      Oh how much land do I have. My wife and I , along w our two kids two dogs, live in the back/top half of a duplex the other half is an antiques store right in the heart of downtown smalltown ... And I'm this close to just getting either some quail or pigeons and doing what I can on our back patio where there really isn't even room to garden, but I keep telling myself in going to start outlaw gardening whenever I can. Anyway Lindsay I hope you feel better.

      @horseblinderson4747 from my understanding, if you get coturnix quail, they are considered an exotic bird since they are originally from Japan. I've known of someone who registered a couple of goats as an emotional support animal to get around a home owners association lol. For a small patio, you could look into doing a small, vertical hydroponics set up

It is amazing that you where able to get into the new doctor so fast. Thank God for the PT lady knowing her stuff. It may not feel like it with everything that is going on right now but you are blessed! You and I are cut from a very similar cloth; from life style of choice to the aversion to pain meds (they also make me violently ill), to even a freaking chest injury, though not as major as yours but enough to understand the want to exercise your way into healing it. I know we are complete strangers but I definitely feel a kinship to you that leads me to believe that we would be homies IRL. I shed tears with you and gave you the biggest air hug evah! Thanks for the tour! For your full sun area next year you might plant sweet potatoes or corn. Sweet potatoes do especially well in poor soil and hot conditions, but they do need a long growing season. Corn needs lots of nutrition but there are varieties that only need 100 days so they are easier to fit into a rotation or short season garden. On the next garden tour please let us know what growing zone you are in and how long your growing season is.

    Hi Lindsay can i ask what you do for pain relief? Are you able to get pain meds? I'm in the UK and pain meds for EDS mainly consist of mild painkillers which are totally useless.😊

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm Před 2 dny

      @Rae-yv7md managing pain for me is a very tricky thing. My body, due to having POTs, doesn't handle narcotics well at all. They drop my blood pressure too much and make me feel incredibly ill. I meditate a lot and try to mind over matter most of it. Sometimes Ibuprofen will help a little, sometimes CBD oil will do a little too. I am lucky enough to live in a state that has now become fully legalized, so I've been looking into and exploring using "herb" to see how that helps, but with having POTs, it tends to cause a lot of dizziness and unpleasant side effects also, just not as bad as taking a painkiller.

    I've also had this insane urge to "GET OUT" this year. The aching need to find where I really belong is distracting and almost debilitating in its strength. I'm stuck in the heart of a big city, in an apartment, and the need to be in my own home with my own land is almost crushing me, it's all I can think about. I don't know that I really fluctuate at all, but I definitely feel that "Constant unknown" feeling. Being up in the air, unable to settle, having no clear path forward and feeling *stuck* is. . . Hard. Very hard. I hope that you find your way forward very soon! This isn't a pleasant feeling at all!

  • @jonathangauthier3549

    ❤ This sis my first time watching any of your videos, and as such, I know absolutely nothing you, your preferences in activities (aside from bow hunting and raising goats), or your plans for the invasives. I really appreciate that you've done as all intelligent humans have, and chose to see these briars and brambles as a windfall rather than a scourge. As such, I have a wonderful suggestion that might be a whimsical and easier alternative to digging fence post holes. I've recently seen a few videos of people using thin, freshly cut willow branches (aka switches) as growing fences. They simply put the cut end of the branch into the moist soil, at around 6 to 8 inches apart, and weave them together like a chain link fence or basket. Over time, the branches take root and grow into thicker and thicker fence walls. This would help to contain the berries to a designated area with a free (if you prune your own branches) and 100% eco-friendly alternative to metal and dead logs that would supply you with willow branches year after year. Since willow loves water, it also reduces soil erosion and excessive muddiness, which is always a bonus when tracking and hauling deer. It's also a great feed for goats and deer too!

      @Secret_Squirrel_Scottishgamer nothing spoken about in this video sounds like bipolar... I'm unaware of your background and credentials, or if you've ever researched the condition or not, but bipolar disorder is characterized by having alternating states of mania and severe depression. In the world of social media, everyone loves to toss that term around to describe anyone who changes their mind often, or has fluctuating energy levels, or has a bad day. If only society knew how damaging it is to just toss terms around all willy nilly, then maybe people would stop. But until then, no Dr. Secret Squirrel, nothing in this video points to a mental health diagnosis of bipolar disorder 1 or 2.

