Great time in Heise, Idaho flying to and from a few different private airfields with permission from the owners. This video highlights two of six flights that day before my camera batteries died in the cold. The trike is a Power2Fly Fenix XC Duo tandem trike with a Vittorazi Cosmos 300.
My Longest Paramotor Flight Yet on the EOS Quattro!

The EOS Quattro has been an amazing cross-country machine! On this flight I flew for 2-hours and 70 miles averaging about 425 liters per hour on a 26m BGD Luna 2 with an average speed of about 35 miles per hour. On this particular morning I abandoned my first launch. In Pocatello the winds either blow too hard to fly or not at all. Some light and variable wind days can be extremely difficult to...

What an amazing engine! The EOS Quattro burns half the fuel of my MY20 Moster 185 dual start and more than half the fuel of my Moster 185 Factory R! It makes more power than the standard Moster 185, and it’s whisper quiet! In this video I have an amazing flight over Pocatello, Idaho with the clouds cascading off of the mountains! Check it out!

The question is: How many hours will the Polini perform well? It´s a real unreliable engine if you are not a mechanic, and it´s better to always have some spare cylinders in stock. These 2 stroke engines are simply not designed for changing altitude or atmospheric conditions. Carburetor settings are always only a compromise as long as you can´t adjust the mixture to the altitude by EGT. Polini only can sell these engines in significant numbers because there is no alternative on the market.
@@Nicmics we will soon find out how it does.

450ft/min yikes 😬
Looking back at my notes, my test was sea level with 16m disco at 115kg standard moster 140cm 2.87 with 550ft/min. So your weight an test altitude is probably pretty fair.
You spinning 140's on both?
Yes! Same 5 degree straight pitch too.
@trentwhitney8346 nice, if you want to try the standard moster spinning a 140 you can fly my MavMax. I'm curious if the Factory is really worth it, my standard moster spinning a 140 climbs great!
@@DesertMountainAdventures awesome thanks!
Many thanks @trent or sharing your experience , on 6:50 the message has typo error the RPM should be 8500 to 9000 isn't it ?
My 202 has a max rpm of 8500 in the manual. Maybe the older version would make 9000? Thanks for the kind comments!
Where do you live at?
Pocatello, Idaho
This was also a durability test, 3 min at WOT straight is asking a lot so why I made the comment. Notice I didnt say what they're capable or rated for, just pointing out WOT over minutes is a challenge in general. I'm just about 120 kg full tank, I burn 3.5 L/hr consistently. I also have it tuned properly more often than not.
Agreed! I think WOT for 3-minutes is pretty hard on any machine.
And..... both are much better than EOS :)
Sadly, that currently appears to be true. :(
I like the test. I went from a Nitro 200 to a PAP factory R and there was a world of difference except for the fuel economy. A little disappointed in the R fuel economy..
@@gsp2west agreed! The Factory R has been my favorite minus the fuel consumption. The Polini has been super efficient.
Hi ! I'm a french pilot with a PAP mini trike and a Thor 202 polini engine. I confirm your impressions : this thor 202 is the best polini engine. I fly with a Dudek Warp2 (20 m2) and a total weight of 140/145Kg (all included with gasoline and glider). I'm under 4l/h all trimed (50 km/h) and under 5l/h full untrim (65 km/h). Ans as you said ... very linear delivering power !!! Thx for your video.
@@diegodelavega30 thanks! I’m excited to fly the Polini 202 on some long cross country flights!
I have a buddy that got one which had tons of issues before it blew a head gasket in less than 10hrs. The dealer that sold it basically told him to "deal with it" and that "he didn't have time to deal with his issues", then refused to answer any requests for warranty replacement. EOS really needs to work on vetting their dealer network in the US, as their current dealer is an asshole.
Man, that's a bummer. The response from my dealer and EOS has been awesome! I've since sold the Quattro and will be reviewing a Polini 202. I may buy another Quattro in the future. Cool motor!
The best thing about 202 is that there's a self adjusting smarcarb for it, giving it all the advantages of a fuel injection without any of the cons
I've researched that a bit. I may actually try one if I have problems with tuning. Thanks for the info!
I would love to have the 202 but seen one melt a piston at a fly in and my flying partner just pulled the head off his for inspection to find the piston almost melted in the center. Just too much to try and get right on those tunes so I have to stick with the simplicity of the Moster, even though it drinks fuel. Can't wait for your fuel comparison!
I'm flying an EGT sensor on it for that very reason, so I don't melt a piston. I'll conduct some more comparisons soon! Thanks!
How heavy is the whole paramotor?
Factory R is wicked if it's making similar thrust. Good call on tuning the 202 to optimal. I swapped a PWK onto my 202 to gain access to an array of pilots and needles to better optimize the tune; keyword is "at all RPMs." The Factory R has that price tag, where a 202 is nearly the cost of a Moster estart.
I totally agree!
I have the Eos Quattro delivered to me at the end of January 2024. I fitted it myself to a P2F Evo8 replacing a Simo250. On the last but one flight I had a black fine coating on the prop and assumed this was just belt slippage rubber. On the next flight that took me to the 10hr service I again had black coating on my prop which again included fine rubber from belt slippage even though the belt was tight. On the 10 hr Eos Quattro service I found oil leakage from the backplate seal ( pull start side ) as you had. This was getting drawn onto the belt by the air movement causing the slippage despite good tension. I have tightened down the bolts on the plate to seal the gasket better and will monitor with a run on the ground ( as I fly it in a P2F Colibri trike this is fairly easy). Otherwise loving the Quattro. What I am not loving is the 3 blade E-Prop. It creates bad "harmonics" which becomes really annoying in flight. I posted a video in the Quattro owners group on FB (Paul Flyingfergus Coleman). Having spoken to Helix they have tested multiple props on the Quattro. I have a twin blade Helix prop they believe will give me similar thrust without the harmonics. Should arrive late this week so i can compare.
Nice, did you get rid of the Quattro?
@@williamrayburn5623 yes, I sold the Quattro to try the Polini. I’d like to try out several motors. Curious which is truly best. I will probably get another Quattro at some point. I really liked the Quattro and their customer service.
Hey congrats!! I have a xenet with the cosmos but I’m at 200ft above sea level. Hey, is it me or does it seam your A-assist line was under tension during flight? Might be the angle we are seeing it but I feel like it should have a little slack in it.
@@johngemmi3576 thanks! No there is slack, but on my first flight it was a little too much for inflation.
@@trentwhitney8346 gotcha! When I first took off in my xenet my an assist was tight. Had to loosen it mid flight. Very carefully!! Blue skies and keep up the great content

