    Although you mentioned the perpetual licence for Photomator, there’s something you didn’t mention. i’m not sure if it was just me, as I know companies can tailor deals to individuals, but I bought Photomator very recently on the lifetime plan and I was offered two different prices depending on whether I bought it through the app on my phone or on my Mac. If I bought it through the phone, they wanted £119.99. However, luckily, I checked on the Mac as well and got it for £79.99 a £40 or approximately $52 difference! if anyone’s thinking of buying it, it’s worth checking if you have a Mac. as the licence is valid across all devices, I’m not sure why there would be a price difference.

    Why can’t they make the masking tools in Pixelmator the same as Photomator? OK there may be reasons for some differences but surely the same AI tools could be used and the brilliant edge detection of Pixelmator would be great in Photomator. And why the red mask indicator in Photomator but “marching ants” in Pixelmator?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132 Před 3 dny

      I believe the marching ants is because Pixelmator pro is supposed to a photoshop alternative and photoshop still uses marching ants for its selections. I do agree that I prefer the red overlay. As for the masking tools, its probably to differentiate the product and get people to pony up for the photomator subscription. No other reason I can think of! 😊?

      @@takebetterphotos8132 You’re probably right, they want you to buy both. I have both but only because I bought Pixelmator Pro first before Photomator was available, I think. I have only just bought Photomator and probably wouldn’t have bothered with pixelmator if they had both been available before. As a warning to anyone else reading this, I only bought Photomator a couple of weeks ago. It works across Mac and iOS but for some reason the price was cheaper if I bought it on the Mac! I think monthly or annually were the same but for a lifetime the iOS app wanted to charge me £119.99 but on the Mac it was only £79.99. £40 or about $52 cheaper just for buying on a different device, it works on all of them though! Don’t know if that’s a mistake on their part or not but if you have multiple devices check the price on each.

After old Lr5 , the DAM system was hard to use . Too old to learn it all again , or just can not be bothered Are the Luminar adds annoying? Is it worth paying to use the app to get away from adds ? I'm not sure how to ask this question properly, but one thing I wanted in pixelmator pro was the ability to use a green screen function with layers. I know there's a term for it, but I don't know what it is. Basically, I'll add a green mask over something in pixelmator pro and then bring it to final cut pro and use the green screen effect to add a layer over the green (or whatever color I choose to change). Is this something that's in photomator?

    • @takebetterphotos8132
      @takebetterphotos8132 Před 6 dny

      My understanding is the photo or video would be shot with the green background and pixelmator will be able to remove it with its remove color feature. I don't believe this feature is in Photomator, only Pixelmator as it is its compositing tool.

    Damn, I'm glad I found this video. Very rarely someone making Affinity *ADVANCED* tutorials that very easy to understand not just to experts but also to beginners, because these are still new for someone who using adobe for years like me. But as you can see, many of us are looking for alternatives and I'm using Affinity now, its similar like Adobe, but need a little adjustment with the features that are not as easy and details as new Adobe, for example I noticed we still need to manually using selection brush tool while in new version of Adobe we only need 1 click button and the software will automatically select the object that we want. In the other hand I feel nostalgic using Affinity like the good ol' days in Adobe, but still, despite many "worst things" that's happening in Adobe right now, they brought many good features that Affinity should follow. Once again, thanks for making this video. And I'll subscribe your channel for Affinity contents, nothing wrong to learn from beginning again, because I adore this software right now😁. And I believe Affinity will be huge in the future and many agencies and corps will be using it, so when that time is come I already be prepared😁

      Glad you found it helpful. You summarized perfectly the pros and cons. Now that Affinity is bought over by Canva I believe the pace of change will be faster...basic things such as one-click selection tool SHOULD have been there long ago. Frankly the main differentiator of Adobe is really is its AI tools and generative AI. "And I believe Affinity will be huge in the future and many agencies and corps will be using it". --This is true people won't use software if they don't see a bright future and constant development. That's something again Canva can help with.

Then I imported the resulting raw file into photomator. Following this, I exported the photo from photomator as a jpeg, without any tweaks. I also exported a jpeg from pure raw 4, from the original file. The photomator result was notably softer than the pure raw jpg. This has me think there's indeed something going on. I like the retouch tool, but I wish DXO would let it remember different settings for clone and repair. I often flip back and forth between them, and the tool retains the same setting for both modes. Thank you for the clear explanation.

      That's a good point. Hopefully DXO is listening. They could also add a help info to give users a brief overview the difference between each mode.

    Thanks fore the demo. If you have used the generarive AI, which you mentioned, you come to see that DxO is far, far behind in retouching tools.. The Retouch Tool is really old technology similar to what Lightroom was offering 10 years ago. I never use Photolab retouch tools as I have access to Lightroom and Photoshop. Given the advances Adobe has made in the last year I do not know if I will bother upgrading to Photolab 8. Maybe just get the Pure Raw plugin for its superior RAW processing.
