I knew Gigi would deliver and my god, did she ever. By far one of the creepiest renditions of Scylla I've seen. I love how it almost looks like she's having fun with it too, with a couple of the poses she strikes while singing. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend checking out BrittPowwPixel's Scylla animatic. Her and Gigi's are my absolute favorites.

I'm still waiting to find a Different Beasts animatic that picked up on this; I noticed that, when they were being clever and captured all the sirens, the crew were including themselves in the "We are a different beast now" But when Odysseus says to cut their tails off and throw them overboard, the crew say "He is a different beast now" as if they are separating themselves from that, as if they are hesitating. ...Then Odysseus starts shouting "Kill them all! KILL THEM ALL.. KILL THEM ALL!!!" as if he has to push them to follow his order

Also, Scylla’s heads are Moray eels. Real creatures

Eury ends up dropping the torch in a previous frame where he pushes another guy out of the way.

Thnx for helping us notice that those monsters on Scylla are from the little mermaid and this is a question for anyone who knows Greek mythology am I reaching by saying that the name in the little mermaid villain is Urscylla ( make me think if she is the daughter of Scylla ? )

Personally i love the pausing to share thoughts, id rather see thoughts real time vs reactors who watch the whole vid in one go just to recap it at the end

It’s really subtle but we can see Eurylochus drop his torch, run, and then the big guy picked it up which made him the last to get eaten. Great reaction!

IMO, Ody definitely gave Eurylochus a torch and wanted him to die to Scylla. Not just because of the wind bag but also because he knew if anyone could pull off a successful mutiny against him, it'd be him

3:01 Jorge actually said that in suffereing and different beast that he wanted to potray Odysseus' personality more! Ody is very charasmatic and he's a trickster (and liar) by heart. I think a good potrayal of his personality is in the movie Troy (2004). The movie itself people don't think is the best potrayal of the Illiad, especially because of Achilles and Patrocalus' relationship (they are lovers not cousins hollywood) but Ody I think was well done. Infact one of his lines says a lot about him, "you have your swords, I have my tricks, we play with the toys the gods give us". (ps. the title says different beast & suffering reaction, not different beast & scylla) :]

That first animatic does such a good job of showing how ruthless and almost cruel Ody is now. I was lowkey uncomfortable with how he grabbed the siren’s mouth but it shows how he’s gotten to the point of “playing with his food” like some of his enemies did to him. Seeing the sirens chopped in half was a LOT😟

Just in case your curious, but the way to pronounce Charybdis, or at least the most commonly used pronounciation, is "kuh-rib-diss".

So to explain, Hadestown, is telling the tale as if it's taking place during the Great Depression era and the city of New Orleans. And Orpheus had a way with nature, his music literally bent nature to his will. So that's why he's saying the river, trees, and birds will give them what they need. He's been singing to them and they tend to do what he wants. Even the ground will listen to him. He was able to make flowers bloom with just the amount of the song he shared with Eurydice. In actual myth she was a wood nymph (female nature spirit). This is supposed to be why she wants Spring and Fall to return in the tale. The summer and winter are too harsh for her to live in.

Honestly, the first time I heard Orpheus’s “La la la,” I laughed a little, too. It was too abrupt and felt so different from the sounds we heard until now. The thing is I get it now. Orpheus is different; the words he says to Eurydice are just as abrupt and untethered as the sound of his song at first. It’s because he’s alone there, at least at first. He carries others with him-Eurydice, nature itself-and when he’s not alone, it doesn’t sound out of place anymore. He invites the world to embrace his vision instead of adapting his vision to fit the existing world.

This is my favorite musical, and I am so excited at the idea of you listening all the way through! The animatics I've seen are very good, and can sometimes help to give an idea of things going on that aren't necessarily apparent in the music (like Orpheus's unfinished la-la-la song making a flower come to life and bloom in the Wedding Song, which is what so impressed Eurydice).

What you gotta remember is that Orpheus's songs work literal magic. When he says "it'll bring Spring back" he's being completely literal. Just the unfinished version caused flowers to bloom and all of nature around them to join in on the chorus.

If you need animatics for this series, i made a playlist for reactions, since most HT animatics aren't finished or simply don't exist

After Hadestown I would recommend Come From Away. It is one of my favorites and needs more love.

Dude yes, when I first went to see Hadestown an Orpheus sang the song I also thought of Mafuyu 🤣🤣🤣

The vocals and the animatic are awesome, and every time Zeus is on screen it's just "would, would, would, would, would"

"He's such a little golden retriever" is perfect for Orpheus I hope that you have a chance at some point to see the video of Reeve Carney waving hello at his character's introduction and singing these early songs to Eva Noblezada as Eurydice, and then you will understand the depth of its perfection XD

He doesn’t get his talent from Hermes, he’s the son of muse who are goddesses of art and music, and his singing is magical
