It looks nice, but when are you gonna put the top floor on?
Unreal work/finish mate.
Cheers🍻
Short, sweet, and to the point. Thanks for the video. I'll comment again once the job is complete. I'll either rage at my own incompetence, or feel confident and satisfied I can do another room! Either way, I appreciate the video.
your comments had me laughing out loud🤣 very entertaining way of getting knowledge👍🏻
I only watched to the first 41 seconds. I hate to say this but it definitely seems to hold water. The customers you go out of your way to help ….feel bad for...etc. are the ones that you regret ever taking the job. Hearing your 41 second story it sounds so familiar to times I have tried to "help" people. In my experience tell people what you are going to do and then do it and get paid for your services.
That is a gorgeous floor.
Hahaha. Just about to this for the first time. Good thing I didn't find these guys first!
I have very old pine floor with uneven floor boards, so very hard to get the grime and paint marks of it unless i go across the floor boards instead of going diagonally or along the direction they are put down, I started with a 24 grit which helped as well. i am now left with a few spots grime in-between the planks where its lower but nothing major. I have now moved to grit 40 , which is where i am confused.... do i start going diagonally ? if so do i always go diagonally when i move to a finer sand paper ?

So sand at 45 degree first and a quick final pass with the grain? Or 45 degrees first and then switch to finish sander?
Beautiful work sir nicely done sir a perfect job sir nice 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
How do you stop picture frames from showing where you edge at? The stain will show up a little darker around the sides
Amazing thanks so much for sharing . Great tutorial. ❤
I’ve started with the EZV sander and it does not want to take anything off the floors. It’s making me crazy. I went to rent the drum sander and they talked me into this other one. I don’t know if I’m using the machine wrong or it’s the wrong machine for the job, but it is not going well.
Homie obviously went for the cheapest price..pay peanuts....you get monkeys!
It's really stupid to argue about this. DIY job is better because it puts money in your pocket. Do you know what you should spend money on? Listing and contracts with an agent. Title search with a title officer. Appraisal that your bank will accept for a mortgage applicatoin. Permitting with an architect. Topographical soil analysis with a geotechnical engineer. Surveying from a professional that can communicate with the department of construction and inspections... We can argue about the value of blue collar vs DIY. But DIY can never replace white collar work and that's what we should be saving our money for.
And conversely, AI will replace much of white collar work and but won’t touch blue collar work.
Put the weight on lol wtf
Thanks!
Thank you!
use a lifting belt if you are going to solo carry things
I advise people to make sure contractors have current licenses and permits. And tell them to stop half of the work, not happy, and my best mate next time read the contract forms.
Please come save mine 😭
Are you far? 😂
@@HowToSandAFloor I’m in southern Illinois, United States lol
Yes! Old floorboards are very much worth restoring.
Contractors need a website where they can report customers who don't like to pay. This way other contractors can check and see if there had been any issues with this customer. No contractor would agree to work for that chump.
Well it's the contractors floor until you pay him. If you didn't like his work, then let him take it all back. What seems to be the problem?
Im having a full on laugh watching this constructive criticism and learning at the same time 😂
What Sander is that?
What changes colour of this wood? Gap filler or base coat (akka sealer akka conditioner akka 1st coat akka primer akka impregnation) ?
Polyurethane on old hardwood floors will ruin them
Sooo after we've litterly puttd
Dang I just re finished my floors and the poly was bad or something so we had to start all the way over and got it looking fantastic but noticed all the ripples, now I know how to fix it but don’t want to do the whole process again for a third time😭😭😭it looks perfect minus the ripples but it’s driving me crazy
True
Fantastic work as usual! ❤
Don't you ruin your LUNGS with all the airborne sanding dust?
How long do you need floor sander for usually? I know staining etc has dry times but switching between grits sanding should be fairly speedy like few hours? Rental place has 1 day $79, days, or week price $316. Thinking about doing few small bedrooms and 12x20 living room.
You’ll need it for the week imo. It all depends on the size the condition the type of wood etc, it’s hard to say but I imagine getting it for the week willl be the best bet
I’m still in absolute shock of the rental prices in the US
It doesn’t sound remotely pathetic to be stressed. When you’re someone who takes pride in your work and someone screws you over it’s horrible. He clearly never intended to pay anything over the deposit which is why he only wanted to pay a 30% deposit. He’s a scum bag and like many other wealthy people he thinks nothing of screwing people over.
