Hello AJ Srmek Is the job of investment banking very risky? I'm asking myself this question because I'm aware from a certain perspective that as an investment banker you invest millions of euros that belong to your clients. On this basis, there is a dangerous possibility that if you lose money as an investment banker, then....... 🤦👹🤦👹🤦👹 (there is possibly a risk). That's why I'm asking whether this job is risky or not.

Memorizing 200 formulas won`t make you a good investor. AI/ML already got these inbuilt and can use them in miliseconds. Thats about the CFA.

The worst thing is its become pretty obsolete these days. Massive investment in time & personal life sacrifice to only find out no one cares if you got it or not (Europe speaking here) and indeed I`ve met quite a lot of really smart guys in the industry that have a deep dislike about CFA charterholders citing them to be arrogant and assholes in general. At the end, its a proof you can take an exam, thats it - in 2Y time you`d have forgotten about 85% of it. HRs in here will take someone with experience/uni degree over a charterholder anytime. And yet - its not a waste of time as you`d learn a lot but if aiming at it to build a career - better abort now.

University of Chicago and the arts? lol okay. I left as soon as I heard that.

Do you need a finance degree?

I’m 30 with no degree 10 years of accounting experience, been moving up the corporate ladder with my current employer and now facing a road block where I cannot grow no more within the company which is why I am now finishing up my BBA in Finance, which should be done next May. This seems like crazy low study time to me. I test in July. I’m currently a younger FC (27 years old). I’ve never failed any standardized exam and found most of the series exam straight forward. Idk why this one has got me really worried. I’m studying so much and worried I will fail first time. I’m making lots of sacrifices and hope it’s not for nothing

I'm HOPING the PE cert is more useful than the Private Market & Alt Invest cert that was released. Thankfully my firm will just reimburse me once I complete the PE cert so I don't mind shelling out the $900 in the mean time.

Retail banking is awful. Another terrible thing is the job security, I myself got laid off in March from a firm-wide restructuring. Retail banking jobs are super disposable. I'm looking to move into a non-sales position going forward!
