Please forgive the speech-to-text format of my video; I have APD (Dyslexia), which makes speaking difficult for me. However, I can chat face-to-face about coins all day-go figure! I'm a collector rather than a coin dealer, and I'm tired of seeing people give up on the hobby because they feel ripped off. There are many videos out there spreading misinformation just to get clicks, without realizing the harm they're doing to this hobby that I love. My challenge to myself is to provide honest, well-researched information. Please feel free to comment on my videos, and if you think I got the information wrong, please let me know so I can learn.
I also enjoy restoring old items, focusing on sympathetic restorations to stop further deterioration, though I do full restorations as well. You'll see these videos too. Once I have enough of these, I might start another channel, but in the meantime, if you're into coins, feel free to ignore the restoration videos.

Unwrapping Surprise Coins: 1878 S Morgan Dollar Revealed!
Hi there, CZcams! Today, I want to share with you another coin I recently acquired. This one was a freebie for helping someone out, so it's a nice surprise every time I get coins from this person. They always wrap them in brown paper, making it feel like Christmas whenever I open them.
As you can see, it's a Morgan Dollar in decent condition. There's some light scratching, but it shows very little wear overall.
Let's talk about the details on the coin.
On the reverse the legend around the edge notes the country as the United States of America, with the phrase "In God We Trust," which appears on most U.S currency. We also see the national bird of America, the bald eagle. The eagle is holding an olive branch and arrows, looking left towards the olive branch symbolizing in search of peace, but ready to defend if necessary. Beneath the laurel wreath, there's an "S" mint mark, indicating that it was minted in San Francisco. The denomination is one dollar.
On the Reverse of the coin, you can see the date, 1878, which is significant as it's the first year the Morgan Dollar was introduced. We see Lady Liberty. The model for Lady Liberty was a schoolteacher named Anne Williams. The emblem "E Pluribus Unum" is also featured, which translates to "Out of Many, One." This phrase signifies the unity of the states forming one nation. The Morgan Dollar is named after its engraver, George T Morgan. The date 1878 is also present, again marking its first year of issue.
Now, let's talk about its value. The worth of American coinage largely depends on its condition, assessed using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70. Uncirculated coins are often referred to as mint state (M.S). Given the light scratches and minimal wear, I would grade this coin as Extra Fine (EF) to Almost Uncirculated (AU), possibly around AU 53.
The silver content in this coin is worth approximately £17 in the UK, and its overall value is around £20, or roughly $25. While it's not a particularly rare or pristine example, it's still a valuable addition to my collection.
Did I get a good deal? Absolutely, because I collect coins and don't plan on selling this one. Grading is great if you're selling, but for me, it's all about the collection.
As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. I enjoy reading them and learning more about our shared hobby. If you enjoyed this video, please feel free to subscribe to my channel.

Let's talk about the 1844 Farthing, a coin that occupies a special place in numismatic history as the rarest year Farthing coin. You don't have to hunt for variations, errors, or nuances; just knowing the year is enough. Considered a key date coin, its rarity stems from its low mintage. For new collectors, Farthings in general are excellent starting points coins due to their accessibility in lo...
Restoring 1920s P.P. Payne Shop Countertop Ribbon Cutter

This early shop counter ribbon cutter was typically used by retailers to wrap parcels with thin ribbon or sometimes string. Manufactured by PP Payne and Sons Ltd, a Nottingham-based company that specialized in retail packaging, this cutter is from the 1920s. The company, however, reached its peak in the 1950s and 60s, becoming one of the top retail packaging companies. After consulting with the...
1913 George V Gold Sovereign

It's fascinating what one can discover in old boxes. This particular coin was found in a box of old photographs, and it now belongs to me. As the title suggests, it's a George V gold sovereign from 1913. In my assessment, it is in Extremely Fine (E.F.) condition, though some might consider it slightly higher. Feel free to share your thoughts if you disagree with my evaluation. Upon examining th...
