Bite Alarm Etiquette - keep it off until you're ready
Bite alarms are a really useful tool and make the long wiating time for a bite bareable. However, they can be really noisey so, to keep your fellow anglers happy, follow these simple tips.
1 - Cast out and leave your alarm switched off.
2 - Get everything set up, bobbin, clutch, bait runner tension, etc just the way you want it.
3 - Switch on your alarm and if you really need to, give it one twitch to make sure the alaram is working.
Sit back and wait for that screaming run!

Conger Eel on GoPro Camera, 100ft Deep

I dropped my camera over the side in 100ft of water and let it hang above some baited hooks. I had no bites so assumed nothing was happening down there, then I checked the footage. That conger eel was far more interested in the camera than the fresh mackerel that was literally drapped over it's head at one point. You think you know what's going on, but you dont...

Plumbing the depth is an important skill to master to help you become a better angler. It will take around five minutes at the start of your session but it is worth the effort. 1 - Set up your float fishing tackle as normal but add either float rubbers or small shot at the base of the float, not enough to cock the float properly. 2 - Add a plummet to the hook and secure it in place by pushing t...

If you're fishing with limited time available, pre-baiting can help you get action instantly. Before you go fishing, introduce bait to the area you want to fish. Do this a minimum of 12 hours in advance and ideally every day for several days leading up to your session. Use baits including sweetcorn, pellets, boilies and particles to catch carp, tench, bream and other species on lakes and rivers.

Nice clear instructional video. Love the Attenborough analogy! Beginners would do well to use the heaviest plummet they can so that they can really feel when it's hitting the deck or being lifted off. Always a good idea to push the float up the line by at least 5cm to counter float drifting and chop on the water that would otherwise bounce the hookbait up and down on the bottom.
