The Cambridge Latin American Research in Education Collective are students and alumni of the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, who want to bring together researchers working on Latin American contexts and all those interested in hearing more about it. Constituting a space for Latin American perspectives, it aims to make visible the region’s knowledge production and current debates linked to education research towards the diversification and decolonisation of academia.

Launch Event of the Special Issue ‘Paulo Freire - Global Educator’ in the journal Globalisation, Societies, and Education, Volume 22, Issue 1 (2024).

Supported by the Cambridge Latin American Research in Education Collective (CLAREC), Athe Cambridge University Brazilian Society and Universidade Emancipa.
The genesis of this special issue can be traced back to a confluence of circumstances that vividly illustrate the spaces and encounters where individuals gathered to engage with the thoughts of Paulo Freire. The idea for this special edition emerged during the celebration of the centenary of Paulo Freire’s birth and the collaborations and relationships that evolved from an initiative at the University of Cambridge, as detailed in the introduction to this special edition.

the continuation of the summary of the video is below: ..roles that science has had in contemporary societies and has motivated calls for stakeholder’s participation in the processes of scientific research. This new field, though, has neglected the educational practices in which science is embedded, and how this new pluralist and democratic ethos can be extended to the classrooms and how the classroom can enter discussions of science. Paulo Freire, working in a very different context, also raised issues that are being debated today in the context of political philosophy of science, but did so with a special focus on pedagogy and education. I want to present different topics on Freire’s pedagogy and how they are directly relevant to issues of concern in the literature today, not just in an abstract way but also in a performative way, in the sense that Freire was also writing from a Latin American standpoint and from the point of view of the oppressed and the have-nots: his thought is not just an invitation on how to think certain issues but also an example of how think from our immediate context, how not to disengage abstract philosophizing with the vital issues that we confront as human beings. "

muy interesante, nada más que es un poco paradójico hablar de decolonización latinoamericana en inglés, con estudiantes latinos... De todos modos parece una buena iniciativa.
Colonización no es lo mismo que colonialidad. Colonización siembra la semilla de la colonialidad mental en nuestra gente. Aunque nos hayamos independizado de la colonización, la semilla de la colonialidad queda en nuestro cerebro. Por eso tenemos que descolonizarnos permanentemente para liberarnos de estas estructuras. Debemos utilizar los mismos lenguajes que se han utilizado para colonizarnos, el Ingles, el Español, Frances. Es lo que hablamos, al menos que hablemos algún lenguaje de nuestra Abya Yala.
