      Or in the case of a fair few b9tl's stand on foot brake, engage reverse, nothing, jump up and down footbrake, nothing, get an elephant to sit on footbrake, and we have reverse! It did always seem a bit odd, if the vehicle is moving the ecu won't select reverse anyway so it's not even a useful fail safe in that respect!

    Sometimes I think the amount of work needing done is what can deter you from finishing a project... It's not even that the skill are lacking or that, but it's just overwhelming? @willwelch5700 buses used to be quite enjoyable to do, but I've definitely lost the love these days. Although bigger, generally they're easier to work on than cars, access is usually pretty good. The ambulance was next in line after the bus, and I guess it still is. It needs everything doing, but I do want to get it done at some point, it's a delightful, characterful, little thing. Again, much smaller than the bus, but needs more things doing..

    Well done Chris - and so it REALLY begins. This one thinks from what you've said and shown that 'Rustival 3' March next year (if that is when it is being held) is a reasonable aim for, TBH. Plan, preparation and getting all bits and pieces is the more time consuming, as there's always delays and let-downs out of your control - putting together is the less difficult part. A lot of work. When you Jack the back end. Is there a dent in the roof (fold) you have to take the tension out the roof. Jack it and weld it best you can then remove from chassis. Chassis probably tweaked. Think I’d get the girlfriend to sew up some lambs skin seat covers. I believe a interior for that car would cost 15.000 pounds. My 51 Pontiac in cloth in 1987 cost 4.000 pounds. Guess I’m a old patina guy. 😂 if you layer 50 mm masking tape over the shaped area you want to replace . It will form the shape. Peel off slowly take to a panel beater and he can make that section for you. Stretch and shape and English wheel it. It will be 90 percent good to fit. Drop off the wing. He cut out the bad and re weld. You need to strip the paint off. He can see what he looking at and save Labour. Same with doors.

    • @adventuresinrust1644

      There's many dents in the roof from the tree landing on it. Everything is dented.. Everywhere.. Chassis seems square so far, although I've not actually stuck the lasers on it yet, but I think it's OK. Not sure my girlfriend would want to make the interior frankly, it's not just the covering, the frames all need overhauling too, and the door cards, carpets, headlining.. Although I think I've found a dude that gets what I want to achieve with it so that might be fine. Yes, it'll cost more than the car is worth, but it should be leather, so it will be leather. I'm still hoping to find a wing in better condition, but if I can't I'll have a go myself, where's the fun in paying someone else to ruin it when I can do that myself! I liked the patina the car had some years ago, but it's way beyond patina now, it's a rusty shed, scruffy I'm fine with, rust I am not..

    What a wonderful educational video. For the time the controller was years ahead of its time really. I assume the same unit is used in a national 2. Years ago listening to rapid sliding gear changes from a N2 I wondered if a mechanic had maladjusted the controller to get faster gear changes. Looking at the circuit board I can now imagine it was more likely to be a dried out capacitor. Around bath and Bristol National 1’s were all converted to auto’s with the addition of a controller, drivers side, bay before the step above the window. These retrofit units were far less complex and didn’t feature throttle dip or pauses and must have destroyed many gear linings. They were all eventually disconnected. I note you have BH700 in the yard which will have this unit. Has anyone ever investigated the controller in there I wonder. Fascinated me for years now.

A brilliant purchase, once it is gone, it is gone, even if you don't need the parts, you can sell them on to others, if you need to get the clutch reconditioned on an exchange basis, you have the trade-in, all good stuff, shame you had to waste the rear brake drum, hopefully, the others can be saved. That Sheerline front and backend were definitely worthwhile even if you only got the gearset and diff out of them (i'd be inclined to keep the engine, gearbox casing and axle casing as well for the just in case of a major blow up at least you'd have something to work with), you mentioned in the previous video that the back axle was a salisbury axle and very low geared, I was thinking of what vehicles had salisbury axles and didn't some Landrovers, Rang rovers and Transits have them axles as a optional extra and although the axle assembly looked different the actual diff casing and the gears are the same (with different ratios) with just different axle tubes and hub ends for their particular application.

    • @adventuresinrust1644
      @adventuresinrust1644 Před 25 dny

      Absolutely, it was a great buy! If I had infinite space I would keep it all, but space is limited, largely because I keep old junk! That's interesting, thanks. Hadn't actually given any thought to the axle being used in other vehicles, but I'll certainly look into it, if I can find a taller geared diff that will bolt straight in I'd definitely get one, the engine is so torquey it could easily cope with higher gearing, and make it a more relaxed cruiser. I'm certainly going to strip the engine and see just how bad it is, but given it was full to the rockers with water I suspect it's mostly scrap but I'll find out this week if I get chance