You and I have a lot in common. As a brand new pilot I bought my Scout factory R 2 years ago. I have 188 hours on it and planned on getting the EFI but reconsidered. Today I ordered the Quattro. I’m sooo excited!!! It sounds AMAZING
@@fbrummitt awesome! I love my Factory R, but the Quattro is the best cross-country cruiser I’ve flown to date.
Some freinds and I ran 503s on microlights. They had slight misses during cruise as the engine loaded up with crankcase fuel. My engine never had that problem & ran amazingly trouble free without loading up & missing. A difference was I had mounted the 503 inverted. The condensed crankcase fuel drops to the pistons eliminating any rich miss and probably helped cool the underside of the piston crown as well as increasing lubrication to the wrist pin bearings & rings. I also chose the single carb/single ignition 503, eliminating carb balance issues & essentially being a derated engine, allowed me to run at 100% power as long as I needed with less concern. I also found CHT gauges more useful than EGT on air cooled 2 strokes.
I had a bailey 4 stoke paramoter. I know mark who knows a lot about engine design. So after 30 hours it suddenly started blowing oil out of breather. Which went into carb. So much so the engine stopped. But not before 30 hours. So mush so I have a wing covering oil... half the oil dumpt in 30 min flight. Any way Mark said basically they were try ing to push to much power out of a over bored cylinder with air cooling and probably cause the barrel to warp, hence the ring don't seal any more. So took it back to bailey 4 times. New gasket, then the new head, then something else, then new bore. Fixed. But at the end of the day push it to much again then same problem so sold it. Loved the pur. Now on a moster
Ps he said he thought the EOS would suffer same problem
Great maintece! Trent, can you compare the vibration levels between EOS and Moster? The EOS design does not include balance shafts to reduce vibration, probably because of weight minimization.
@@AndrewGlobus it still vibrates, but the frequency of a 4-stroke is less noticeable. Thanks!
I had a bailey. It did not have enough power for me; the EOS looks great improvement. I now fly a moster dual start and hat the noise of a two stroke. Drive me MAD!!! Four stoke always started easy.
Awesome