      @@storybrookefamilyfarm I said it was a bit like bi-polar not bi-polar itself... basically what i meant is one day you can feel great and the next feel depressed.. the day you feel great is so good you feel like your on top of the world the day your depressed well you know what I mean. The situation where you describe one moment being happy with where you are and then another moment not being happy where you are draws a few parallels with bi-polar. We have a 12+ qt insta pot in my house and I love just throwing a huge lump of whatever have fat, cartilage, as well as bone in there and letting it roll for like fifteen minutes, but then letting it sit on the keep warm setting to bask in the pressure for an hour or two or until it just settles down. Really brings out the brothy home cooked ness as well as the collagen out. Also a trick my grandfather taught me as a kid. Bag up your meat or fish or whatever in a gallon or whatever zipper bag but then put like a cup of brine soy sauce whatever you're going to use anyway in to take up the extra air space. But then deep six the bag under a sink of water and that will not only force all the last air out but your meat is now submerged and it's not exposed to any air. Will not freezer burn.

I'm aware you might have trouble doing so seeing you've already got an injury+condition. I'm currently wanting to crush leg day with RA & a bum ankle and it's really putting back my improvements I've already made. Weeds in the veg garden are only those plants i can't feed the rabbits or put in the pot for myself. Animal wise i pretty much agree, quail are cute, but messy (more so then ducks even?), with fiddely little bones and the eggs gave me tummy upset. Chickens are good for eggs and turning a compostheap, just protect them well since everything loves chicken. Smaller animals and breeds are easier when you get older, are alone or small household and since they all need a friend (or 2, 3, ...) might as well get smaller animals so they'll feel safer from larger numbers and need the same space as half or less of the big breeds/livestock. I had bantam chickens, shetland and soay cross sheep and still raise some dwarf rex for meat (no land anymore for the rest at least for now). Never wanted the big breeds of chicken, sheep or rabbit due to not needing large amounts of meat at once or wanting to wrestle an animal weighing more then me, they are strong enough already when weighing 1/2 - 2/3 of me as adults.

    So relatable. Im in Missouri and am just starting growing flowers. I’ve been to the farmer’s market 4 times and all in all, I’ve not made anything. The flowers are melted and wilted within the first 15 minutes, and even if they do stay decent looking, everyone walks past them and races towards ready-made food vendors. As a empath when we're around a farmers market or an vendors event it's very draining. So many people with all sorts of energy can be draining so I do understand. I usually set up and tear down for all our vendor events, as my wife opens our flea market booth so we don't lose any sales.

      Tracy and I are both empaths, so we both get pretty drained from being around large groups of people. I've found that spending time near water seems to help me recharge quite a bit

    I bought 6 Flemish Giant rabbits and two New Zealand. Right away the Flemish Giant we called Gordan Ramsay was showing signs of being extremely sick, I paid $600 to try to save him per what the Vet charged.... He died anyways, and I bawled my eyes out. I bought them to be meat rabbits 🤦‍♀️ but nobody told me Flemish Giants are like puppies 🥺. I could have ate the New Zealand but a Timber Rattle snake came and killed all of the other rabbits 😵‍💫

      @GeorgiaWoodsHomesteading the New Zealands are a fantastic breed. That's the breed we raise. They grow out quickly, and have a really nice flavor. Their pelts can also be utilized for crafts too

    How large is your family? Is it just you and your husband or kids? Asking because I am curious whether you grow all your own food and how much acreage is needed. Thank you

    • @storybrookefamilyfarm
      @storybrookefamilyfarm Před 26 dny

      We have 2 acres of land, and we use about 3/4 of an acre for homesteading. We are a family of 3, but on this amount of land, it wouldn't be a problem to feed a lot more people. We raise a lot of our own meat, we hunt and fish also. We grow the majority of our own vegetables, and as time goes on and fruit trees mature, we will grow most of our own fruit too

    I’m 54 and was just diagnosed last year. I was involved in a pretty severe car accident in my early 20’s and I think my doctors (and myself to an extent) sort of blamed my chronic pain on that, when in actuality the hEDS has been the primary factor in my widespread aches and pains (as well as the other issues like fatigue, irregular heartbeat/PVC/MVP etc that I thought were separate issues entirely). It was just missed for so long due to other compounding issues. But once I was diagnosed EVERYTHING made so much sense! In a way, even though what I was doing was appropriate, it was just such a relief to know I wasn’t somehow malingering. Because I was truly beginning to doubt my own experience, and started to think my problems were more based in my brain than in my body. I do wish it hadn’t taken so damn long to recognize, but I’m also profoundly grateful that I now know.
