Caterpillar D-7 pushing dirt
This caterpillar D-7 was bought brand new in 1953 I believe by my great uncle who owned Felix and Ferrick's construction. they did big construction work consisting of building highways and major buildings back in the 50s and 60s they had two caterpillar D-7s and two Bucyrus Erie 15b power shovels the equipment is still in use today not every day for a business because the business went out of business sometime in the 70s I believe but it still gets used at antique steam and tractor shows when the business went out of business they had a big sale and sold all of the equipment so it left our family for a long time but through the Pioneer Steam and Gas Engine Society of northwestern Pennsylvania. we met the guy who bought them and come to find out he's actually an extremely close family friend of ours and we got to see the original equipment and we actually convinced him to get it running again because it had been 10 to 12 years since the last time it had been used. in this video that was the first time we'd gotten it running in 12 years for that one and I have another video of when we got the 15b with the backhoe attachment going on it and it had been somewhere in the neighborhood of 12 to 15 years.

    I realize this an old post but, there is a special procedure oil the engine cooling fan hub, unless it has been converted to a sealed bearing, (it won't have the screw on the hub".

  • @douglasstyers712
    @douglasstyers712 Před 10 měsíci

    That is not the way to grease the bearings on the Cub or any other ones. There is a washer in there that will prevent any grease fro coming in there from the hub cap. They have to be removed from the tractor inner and outer and repacked by hand to fill them with new grease. Doing as you indicate if it would work would be pushing grease past the felt seal on inside bearing at spindle and there by ruining it. That is its function to keep dust dirt and water out, you have just provided a path for all that to enter into the spindle area and bearings.. WRONG-WRONG! CHECK the Servicing Manual and learn how correctly !!!!!!Bad advice here.

    If you have a magneto you have to oil it. Those old girls have more places to oil and grease. Oh yeah don't forget the fan bearings and the distributor and distributor drive.

  • @dougstyers2245
    @dougstyers2245 Před rokem

    Totally wrong in greasing the front wheel bearings. Look at the IHC Farmall Service Manual. You take off the entire wheel assy. and regress inner and outer bearings and check for were on the race. etc. I don't know who told you this or how you arrived at this but it is entirely WRONG !!!!!!

    • @douglasstyers712
      @douglasstyers712 Před rokem

      Greasing bearings this way is not only inadequate, but you are forcing grit dirt etc,, around all the bearing and races this way u r using but when as you say it squishes out the back. Yeah then you have just destroyed the Felt seal at the rear of wheel. Then grit water etc, so it can enter in there and grease will be continually running out of it there lessening the required amount of grease required in the area of bearing, the race and spindle.

    • @douglasstyers712
      @douglasstyers712 Před 11 měsíci

      Grease can not do anything here as it has a big washer behind castle nut that prevents any grease from entering the entire spindle from front and rear.....

    Trash in the carburetor or in the tank blocking the outlet. Years ago I had a cigarette pack plastic wrapper in the tank of my JD 70, gave me fits. Toss into the carb several times and pulled the tank off twice before I figured it out.

    Did you grease the distributor and distributor drive housing. There is a slotted plug in the distributor shaft housing you remove and screw in a grease fitting give about a 1/2 pump until grease comes out the small hole on the back side of the housing, replace the plug. Do the same on the distributor drive housing but give it 3 pumps and it doesn't have a hole to come out of. This is important because these spots don't get engine oil like most engines. All the old farmalls are this way.

    Great little cub, nice to see original paint, those hydraulics work flawless. My dad had one on our farm , it had 42 belly mower 2 bush hog style swinging blades it would cut down small trees, he made custom cultivator to do point rows for corn and soybeans fields .out of school got job at IH dealership on the cub there is no throw out bearing for clutch fingers but it is a material like graphite that pushes on clutch fingers, that one guy mentioned force your self out of that habit of touching clutch or brake pedals young man 👨 lol I’ve had 3 cubs over the years one of them had no hyd lift. I'll cutting both the lawn but also taller grass and soemtimes possible brush not real big just over growth. Which one would you think would be better. Everyone I talk to have a rotary mower and never ran a flail and say the rotary even though they never ran a flail. So sense you got a flail I want your opinion on it and how it runs. Thanks love the videos.
