I grew up in the country, my mom was an immigrant from Ireland, we ate fresh meat, fruits, and vegetables everyday!!! There is a CZcamsr who has a series about the Nordic diet. He specifically concentrates his research on what our ancestors ate, and how we are genetically predisposed by their diet.

Growing up, I lived in very isolated communities - father was a park ranger, and we lived in the Smokey Mountains, in Glacier Park, McKinley Park in Alaska, etc. He made sourdough pancakes for breakfast nearly every morning - once in awhile we'd also have bacon and eggs. He made the syrup, with a cup of sugar, a cup of brown sugar, a cup of water, and a teaspoon of maple flavoring. Us three kids would compete to see who'd eat the most pancakes . . . and none of us were ever overweight! More recently I'd been getting Cran-Raspberry juice for hubby, who deals with bladder issues and a catheter - and was dismayed to realize that there was more sugar in a bottle of juice than there is in a similar bottle of coke! Scratch THAT idea!

15+ years ago, I taught sciences, including Biology, in a private high school, and I let my students know that I didn't subscribe to the conventional "kingdom" classification, in that I didn't agree that human beings should be lumped into the "animal kingdom," that human beings were in every way a classification of its own....and I taught the course within that premise. As you were stating that you didn't have a problem with making those decisions for animals, but you did for human beings, that memory flooded back....and, suddenly, I understood why that 'revelation' was so important to me...AND, I suddenly understood that "lumping humans in with animals" was all part of the long-term conditioning. Wow!
