    • @Ultimate_Aviator
      @Ultimate_Aviator Před 4 lety

      Perhaps you haven’t been out in the desert sticks very much. There are plenty of ant hills out there. This was just one, so I’m sure that other animals were just fine. It’s not like doing this is all of a sudden going to cause a mass extinction. Also, this immediately vaporized the ants, so there was no suffering. This is much more humane than the pest control you probably use at your home, and definitely much more humane than the ant poison many people use at their houses to get rid of them. So please find something else to complain about that actually matters. 🙂

      @@leslieclark6237 I totally understand where you are coming from. I don't agree with it, but respect your opinion. Now allow me to offer one point of clarification. I personally do not call burning ants an art. That's not the reason that we did this, nor did we take pleasure in killing the ants. That was not our main goal. What we call art is what the ants do themselves. The way that they dig their homes underground through the tunnel systems is what I see as the art, and quite a fascinating part of nature. The main reason that we did this was for modeling the art, and casting of the underground system. That's what we took pleasure in. Even though it may have sounded like we enjoyed watching the ants burn up, that wasn't what we were pleasuring in. I hope that clears some things up!

      Yes I definitely agree. More aluminum would have been nice. Unfortunately, we used as much as we could. Our crucible was not that big, and we fit as much aluminum in it as we could. That’s why we weren’t able to cast the whole hole. And you could even see in the casting how there was a very thin part, meaning that the liquid was still flowing down and not stopping up. So you are definitely right. If we continue to do this in the future, we will look into getting a bigger crucible so that we can use more aluminum and cast the entire network.

    A very wonderful performance. I have loved this piece since I first heard a CD of its heartfelt initial 1977 live performance (recorded by an orchestra comprised of young music students of the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan, conducted by the frail 81-year old Hanson himself). czcams.com/video/kIpudL1_qLg/video.html I have heard other recordings by professional orchestras that are technically superior, but don't really capture the emotion of the piece. To me, yours seems to be right in the middle. There are some intonation issues in certain passages, but the true emotion comes through, and that, in the end, is what really counts in my opinion.. My thanks to the orchestra and conductor involved.
