connected to the dryer outlet lol. Thanks for the help man!!!!
@@tylermelo8374 I mean I've never done anything like that ever. 🤣
Did you buy direct through Yoshan, or did you use Alibaba?
I went through Alibaba for the financial transaction, but have dealt with the factory directly.
@@girtonj thanks so much. I'm also considering another company. They have belt driven drum vs. chain like the Yoshan. How are you getting along with the chain? Do you think it is a better setup than a belt? How noisy is the machine at the drive chain, as well as a whole?
@@michaelrapino4175 the chain is heavy duty and tight. The only noise I've noticed is when the bearing needs lube. Not often. It's quiet. I can easily hear one sneaky bean bouncing in there. The hum of the burners is more noticeable than the drive system.
Just got myn this week 😊😊
Have fun setting it up! Enjoy!
@@girtonj I hope you don't mean that sarcastically 😁
@@habibihabti1149 haha. Well there is a little frustration in your future as you get it dialed in and learn your machine. But I did love the process of putting it together and getting started.
Great video. Do you have to install it yourself. No help from the manufacturer?
I did it myself, but I've had good service from the manufacturer. They respond quickly.
Great Video!
Looks like your doing quite well, l also have a 2kg roaster and it going well. I have done 17 roast on it so far.
Hey Jeff ! Im looking into getting one of these machines...I am unfortunately having one heck of a hard time getting ahold of anyone regarding some questions with shipping times etc...do you by chance have any suggestions ?? Wicked thanks ahead of time !! Cheers Chris
Let me reach out to my contact person, Erin. I know shipping had been crazy. I hope it clams down soon.
I asked my contact person and she didn't respond with an answer.
Thanks for this video, I’m contemplating on buying one my self. May I ask where you purchased yours from?
I got mine directly from the factory. I worked with Erin. She's been great. Let me know if you need her Whatsapp info.
I have a question. I just received my yoshan roaster just before Christmas and just started doing seasoning roasts. I downloaded all of the necessary things for artisan. It starts fine with correct readings, but every time I press the gas ignition, the readings go away causing a modbus failure. I restart the artisan and it goes back to normal until I hit ignition again. Has this happened to you or know anyone it has and how to fix it? It’s almost like the other ignition is causing a short or loss of transmission to the usb cables
I'm not good enough with artisan to be able to help here. Sorry.
We should talk. I've got the same machine. Been roasting since February and am digging the roaster. Been making a bunch of tutorial videos on my page, but want to start shifting to more targeted videos for people interested in buying coffee rather than roasting coffee.
Hey Jeff, you still satisfied with the machine?
Yes. Its solid and reliable. I'm at a point now where I need to keep up with some maintenance. Like greasing the bearings and cleaning the collector. She's back to purring like new.
@@girtonj Thx for the info Jeff, I just ordered one. Hope everything will be fine. My you make a video how you do your Maintenance 😀.
Just uploaded a quick video that shows how I lubricate the main bearing. So far the other maintenance is pretty simple...just cleaning things out.
Do you use any sort of smoke filter? Do you think one would be necessary for a residential area? Thanks for any help.
I've had neighbors tell me they can smell it while walking in front of my house. I have it vented out the chimney.
@@girtonj does it seem like a lot of smoke? Do you think if you went to a larger roaster you would add a smoke filter?
Is it a problem that I don't have a smoke filter? No. Would it help & make things easier? Of course!
@@girtonj thanks for the help. I’ll be ordering mine today or tomorrow.
@@ryanbrown395 did you find one you like? I'm changing locations & looking into them
Nice review. Does the drum have enough thickness? I heard from others that it has thin drum. Do you experience scorching?
I don't know about the thickness objectively. The roaster is ridiculously heavy. I wish the drum pre-heated faster, so I tend to think it's substantial. I have seen scorching, but for me it was a matter of capacity & drum speed. Once I figured out how to dial it in, I'm getting consistent results.
Great video. I have concerns much like you mentioned about the gas pressure up here in Canada. I wonder if I’d encounter the same issue?
I need to do a longer, boring video that discusses my NG issues and my solutions. There's one area that I wouldn't mind someone else figuring out how to do it better.