Thanks for the awesome video the immersion when going from a topic to the actual footage right there was awesome thanks for posting
@@Zwebx-oz3nf thanks!
Hi Trent, Are these 4 stroke motors popular, it seems not many CZcams people use them?
This is a new motor. I think I’m the only one that has really posted anything on CZcams about it.
oil issue has never been solved from day one.
I think they have it solved now, but it was definitely a rough start. What kept me in my Quattro so long was the amazing customer service from EOS. I recently sold my Quattro as I want to review the Polini 202 against my Favtory R, and I have a garage full of Paramotors lol. I will likely get another Quattro, but I want to check out the Polini for a little while.
Thanks, Trant! Data on fuel consumption and engine RPM levels on different wings is very useful. Cruise flight on the EPIC 2 is indeed more comfortable but more slow.
No problem! Thanks!

Nice comparison between the factory R and the EOS, I currently have a MY19 moster, and an air conception dual start nitro 200. And I’m going to Florida end of this month to get my tandem exemption at one up adventures. Cosmos 300 is my next purchase on a fly products strike
Awesome! Good luck! Thanks!

Hi Trent, Great video, thank you for all the good information you provide in all your videos. I am about to get into PPG and are looking to start buying equipment. In your opinion, would the EOS 4strke be a good choice for trike flying ?
Awesome thanks! It depends on your elevation and weight. If you're as big as me (6'2" 245 pounds) taking off at nearly 5,000 feet above sea level, I would consider a Factory R or Polini 202 on a trike due to the extra weight. If it's a dedicated trike then the Cosmos 300 or Polini 303. If you're at sea level, you can use the standard Moster or EOS Quattro with no issues with the added weight of the trike.
Awesome flight and video
Thanks!
Looks awesome!!
Thanks bro!
Is it still under part 103? Seems like you need a sport pilot license to fly that thing.
Yes! Without the electric start its just under 254 pounds. I wish I had the electric start, but I'd rather have the power and be legal.
bro, how much fuel it will consume in 1 hour flight?
It depends on the altitude. Where I’m at 4700 feet I consume 3.3-3.8L an hour. At sea level some people are burning 2.2-2.8L an hour
I think i want to install a dual carb kit on my fenix 503 , since a have the single one , some people say it will run not that properly others say big improvement. , i use a helix h40f 1,60 R-GMZ -07-3 . Do you use the same prop ?
Yes! Same propeller. I know the dual has more power.
Where can i find the cockpit ?
I bought the cockpit from Power2Fly with the trike. Boise Paramotors can probably get it for you.
May you tell me which Type of Prop you are using?
Sure! The Quattro has a 140cm e-prop. The Rotax 503 has a 160cm Helix 3-blade The Factory R has a 140cm Helix 2-blade.
i have a EOS 100 booster ill sell for $ 600 older model but runs good
I wish the EOS was EFI Cheers
I believe it is coming. Boise Paramotors could probably chime in with more information.
Nice machine. Good thing you have an original 503. For the RMZ 500 there is absolutely no documentation and info about spare parts. The fact that it is a Russian Company, with all those restrictions because of the Ukrainian war, it is going to be hell to repair it when something breaks on that engine. To bad Rotax does not make 2 strokes anymore. The 582 is also out of production. I wish the manufactures switched over to Hirth engines.
Agreed! At least I can get parts for the 503. I wish they still made both of these engines, 503 and 582. Thanks!
Which direction does the propeller spin? Counter-clockwise?
Yes - counterclockwise.
Thank you for this comparison, I appreciated your mentality: "if I want to fly, I have to do mechanics" on all engines it is a reality but having had one of the first EOS 150 with a lot of problems... I think that this brand should hold back its production even longer... Although I am rather a fan of the 4-stroke, the vibrations could affect its reliability. In any case, happy to follow you and good luck. (this is a translation from French)
Thanks! I'll keep you updated.
Im not a big EOS fan, and I would still like them to succeed and make a good product. Basically any PPG engine maker, we all win when they continue to improve and compete with each other. Its a tough business, because the majority of us are value oriented and all these engines reflect this.
