Vilano Urbana Folding Bike Mods. Very important mod to the seat post.
The Vilano Urbana is a wonderful folding bike but it does require modification to the seat post to make it safe for people that are over 150 lbs. The EsquireBiker shares his experience.

Vilano Urbana Ride to DC. Brake Problem.
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 6 lety
The trip to DC was going very well and the hills are absolutely no problem on the Vilano Urbana. With the exception of the steepest Hills, the gearing of the bike allows for easy pedaling up modest inclines. However, our trip was cut short due to a malfunction of the coaster brake. Very rare, but the coaster brake refused to disengage.

The Vilano Urbana is extremely simple to operate and carry around due to its compact form factor and no cable design. The folding mechanism is simple and sturdy. 10 to 15 seconds and the bike is ready to ride.

21.5 lbs, 20 inch 1.75 wheels and no cables to snag on anything or anyone on the bus or train. Almost zero maintenance and a pricepoint of $199. What is there not to like about the Vilano Urbana?
The Arlington Loop, 17 miles on the Montague Urban

The Arlington Loop offers riders access to some beautiful sites and scenes. My November 18th 2017 trip with Paul was great fun, but I must say, the hills are a lot easier on my 20 pound Tern Verge X20.

The Tern Verge X20 is a wonderful little folder which is a joy to ride. The diminutive weight and overall package of the bicycle makes it ideal for commuters. Here, I did a 32 mile trip.

Dahon Sweet Pea 14 Inch Folding Bike Mods
zhlédnutí 6KPřed 6 lety
The Dahon Sweet Pea folding bicycle was produced and marketed as a kids folding bike, but the sturdy 14 inch tires and robust frame make it possible for adult use. It folds like a dream, can handle a 200 pound adult and is easily converted for urban short trips to Starbucks.