They look amazing. Our house was built in the 1920s and the flooring is like this. We tried to sand it and do it ourselves and the result was meh. Having watched your videos I can see what things we did wrong so how to improve next time. The one big issue we had is that one board needed replacing completely and they don’t make the boards the same size now so the one that my husband replaced it with isn’t as wide as the original and sticks up higher. Do you know if there is anywhere you can get original ones to switch out?
I usually support contractors taking back their stuff when people don’t pay. This case is completely something else though. 1) we sanded our boards down and did them ourselves. That finish is about the same as we got having never done it before. 2) he’s been aggressive pushing into his house and the money was not paid for a good reason and 3) usually they are taking back the materials they bought because it belongs to them. It’s crazy that he thinks he can take up the flooring that was already there. The guy was offered 50% for that job which is far more than it’s worth.
Well done sir
What is the first product that you apply to the floors (prior to the finish)?
As if they put the pressure of refinishing this floor on the janitor, that is crazy !
We used one of these on an old oak floor . Leveled the floor super well and efficiently.
Boy, I’ve learned my lesson the hard way many times many times. I hired a nurse and this amazing nurse shows up on my doorstep and I questioned why she’s retired at such a young age. Well, turns out she was a nurse anesthesiologist who was fired for drug divers, she would go onto drug me, unconscious and rob the house, including taking my pain medication which I had just been in a car accident. She didn’t leave me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and glass of milk for compensation and of course the foam because I was completely helpless and blind , and this happened on Friday even though I got a police report I couldn’t refill my pain medication for days. I was an absolute fucking agony. I don’t even know what to say. Somehow she ended up admitting it after round of questioning, but yet she somehow was never taken to court. Don’t ask me how that happened and no, I never got any of my valuables back Mistake number two I thought mistake number one I would really think out this process and hired a preacher to help me move right because there’s no way a preacher is gonna rob you. I thought boy was wrong. Should’ve realized the guy didn’t know what the fuck he was doing when he destroyed my dollhouse and Valuables from my mother he will go onto not only 50% of what he was moving, but was actually caught by the neighbors robbing the house three days later and then he tried to get extra money out of me. Are you freaking kidding me? I later tried to get some painting done I couldn’t afford real painters, so I hired some people off of craigslist however, I’m blind for the most part. I have some vision, but not enough to realize they had actually painted over part of the ceiling the floor and apparently left all the tape up which I was told. I’m so freaked out at the possibility of being robbed and taking advantage of that I don’t have any people working for me I was even robbed by a best friend who got involved in drugs so no I don’t let anybody in my house except for two people that I absolutely trust this is led to problems last year. I was basically half paralyzed and couldn’t really do anything, but was still reluctantly did not want to hire anybody because I no longer trust anyone it really sucks
I love this!
I believe that on the lagler website they updated saying that you can sand from 15 to 45 degrees. However, in this example sanding straight and going from a screen after the 100 grit with the hummel it's not strong enough to take out the chatter marks in the floor. To someone who uses the hummel you will always have chatter marks but it is important to use the steel plate on your buffer before pad amd screen. The 60 grit buffer paper after my 80 grit on the hummel is how I take out my chatters . After that I use a 60 grit screen and pad on a 16 in bona plastic plate . Then I hit it with a 100 screen . For stain and poly is a whole different process which also depends on customers . Also only have 11 years experience and I can do from demo to final coat but am an hourly employee . So basically I just follow instructions. I dont have a boss who ever shows up to job but to take measurements the rest is up to me basically so I wish I had the courage to do my own company but I don't know how to market or get customers or even make the bids . If I did I would have so much better of a life. I could really use advice be I am an a truely amazing worker if anyone have advice or needs an installer or sander . Not that it's impressive but even lvp I can install 650 -800 sq foot in a day which is apartments size and very average and I think lvp is a disgrace to flooring but good for side work Ona slow day. Any advice boss?
Always go with your gut..You said he was attorney? 1st major clue.. Next time don't walk run..
This wood looks basically identical to what's in our hall and lounge, do you know what species it is? Did a great job on it, makes me want to get ours done!
Your floor sanders look much better than the ones you get from Smyths Hire!🤦♂️
Are you my upstairs neighbour? These noises sound quite familiar...
