For all those who are making the pertinent argument that Sunday school can in fact be done well, you're right, but there is another factor. In passing off catechesis to another, people are given an excuse to not have it in the home if the children are already getting it and Sunday school (if they actually are!). And unfortunately, this is how far too many have been operating in the Lutheran Church Missouri synod. Good on the faithful who catechize in the home, but you know as well as I do that this is not as common as it ought to be, and that in the minds of many, they think they're doing right by their children by simply sending them to Sunday school and considering that alone good enough. The question then becomes, what is good practice here to create catechesis in the home? If only I had the answer.

Pr. Fisk, what about us ladies? I try to read and pray the psalm daily. Is there a place like this for us?

Like Sunday School (Bible study) for adults, Sunday School is a good addition to a child's discipleship. God has called me to speak to children in unique and creative ways, and His work through me is only an addition to what should be going on at home and in divine service.

16:00- Bless you for pointing this out! I actually complained to CPH about this. The dumb response I got was that there "wasn't enough room" to add the full psalter to the LSB. Like.. it's a book, you can make it as big as you want/need! Sadly, even the TLH is missing many psalms (but different ones). I have looked at other hymnals by other "Lutheran" publishers, and they are missing psalms too. Like, what gives? The supposed all-in-one prayer book is missing 1/3 of the prayers directly gifted to us by God. I feel so cheated.

I remember hearing in evangelicalism about "surrendering to Jesus" by walking to the altar or raising my hand, and being given the impression that everything would be honkey-dorey as soon as I walked out of the church, only to find that the Old Adam in me was still kicking and screaming to get his way. I think it was John Calvin who, for all his other theological problems, wisely said "Repentance is what happens when the soul attempts obedience, and finds out how hard it is."

"Wisdom is not rocket science..." VERY WELL SAID! I live in a town full of rocket scientists, very knowledgeable about a certain subject they studied but wisdom is rare. Hopefully, prayerfully wisdom will come to them AND me through Christ. The wisdom He has given me so far is slightly painful, but this pain I know is growth. This is kind of a caricature of how law and gospel is used. The reason for the dinstinction is because Rome lost the distinction. Its not aomething you over lay on the text? Its to not get confused about who is doing what in the Bible

Good lutherans dont follow Luther. They just recognized he was a good theologian who was needed at the time, along with all the other reformers who cleaned up and clarified his work

5:55 mark...or maybe a grumbling spirit, which I struggle with Reverend. Thank you for your CZcams Channel/Podcast. Faith comes by hearing, and even though you guys have beautiful faces, all a person really needs is the spoken word, which you provide. I sometimes wander how many people heard and received Jesus' message during his ministry, but yet never actually saw him. Picture them, with poor eyesight, on a hillside where a natural amphitheater exists, hearing Jesus' words, repenting and rejoicing, getting baptized and believing to the end, but never actually SEEING Jesus in the body. It's just my conjecture, but I think it's a helpful way to remind us that we don't need to see the person face to face or on a blue screen to repent and believe. God bless you and your family. Neil