Nice bike. I get it
Love it! Thank you for making the video, I'm about to buy one used. This was helpful :)
Thank you so very much!
I cant find the weight limit on this one. Can you please share the weight limit? Thank you.
Your 1-speed folder just begs for a Sturmey 2-speed kickshift like I rebuilt my rear wheel with. Unfortunately they've vanished off eBay now. There's the 2 speed automatic shifter which i haven't tried, and the 2 speed kickshift with coaster brake added on. This one sucks, i.e., you lose the option of backpedaling. It was also hard to upshift without braking so i ended up throwing it out.
hmmm i wonder why my seat post on this bike is rusting if it is aluminum?
Will I need to change the seat post if I weigh 150 lb? Huge thanks for your info
Just ordered a used one on ebay. Hope it works out.
You're supposed to service the coaster brakes like a car
Thank you.
Thanks for the review
Great review!!!!!!!!!
Love your reviews!!!!!⭐️
TERRIFIC!!!!⭐️
I bought two... one for me, and one for my grand daughter, both of them fit in my trunk 2004 sunfire, you have to remove the spare tire, but we are riding the bike trail in town, so if I get a flat I'm not far from home to deal with it, save me from having to buy a bike rack and pay to get a hitch installed. Nice bikes.
Will this be all right for someone weighing 215 pounds?
Super video.
Ideal height for this bike??
Have you tried flipping the hub?
I have a Vilano Urbana I bought last year..I have owned folding bikes for 13 years so I Know them pretty much inside and out..I have customized the Vilano from the ground up ..Tires..Custom painted 3 spoke rear wheel..Stainless steel brake cable..Bear trap pedals..You name it..I have done it !!..I will tell you this is The Best riding and smoothest FolderI have owned period !!..I have owned Strida and Dahon both as well...It just goes to show you dont have to spend a lot to get a nice bike..I would put mine up against Tern..Brompton ..etc Any Day of the Week :)
Hi! I am looking to get one too and modify it more for safety and looks. You have done what I aim to kind of do so could you link some of the mods you’ve done? Thanks!
@@danielmalixi8871 Hey Daniel sure thing ..So the First and probably the Best upgrade i did was to put a Free wheel on the back and just have a front brake lever ..It makes the ride alot smoother and overall more comfortable ..if you go online and just google things like....20 inch panaracer hp 406 tires..you will see different sites..Blue Sky Cycling is one of them ..then if you go to a local bike shop you can find cool front brake levers too as well as an Unlimited ways to customize..If you like i can email you some pics of what i have done to give you some ideas :)
@@nealgriffin3744 Thanks for the reply man, I will definitely check those out. Did you also make any changes to the handlebars/stem because I have read reviews of it being loose and such. And yes please, I would appreciate the pictures!
@@danielmalixi8871 I kept the handlebar as is..Its pretty cool because the handlebar and post is one solid piece..as far as it being loose..that was the case with mine at first and it did make a slight creaking noise..However after a couple weeks it went away because once the metal settled in..Its became whisper quiet when riding now and have no issues with it becoming loose..I actually used a pair of pliers on the stem bolt and tightened it that way..whats your email and i will send you some pics of what I did to mine
@@nealgriffin3744 ah okay, it is danyol2027@gmail.com
If I take off the seat pole of a foldable bike, can I use it as a pedal scooter?
Just take off the seat post completely & use it as a pedal scooter! That's what I'm gonna do!!
What's also overlooked is that if you take off the seat pole, you can ride it as a pedal scooter! 🙂
Can you add hand breaks on this Vilano bike?
Thank you bud !!
Nice tire concept we have nowadays. How much are those tires & which store? Thanks for sharing. Liked & Subscribed.
Please SHOW how it breaks. Braking is the MOST IMPORTANT part.
It has coaster brakes. You simply reverse cycle and it would stop
Back pedal hard.
Great review and mods I only would like to know since it is 20" wheel folding bike without any suspension fork, if the solid airless tires makes the ride more stiffer than the original-provided tires when riding in trails for example. If I get such a bike, I would probably get a dual spring seat or one of those suspension seat posts to dampen the ride a little especially for middle aged person like myself. Thanks enjoy the ride
My favorite bike, too bad they are all out of stock
would love to wheelie this bike
That is not a good idea. The handlebar stem is a weak point.
Best bike ever, I love it!
Do you recommend tannus?
Yes. I hate flats. Hate them.
@@boselawfirm is it true that when you use tannus you lose a lot of speed? I'm thinking of putting tannes on my dahon. thanks for answering.
@@alexBoblee Yes. there is a little loss of speed based on greater friction forces
How's the vibration factor after changing over to solid tires? I have a push scooter with solid tires and it vibrates your hands like crazy depending on the road surface.
It is more than a normal air tire without doubt, but bearable.
Could you use this bike as a stand up bike? I noticed the shape of the bike is very similar to some stand up bikes (just take the seat off for example). Not sure how tall the handle bars go though.
Thanks for this video! Your descriptions and quick tutorial influenced me to choose this as my first folding bike out of several contenders. If you don't mind my asking, do you still use and enjoy it?
Would you happen to have the Amazon link to those grips?
Why buy this piece of shit bike if ur replacing every fucking piece lol.
So the entire bike needs replacing . 😒
😂
Tnx.What about product discripetion ?
does it still fold up ok with the diff seat, grips, tires and stem? ...not such a cheap little bike anymore.
I just bought one and I think Vilano started using steel seat posts. My seat post attracts a magnet; I know aluminum is not magnetic.
Thanks for the reply. Was about to run around looking for another seat post. Tested it with a magnet and mine is steel: so is the tire fork mount.
Any new updates on the urbano?
Hi, What model/brand of your 14 inches tires?
Not big on coaster brakes. But, they mount it on this is much better than others I've seen.
I love coaster brakes. I find them reliable and long lasting. I grew up riding them . If you are going to ride on snow and ice though get a fixed wheel for your bike. It is much better as it is harder to break traction.
Cant find the 28.6 MM version.
