I do not see the rowers at the Paris Olympics feather their blade as you recommend
Just watching rowing at the Paris Olympics. It appears to me none of the rowers feather the blade as you describe???
Thank you for this! Loose shoulders, core & legs on! This made all the difference for me. Improved my results immediately.
I love all of your videos and get a lot out of them. On this one though I find it a bit vague on exactly what is being considered proper, too low and then too high handle heights in the video. Maybe it's my not having finished my coffee yet. 😁🚣
If you're strong and have a super lightweight single ok. For more normal folk with the usual strong and heavy club boats no. Asking for trouble and shoulder/neck injuries. Best to have two people. Or carry over head IF you have the strength or at waist if you haven't. Pretty fed up with rowing 'advice' that presumes fit male 20 something. We should be more inclusive.
У русских есть точное определение подобному занятию: "обезьяна с гранатой"...
Good idea, thanks. I’m going to try that with my U15 athletes. 🇨🇦🤙🏻
funny...coz that's exactly how I _do_ carry it !! any of the other ways and the gunwales just dig _very_ uncomfortably into your shoulder. horse for courses I guess....dunno.
I found myself setting up away from the handles to accommodate not tapping down and using my wrists. Twisting the blade out. I moved the pins toward the bow, focused on tapping and releasing the grip. It’s improved the finish, squaring, hand speed and rock out.
If you let your hands go, the blades will float in the water. Almost coming a tiny bit out. So not 5 cm deep. Isn't that the right placement?
Do you have Braca oars?
Joel is a genius. Going to try this next time I'm on the water
Good point 🇨🇦🤙🏻
Nice Scooby
👍👍
This came up just in time in the YT algorithm! Bought a new rower that mimics sculling and immediately had wrist pain. Now I know why!
And so what does that mean? Is 64 degrees good or bad?
Yes 64 degrees is good. Probably a max in sculling of about 70 and a minimum of about 63 at the catch is pretty good for most high level scullers.
What type of drill or drills teaches this type of movement? Thanks.🇨🇦🤙🏻🚣
Great explanation, thanks. 🇨🇦🤙🏻
Muchas gracias por sus videos super instructivos si pudieran ponerle subtitulos al español muchas gracias
Nailed it again man 🇨🇦🤙🏻 timing of the trunk is crucial to getting a long power application on the blade and control of the trunk on the recovery is so crucial to maintaining a solid leg drive with power. Keep these video coming.
apparently youtube thinks I don't have enough hobbies
Nailed it. 🇨🇦🤙🏻
Good thinking. Thanks 🇨🇦👍🏻
Understanding it right, this "u" shape is not want we want, as it is decellerating the boat. So whats the solution ? What means "he needs to be prepared and change direction in a coordinated fashion". Thats nice words, but nothing concrete.
Good afternoon, could you include subtitles in your videos? I don't know English well and would like to translate the text into my own language
Love these videos. Would be good to know how you get the curve overlaid on the video - I have RiM but never managed to find how to do this
Can confirm this... started 2 months ago with rowing, first only smooth for learning the technic with 14-16 strokes. Just did my first 1k and 2k test ... and pushing to speed up, sometimes I fall over my own feet, ah... "oars". And it becomes really a mess, out of rhythm. And getting exhaust and tired, it even gets worse. But I think my body (and probably more my brain) gets used to. Max. speed in a 35 kg heavy coastal C1 (polyester Virus Turbo2 of the 80s) I can go to 10.2 km ... and at least average speed I am now between 8.4-8.6 km/hr. Hope with developing my technic I can go maybe to 11-12km/hr max. speed. suppose with such a heavy boat and only 4.8 meters water length there is not much more possible. - And tks for all the vids. You are very helpful, I watch daily your short vids and learn always something, little details.
So how do you work with the water? Some of these shorts are cut weirdly
nice analogy with the conveyor belt
Is it an explorer 21 its my favourite boat ever pls answer
The blade height should be a result of correct oarlock angles. If you pull with one finger, the blade should naturally stay on the correct height all through the stroke.
Problem is what to do about while keeping blade buried.
Ok but why fish
So, which is best?
such a good point...ensuring and knowing your blades are in the locked square position _before_ you are at the catch makes everything feel much sharper ( tho I often find this more difficult at race pace )
how do you find the balance point, when i try pick my boat up it always tips to one side or the other
lol love the opening advice...keep it high up so other muppets don't hit it with their riggers...
I want to see how you do an early square of the blade during the catch please? & can I do that in rough water condition? Thanks
Yes, that is a brilliant explanation. It was a breakthrough for me today as I shaved 20 seconds off my split just by doing it.
Thank you so much. But how do i put a closet rigger into the water as i see you stand in the triangle when lifting/carrying it
Wonderful ❤advice
Whoa. Big caveat. Pause at the catch works if athlete already has sufficient balance. If not, then they’re hooking the water and doing the *opposite*, dropping the hands to get clear.
This would have been helpful to watch earlier. I just did my first one today. 7:08. I died pretty hard. I'm 183 cm 40 y/o.
Just learning to row a single and because I'm short, it's a struggle. My coach told me I should not carry it at my waist, even though that's by far the easiest and most stable way for me to do it. Any thoughts on that?
I look forward to a more detailed video with advice to help deal with these issues thanks
this guy's a good coach
Best explanation I've seen of the catch - just what I was looking for.
This is dangerous.... Cable ties are not strong enough
Great video. I am 54 years of age and have been following this advice and I have surprised myself how much faster I am going.
